The Twins plucked De Aza from the independent-ball ranks in mid-July and assigned him to Rochester, where he slashed .333/.410/.588 across 102 at-bats before being shut down with the injury. Though a bruised hand doesn't sound like an especially severe injury, it may end any chance the 35-year-old had of receiving a September callup.

De Aza signed a minor-league contract with the Nationals on Friday, Mark Zuckerman of MASN Sports reports.
Zuckerman went out of his way to note that this deal does not officially include an invite to big-league camp, although he will be on the bench for Friday's game. De Aza spent all of 2017 in the Nationals' organization, getting 70 plate appearances in the majors (29 wRC+) and 212 plate appearances at Triple-A (119 wRC+). He will serve as organizational depth and is unlikely to gain fantasy relevance.

The 33-year-old left the Athletics at the end of spring training after not breaking camp with the big-league club, but he'll get a new opportunity in the Nationals' organization. He had a down year with the Mets last season, as he batted just .205 in 234 at-bats, but he can play all three outfield spots and could receive a callup to the big leagues if the Nationals' outfield gets even more depleted.
