  • Nick Noonan: Released by A's

  • Athletics' Nick Noonan: Assigned to minor-league camp

Noonan was reassigned to minor-league camp Sunday, John Shea of the San Francisco Chroniclereports. Noonan appeared in 10 games this spring, recording two hits and two RBI in 15 at-bats. His .133 batting average wasn't enough to keep him with the major-league camp for long, so he'll be sent to the minor-league fields. Noonan is expected to start the season with Triple-A Nashville.

  • Athletics' Nick Noonan: Will attend Athletics camp

Noonan will attend the Athletics' spring training as a non-roster invitee, Jane Lee of MLB.com reports. Noonan has seen time with five different organizations over the past three seasons, most recently with Triple-A Colorado Springs within the Brewers' farm league. The 28-year-old has appeared in just 83 big-league games during his 11-year professional career and offers very little value at the plate. He'll look to crack the Athletics' Opening Day roster as a reserve utility infielder but will most likely open the 2018 campaign in the minors.

  • Marlins' Nick Noonan: Traded to Marlins

Noonan was traded to the Marlins on Thursday in exchange for cash considerations, Joe Frisaro of MLB.com reports. Miami's infield has been gutted by injuries, so they needed to add some warm bodies to the New Orleans roster to replace all the players recently called up to the majors. Noonan was hitting just .212/.235/.333 in 10 games for Triple-A Colorado Springs prior to switching organizations.

  • Brewers' Nick Noonan: Joins Brewers on minors deal

Noonan agreed to a minor league contract with the Brewers on Tuesday. The 2007 first-round pick has struggled during his limited time in the majors, most recently slashing .125/.182/.225 across 44 plate appearances over the past two years. He will serve as organizational infield depth for Milwaukee in 2017.

  • Nick Noonan: Elects free agency

Noonan declined an outright assignment to the minor leagues, electing free agency, AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reports. A first-round pick in 2007, he flopped in a 62-game audition with the Giants in 2013 and has logged a total of 44 plate appearances in the majors since. He was passed over for a September callup with the Padres this season and seems to be firmly in Quad-A territory, but some team may bring Noonan to camp as a non-roster invitee.

  • Padres' Nick Noonan: Designated for assignment

Noonan was designated for assignment on Wednesday. He had a brief opportunity earlier this year to get some traction as the Padres' starting shortstop, but that quickly evaporated. Noonan has a career .193/.239/.234 slash line in 155 big league plate appearances, and at 27 years old, there's little hope he'll turn into more than organizational filler.

  • Padres' Nick Noonan: Optioned to Triple-A

Noonan was optioned to Triple-A El Paso on Saturday. He was given a chance to take the starting shortstop job at the big league level and run with it, but a .167/.200/.167 slash line in 20 plate appearances quickly altered the Padres' plans. Alexei Ramirez figures to be the team's starting shortstop going forward.

  • Padres' Nick Noonan: Takes a seat Sunday

Noonan is out of the lineup Sunday against the Mets. Noonan has started three straight since his Padres debut Thursday, but will take a seat in favor of Alexei Ramirez for the Sunday afternoon showdown. The 27-year-old has struck out in four of his first 10 at-bats with San Diego, but will have plenty of chances to right the ship the rest of the way out.

  • Padres' Nick Noonan: New starting shortstop

Noonan will make his debut for the Padres on Thursday against the Pirates, starting at shortstop and hitting seventh. He was summoned from Triple-A on Wednesday with the expectation that he would see the bulk of the starts at shortstop for the Padres over the rest of the season. The 32nd overall pick in 2007, Noonan's career has not gone as he would have hoped, with just 135 career plate appearances in the big leagues. Noonan's Triple-A numbers were impressive, slashing .321/.353/.445 with four home runs in 87 games, but as a 27-year-old in the Pacific Coast League, it's hard to take those numbers at face value. He will get his chance to make a name for himself down the stretch with the Padres it seems, but for now he is best reserved for NL-only leagues and deep mixers.

  • Padres' Nick Noonan: Reassigned to minor league camp

The Padres reassigned Noonan to minor league camp Monday. Noonan put pen to paper on a minor league contract with the Padres in mid-February, but an invitation to spring training didn't yield the desire outcome. Still, he slashed .278/.350/.333 with one RBI and six runs scored in 18 at-bats, which could help the middle infielder make an appearance in the majors at some point during the upcoming season.

  • Padres' Nick Noonan: Inks minor league deal with Padres including spring training invite

Noonan signed a minor league contract with the Padres on Wednesday that includes an invite to major league spring training, Dennis Lin of the Union-Tribune reports. The former Giants infielder and San Diego native will be a non-roster invitee for Padres' upcoming spring training, where he'll compete against four other NRI infield candidates in addition to more established players for a spot on the roster. Noonan's left-handed bat would theoretically be a nice addition to the Padres' predominantly right-handed lineup, but the offseason signing of Alexei Ramirez makes Noonan a long shot at making the Opening Day roster.
