In his latest article at FoxSports.com, Ken Rosenthal outlines which teams will buy or sell at the deadline.
- Cole Hamels, Shane Victorino, Juan Pierre and Joe Blanton could all be moved by the Phillies in the next few weeks. Rosenthal predicts the team will sign Hamels, keep Pence and deal everyone else.
- Carlos Lee, Anibal Sanchez and Omar Infante could be interesting trade chips, but Rosenthal expects the Marlins to be buyers at the deadline. They won't make any major moves, however.
- The Mets don't want to give up Zack Wheeler or Matt Harvey in trades. They will likely make small improvements. The team has already inquired about catcher Ramon Hernandez, and could also add a reliever.
- The Brewers should be sellers. Zack Greinke is their best trade chip.
- The Diamondbacks don't believe Justin Upton is a "winning player," which is why they are considering dealing him. Rosenthal predicts Upton will get moved for a young infield prospect and some major league talent.
- Rosenthal expects the Red Sox to be careful at the deadline. The team will be buyers, but they are already over the luxury tax.
- James Shields, B.J. Upton and Fernando Rodney could be moved at the deadline if the Rays are willing to sell. Unless Evan Longoria makes a quick recovery, Rosenthal thinks they should be sellers.
- The Blue Jays will be buyers, but only if GM Alex Anthopoulos can find a player who is under team control for multiple seasons. Matt Garza could be a target.
- The Athletics probably won't buy, but Rosenthal doesn't think they'll sell off all their pieces, either.
