Scott Podsednik is headed back to the Red Sox. The Red Sox have signed the 36-year-old outfielder to a big-league deal, Ken Rosenthal of FoxSports.com reports.

The Boston Globe's Nick Cafardo adds the team will send Ryan Kalish to Triple-A to make room for Podsednik.

The Red Sox traded Podsednik and right-hander Matt Albers to Arizona for Craig Breslow. Two days later the Diamondbacks released him. The Red Sox initially bought him from the Phillies in May. Podsednik played in 19 games for the Red Sox, hitting .387/.409/.484 with a home run in 70 plate appearances. He also played 25 games for Pawtucket and 23 for the Phillies' Triple-A team at Lehigh Valley. In 48 games in the minors, he hit .242/.308/.291.

In parts of 11 seasons for the Mariners, Brewers, White Sox, Rockies, Royals, Dodgers and Red Sox, Podsednik hit .281/.341/.383. He led the National League with 70 stolen bases for the Brewers in 2004.
