  • Braves' Jesse Chavez: Secures second win

Chavez (2-2) picked up the win Tuesday, allowing one hit over three scoreless innings of relief in a 12-0 victory over the Nationals. He struck out three without walking a batter. The 41-year-old righty took the mound to begin the second inning after Reynaldo Lopez (shoulder) was removed from the game. Chavez has been erratic in the second half, posting a 5.28 ERA, 1.50 WHIP and 14:5 K:BB through 15.1 innings since the beginning of August, and Chavez's low-leverage, middle-relief role gives him minimal fantasy upside. Should Lopez miss any starts to close out the regular season, Chavez isn't likely to be considered as a rotation replacement, other than as part of a bullpen day.

  • Braves' Jesse Chavez: Serves up game-winning homer

Chavez (1-2) took the loss and was charged with his first blown save of the season Monday against Milwaukee, giving up three runs on two hits and a walk over one inning of relief. He failed to strike out a batter. The 40-year-old righty entered the game in the sixth inning with Atlanta ahead 2-1, but a Willy Adames three-run homer put the Brewers in the lead for good. Chavez has served up eight long balls in 46.1 innings this season, but he's still managed to post a sharp 2.33 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and 39:14 K:BB in a lower-leverage role.

  • Braves' Jesse Chavez: Thriving in low-leverage role

Chavez has a 1.21 ERA, 1.08 WHIP and 24:10 K:BB through 29.2 innings over 23 appearances this season. The 40-year-old right-hander is on his fourth stint with Atlanta during his 17-year career, and Chavez is once again proving to be a valuable piece of the team's bullpen. His low-leverage role limits his fantasy value -- he has zero saves or holds, and his only win came back on March 30 -- but he's worked more than an inning in four of his last seven appearances, helping to keep the team's higher-leverage options fresh.

  • Braves' Jesse Chavez: Officially added to roster

Atlanta selected Chavez's contract from Triple-A Gwinnett on Thursday, Justin Toscano of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports. Chavez was inked to a minor-league deal earlier this week with the expectation that he would eventually be added to the big-league roster. The veteran reliever should operate in a long relief role with Atlanta.

  • Braves' Jesse Chavez: Joins Atlanta on minor-league deal

Chavez signed a minor-league contract with Atlanta on Monday that includes an invitation to spring training. An erroneous report had Chavez to the Twins on a big-league deal after his release by the White Sox over the weekend, but he will end up back with Atlanta instead. The veteran has enjoyed a great deal of success with the team two of the past three seasons, though he missed most of the second half last year with a shin injury and was left off the NLDS roster. Chavez could replace Jackson Stephens as the long-relief option in the Atlanta bullpen.

  • Twins' Jesse Chavez: Gets chance with Twins

Chavez agreed Sunday with the Twins on a one-year, major-league deal, John Bonnes of TwinsDaily.com reports. The contract may not be finalized until shortly before Opening Day, but after being released by the White Sox earlier in the weekend, Chavez will end up sticking in the American League Central and will leave spring training as a member of Minnesota's bullpen. The 40-year-old right-hander boasts 607 games of big-league experience and profiles as a low- or medium-leverage arm at this stage of his career, but his presence in the bullpen in the early part of the season will give Minnesota some added depth while it awaits the returns of several relievers from the injured list.

  • Jesse Chavez: Let go by White Sox

The White Sox released Chavez on Saturday, Bob Nightengale of USA Today reports. The White Sox signed Chavez to a minor-league contract Feb. 8 and invited the right-hander to compete for a bullpen spot in spring training. The 31-year-old struggled over his seven innings pitched as he allowed nine runs on 12 hits and two walks while striking out eight. Chavez will weigh his options in free agency.

  • White Sox's Jesse Chavez: Invited to White Sox's camp

Chavez signed a minor-league contract with the White Sox on Thursday and received an invitation to major-league spring training, Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports. The 40-year-old Chavez defied Father Time last season in Atlanta, posting a 1.56 ERA and 1.10 WHIP while striking out 39 batters over 34.2 innings. However, a microfracture in his left shin forced him to miss three months of the regular season. Because of his age and injury history, the White Sox will play it safe by giving Chavez a minor-league deal, but the right-hander should easily secure a spot in Chicago's weak bullpen if his performance in the spring resembles anything close to last season.

  • Braves' Jesse Chavez: Activated from 60-day IL

Atlanta activated Chavez (shin) from the 60-day injured list Tuesday. Chavez has finally been cleared to return to major-league action following a three-month absence to heal a microfracture in his left shin. The veteran reliever was sporting a 1.55 ERA and 36:9 K:BB through 29 innings prior to the injury and tallied six strikeouts over 3.1 scoreless frames during a three-appearance rehab stint with Triple-A Gwinnett.

  • Braves' Jesse Chavez: Cleared for rehab assignment

Chavez (shin) is set to begin a rehab assignment Tuesday with Triple-A Gwinnett. Chavez has been on the shelf since mid-June due to a microfracture in his left shin, but he's thrown several rounds of live batting practice without issue and will now return to live appearances on the farm. The veteran reliever could be an option again for Atlanta's bullpen within the next week if all goes well during his minor-league rehab stint.

  • Braves' Jesse Chavez: Faces hitters again Friday

Chavez (shin) threw another round of live batting practice Friday, David O'Brien of The Athletic reports. That could be the final step before he is cleared to begin a minor-league rehab assignment. Chavez has been out since mid-June because of a microfracture in his left shin, but he looks poised to return to Atlanta's bullpen for the closing weeks of the regular season. He'd registered a 1.55 ERA and 36:9 K:BB in 29 innings prior to the lengthy IL stint.

  • Braves' Jesse Chavez: Facing hitters again

Chavez (shin) said Monday that he threw a live batting practice session without any discomfort, Justin Toscano of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports. The 40-year-old right-hander has been on the shelf since mid-June with what was initially diagnosed as a left shin contusion, but after he underwent an MRI once the swelling on his leg subsided, he was revealed to have suffered a microfracture. The updated diagnosis explains why Chavez has been on the mend for nearly two months, but he appears to be nearly healed up from the microfracture. Chavez said he'll first need to prove that he can run at full speed and field his position without issue before getting the green light to head out on a rehab assignment, possibly within the next week or two.

  • Braves' Jesse Chavez: Weeks away from return

Atlanta manager Brian Snitker said Saturday that Chavez (shin) is still walking with a slight limp, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports. Chavez had been gearing up to begin throwing off a mound at last check, but Snitker noted Saturday that the veteran reliever is still probably "weeks away" from returning to full strength. He's been on the shelf since mid-June due to a severe left shin contusion.

  • Braves' Jesse Chavez: Eyeing bullpen session

Chavez (shin) said Friday that he hopes to throw a bullpen session next week, David O'Brien of The Athletic reports. Chavez's time on the shelf will extend beyond a month, but if he stays on schedule from here, he could return to the Atlanta bullpen in about two weeks. The veteran right-hander was pitching brilliantly before suffering a shin contusion on a comebacker (1.55 ERA, 1.03 WHIP). Chavez will pitch important innings for the team down the stretch, but there probably won't be many leftover saves available behind the likes of Raisel Iglesias, Kirby Yates and A.J. Minter (shoulder).

  • Braves' Jesse Chavez: Throwing long-toss

Chavez (shin) threw long toss in the outfield Friday, Justin Toscano of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports. Chavez was shut down for a period after landing on the injured list June 15 due to a left shin contusion, but he's begun to ramp things up and could make it back to Atlanta's bullpen before the All-Star break. The veteran reliever had pitched to a terrific 1.55 ERA and 36:9 K:BB in 29 innings prior to the IL stint.

  • Braves' Jesse Chavez: Won't come off IL when eligible

Chavez (shin) is making progress, but he won't be ready to come off the injured list when first eligible, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports. Chavez would be eligible to come off the injured list this weekend against the Marlins, but the right-hander won't be ready to do so. It's likely Chavez will need a rehab assignment because of his relatively lengthy absence, and he likely won't be back in the Atlanta bullpen until around the All-Star break, at the very earliest.

  • Braves' Jesse Chavez: Placed on 15-day IL

Atlanta placed Chavez on the 15-day injured list Thursday with a left shin contusion. X-rays turned up clean for any structural damage after Chavez got struck by a hard-hit comebacker during a relief appearance Wednesday versus the Tigers, but he woke up Thursday in considerable discomfort and will be rested until at least the final day of June. The veteran reliever leaves behind a sharp 1.55 ERA and 36:9 K:BB through 29 innings.

  • Braves' Jesse Chavez: Significant leg soreness

Chavez woke up Thursday with a "very sore" left leg, David O'Brien of The Athletic reports. Chavez took a 99-mph one-hop comebacker off his shin while making a relief appearance Wednesday afternoon against the Tigers. X-rays came back negative, but he'll likely be unavailable for a portion of Atlanta's four-game series against the Rockies, which gets underway Thursday night at Truist Park. There's a possibility that he could be placed on the injured list.

  • Braves' Jesse Chavez: Results come back negative

Additional tests on Chavez's left leg came back negative Wednesday, Justin Toscano of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports. Chavez was removed from Wednesday's game after getting hit by a comebacker, but all tests have confirmed that no significant damage was done. More information regarding a return for Chavez will likely come Thursday, but the veteran reliever is officially listed as day-to-day.

  • Braves' Jesse Chavez: Avoids leg fracture

Chavez avoided structural damage to his left leg Wednesday after X-rays on his shin bone returned negative, but he's scheduled to undergoing further testing, Justin Toscano of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports. Chavez threw just four pitches in his relief appearance Wednesday in Atlanta's 10-7 win in Game 1 of a doubleheader with the Tigers before exiting after being struck by a comebacker. He was unable to walk off the field under his own power, but the fact that he at least avoided a fracture can be taken as a positive development at this stage. Atlanta should have a better idea on whether Chavez will require at trip to the injured list based on what the upcoming tests reveal.
