  • Jack Ahcan D | COL

Avalanche's Jack Ahcan: Secures one-year deal

Ahcan signed a one-year contract with Colorado on Tuesday.

Ahcan logged just two games for the Avs last year in which he recorded one shot, two PIM and three hits while averaging 15:48 of ice time. The 28-year-old defenseman will likely serve primarily with AHL Colorado but could get called up periodically if there are injury concerns on the Avalanche's blue line.

  • Noah Juulsen D | PHI

Flyers' Noah Juulsen: Snags one-year deal

Juulsen (groin) inked a one-year, $900,000 contract with Philadelphia on Tuesday, Rick Dhaliwal of CHEK reports.

Juulsen will have to prove he can stay healthy after being limited to just 35 games for the Canucks last season. It was a rough year for the 28-year-old blueliner, as he failed to register a point in those appearances despite logging 16:17 of ice time per game. With the Flyers, Juulsen figures to compete with Egor Zamula for a third-pairing role.

  • John Ludvig D | COL

John Ludvig: Becomes unrestricted free agent

Ludvig was not given a qualifying offer by Colorado and will be an unrestricted free agent Tuesday, Brennan Vogt of Hockey Mountain High reports.

Ludvig was claimed off waivers by the Avs back in October, appearing in just eight NHL games for the club. In those outings, the 24-year-old blueliner generated two assists, nine shots and 16 hits. It's possible the Penguins circle back on Ludvig after having lost him before the start of 2024-25, especially given the team's preference for younger players right now.

  • Ryan Johnson D | BUF

Sabres' Ryan Johnson: Staying with Buffalo

Johnson signed a three-year, $2.325 million contract with the Sabres on Tuesday.

The first year of Johnson's new deal is two-way, while the last two years are one-way, so that suggests the defenseman will see most of his playing time with AHL Rochester in 2025-26. The 23-year-old had two goals, 13 points and a plus-13 rating over 66 regular-season games with the Americans last season.

  • Blues' Logan Mailloux: No longer with Montreal

The Blues traded for Mailloux from the Canadiens on Tuesday in exchange for Zachary Bolduc.

Mailloux has one year remaining on his contract before he becomes a restricted free agent in 2026-27. The right-shot blueliner provided two goals and four points in just seven regular-season games with Montreal in 2024-25, and he'll look to earn a full-time role in the bottom four with St. Louis this coming season.

  • Joel Hanley D | CGY

Flames' Joel Hanley: Signs two-year deal

Hanley put pen to paper on a two-year, $3.5 million contract with Calgary on Tuesday.

Hanley isn't exactly an offensive dynamo, considering he managed just two goals and seven helpers in 53 regular-season appearances last year. Still, the veteran blueliner should fill a bottom-pairing role as a shutdown defenseman. Hanley doesn't offer enough in terms of PIM or hits to give him much in the way of fantasy value outside the deepest of formats.

  • Islanders' Tony DeAngelo: Staying on Long Island

DeAngelo penned a one-year contract with the Islanders on Tuesday.

DeAngelo returned from his exile in Europe back in January, signing a one-year deal with New York. It seems the blueliner showed enough to keep him around for another year. He notched four goals and 15 helpers in 35 regular-season contests this past year and could push for the 40-point threshold with a full season.

  • Capitals' Martin Fehervary: Secures long-term extension

Fehervary (knee) agreed to terms on a seven-year, $42 million contract extension with Washington on Tuesday, per PuckPedia.

Fehervary will now be tied to the Caps through the 2032-33 campaign, when he will be 33 years old. While the cap hit might be a little high in the first year or two of the deal -- last season was the first time he reached the 20-point threshold -- it should age well, as the salary cap is expected to continue to grow in future seasons. Fehervary's lack of power-play ice time limits him from being a top-end fantasy target, except perhaps in banger leagues that utilize hits and blocks.

  • Golden Knights' Alex Pietrangelo: Playing future up in the air

Pietrangelo will be stepping away from the game of hockey indefinitely to recover from serious hip injuries, the team announced Monday.

Pietrangelo has enjoyed a wonderful career up to this point, playing over 1,000 games in the NHL and winning two Stanley Cup championships, but his future is very much up in the air after the news of his injuries. At minimum, he'll likely miss the entirety of the 2025-26 season, but it remains to be seen if he'll be able to return at all moving forward. If this is it for the 35-year-old, he'll finish his career with 148 goals and 489 assists with a plus-123 rating in 1,087 career regular-season games, and he added 80 points in 149 playoff contests. He currently has two years remaining on his contract that carries an $8.8 million cap hit per season.

  • Maple Leafs' Mikko Kokkonen: Not tendered QO

Kokkonen was not tendered a qualifying offer by the Maple Leafs on Monday and will become an unrestricted free agent, Luke Fox of Sportsnet reports.

Kokkonen played 50 games with AHL Toronto, picking up 14 points (three goals and 11 assists). The 24-year-old has spent most of his three-year pro career with the Leafs' AHL affiliate, but he will now be looking for a new home for the first time, likely as a minor-league depth addition in a different organization.
