Penguins' Bryan Rust: Ruled out Saturday

Rust (lower body) will be unavailable Saturday versus Washington.

Rust has tied his career best in points with 65, a record he set last season. He has been a force on the power play with eight goals and 16 helpers. Rust could return as early as Sunday in Washington, though Tuesday in St. Louis could be a better spot, if he is able to play before the start of the playoffs.

  • Ilya Sorokin G | NYI

Islanders' Ilya Sorokin: In goal Saturday

Sorokin will protect the home net against Ottawa on Saturday, Andrew Gross of Newsday reports.

Sorokin is coming off a 13-save effort in Thursday's 5-3 win over Toronto. He has a 29-22-2 record this campaign with seven shutouts, a 2.66 GAA and a .908 save percentage through 53 appearances. Ottawa sits eighth in the league this season with 3.37 goals per game.

  • Joona Koppanen LW | PIT

Penguins' Joona Koppanen: Recalled from AHL

Koppanen was summoned from AHL Wilkes-Barre/Scranton on Saturday.

The Penguins are not playing Sidney Crosby (lower body), Evgeni Malkin (upper body), Bryan Rust (lower body) and Ben Kindel (upper body) on Saturday, necessitating the recall of Koppanen and others. Koppanen has one assist in 10 NHL games this season.

  • Penguins' Evgeni Malkin: Out of action Saturday

Malkin (upper body) won't play versus Washington on Saturday.

Malkin is having a stellar season with 19 goals and 61 points across 55 games, the first regular season since 2022-23 that he has averaged better than a point a game. Malkin could return as early as Sunday in Washington, but the Penguins could hold him out until the start of the playoffs, which begin April 18.

  • Penguins' Ben Kindel: Unavailable Saturday

Kindel (upper body) will not be in the lineup versus Washington on Saturday.

Kindel is without a point in his last five games. The 18-year-old rookie has 17 goals and 17 assists in 76 games this season, after he was selected 11th overall in the 2025 Draft. Kindel could return as early as Sunday in a rematch in Washington.

  • Penguins' Sidney Crosby: Not playing Saturday

Crosby (lower body) will not dress Saturday versus Washington.

The Penguins are in the postseason, and there is no reason to play Crosby in their final regular-season home game, as he is not 100 percent. The 38-year-old superstar has 29 goals and 45 assists over 67 games this season.

  • Lightning's Brandon Hagel: Good to go Saturday

Hagel (lower body) will play against Boston on Saturday, Eduardo A. Encina of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Following a five-game absence, Hagel will return to a top-six role against the Bruins on Saturday. He should log time on the power play in the contest. Hagel has racked up 35 goals, 73 points and 205 shots on net across 69 appearances this season.

  • Lightning's Zemgus Girgensons: Not available Saturday

Girgensons (undisclosed) has been ruled out of Saturday's tilt in Boston, Benjamin Pierce of the Lightning's official site reports.

Girgensons has nine goals, nine assists and 192 hits across 72 NHL games this season. He has gone without a point in his last four games. Girgensons could return to the lineup as early as Monday against Detroit.
