Six teams are in trade discussions to acquire Padres third baseman Chase Headley, tweeted ESPN's Jim Bowden.
- The Dodgers, Phillies, Mariners, Angels, Orioles, and Braves are thought to have interest in Headley, who is hitting .266/.364/.423 in 90 games, with 10 home runs and 45 RBI.
- Headley is arbitration eligible at the end of the season (for the second time), and is making $3.475 million in 2012.
- Headley won't hit free agency until after the 2014 season, meaning any team that acquires him will have him for at least two years.
- The Headley trade discussions are heating up because the Brewers probably won't deal their third baseman, Aramis Ramirez, tweeted ESPN's Jayson Stark, and the rest of the market at the hot corner is weak.
- Headley has hit third in the Padres lineup for most of the season, and has an OPS of .801 so far in July.
