  • Mets' Danny Espinosa: Sent to minor-league camp

The Mets reassigned Espinosa to minor-league camp Sunday. Espinosa was a non-roster invitee in camp after signing a minor-league deal with the Mets in February, and his chances to make the Opening Day roster were always slim given the team's infield acquisitions this offseason. The 31-year-old didn't help himself this spring as he went 2-for-30 with one home run.

  • Mets' Danny Espinosa: Signs MiLB deal with Mets

Espinosa signed a minor-league contract with the Mets on Friday that includes an invitation to major-league spring training. Espinosa had stints with the Blue Jays, Dodgers and Phillies in 2018 but spent the entirety of the year with their Triple-A affiliates. The 31-year-old bounced around three teams in 2017 as well, slashing .173/.245/.278 in 295 major-league plate appearances. Espinosa should provide organizational infield depth given the revamping of the Mets' infield this offseason.

  • Danny Espinosa: Released by Phillies

Espinosa was cut loose by Philadelphia on Wednesday, Meghan Montemurro of The Athletic reports. Espinosa spent the past six weeks at Triple-A Lehigh Valley after signing a minor-league deal with the club in late June. Across 31 games with the IronPigs, Espinosa slashed .200/.243/.352 with four home runs, 14 RBI and three stolen bases. He will look to latch on with another organization, but don't expect any value out of the 31-year-old infielder.

  • Phillies' Danny Espinosa: Joins Phillies on minors deal

Espinosa agreed to a minor-league with the Phillies on Friday. Espinosa will join Triple-A Lehigh Valley. The veteran has been mostly a second baseman in his career, but he has a shot to earn some big-league playing time at third base or shortstop, as the Phillies' haven't gotten much production out of either spot this season. Espinosa isn't a good bet to produce much himself, though, having been last seen posting a .173/.245/.278 line in 93 games for three teams last season. He hasn't posted an above-average batting line since 2011 and has recorded a wRC+ above 80 just once since 2012.

  • Danny Espinosa: Cut loose by Dodgers

Espinosa was released by the Dodgers on Wednesday, Ken Gurnick of MLB.com reports. Espinosa will hit the open market for the second time this season after hitting just .150/.203/.267 across 19 games with Triple-A Oklahoma City. He'll look to latch on elsewhere as organizational infield depth.

  • Dodgers' Danny Espinosa: Inks minor-league deal with Dodgers

Espinosa signed a minor-league deal with the Dodgers, Bill Plunkett of The Orange County Register reports. The Dodgers are in need of middle infield help following the season-ending injury to Corey Seager (elbow), and Espinosa will be their latest attempt at a short-term solution. The veteran was cut loose by the Blue Jays after posting a .232 batting average in 13 minor-league games this season but could be the next man up in L.A. if more infield help is needed. According to Eric Stephen of TrueBlueLA.com, the Dodgers have only one position player (Rob Segedin) on the 40-man roster that isn't in the majors or on the disabled list, stressing the need to find an emergency option. Espinosa will immediately take the field for Triple-A Oklahoma City.

  • Blue Jays' Danny Espinosa: Assigned to Triple-A

The Blue Jays assigned Espinosa to Triple-A Buffalo on Monday, Shi Davidi of Sportsnet.ca reports. Espinosa's status had been in limbo for the last few days after Gift Ngeope beat him out for a reserve spot in the infield, but it appears the veteran has elected to remain in the organization for now. Since Espinosa's contract contains an out clause if he's not promoted to the big-league roster before the end of April, he's unlikely to stick around at Buffalo for more than a few weeks.

  • Blue Jays' Danny Espinosa: Signs NRI deal with Jays

Espinosa signed a minor-league deal with the Blue Jays on Saturday that includes an invite to spring training, Mike Wilner of Sportsnet 590 The Fan reports. Wilner expects Espinosa to make the big-league club out of camp as the 25th man, meaning Espinosa would act as insurance for Devon Travis, who has a lengthy injury history, and Troy Tulowitzki, who is already dealing with a heel injury that will sideline him for the start of the season. Espinosa hit .173 in 295 plate appearances last year and hit .209 in a full season in 2016, so while he has some power and is a quality defender, it is unlikely that he will hit for a high enough average to not be a net negative in most fantasy formats.

  • Danny Espinosa: Cut loose by New York

Espinosa was released by the Yankees on Monday, Jack Curry of YES Network reports. After the Yankees brought Neil Walker onto the team, Espinosa's presence on the roster was largely a redundancy. The 30-year-old was only 4-for-25 (.160) in 12 games for the Yankees this spring, so he wasn't exactly forcing the issue anyway. Espinosa has plenty of big-league experience to his name, so it wouldn't be too surprising to see him land with a different team on a minor-league deal.

  • Yankees' Danny Espinosa: Latches on with Yankees

Espinosa signed a minor-league contract with the Yankees on Monday which includes an invitation to spring training, Mark Feinsand of MLB.com reports. Espinosa will apparently get a chance to compete for the starting job at second base in camp, though given he couldn't hold a job with the Angels, Mariners or Rays in 2017, he seems like a long shot to crack the Yankees' Opening Day roster. The 30-year-old struggled mightily in 2017, hitting just .173/.245/.278 with a brutal 36.9 percent strikeout rate in 93 games split between three teams. Still, he's a serviceable defender up the middle of the infield, so a strong spring could earn him an Opening Day roster spot, though it would be unwise to expect much of a turnaround from Espinosa in 2018 if that's the case. He also likely wouldn't stick around once Gleyber Torres (elbow) is ready to take over as the team's starting second baseman.

  • Rays' Danny Espinosa: Outrighted from 40-man

Espinosa was outrighted from the Rays' 40-man roster Wednesday, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports. Espinosa was recently designated for assignment to make room on the 40-man roster for the impending return of Xavier Cedeno (forearm) from the 60-day DL. He appeared in just eight games during his brief time with the Rays, hitting a middling .273/.333/.273 with a poor 46 percent strikeout rate.

  • Rays' Danny Espinosa: Acquired by Tampa Bay

Espinosa was signed by the Rays prior to Friday's game against the Cardinals, Marc Topkin of The Tampa Bay Times reports. Espinosa will provide versatility in the infield for Tampa Bay as he can help out at several positions off the bench with his new club. The 30-year-old was recently released by the Mariners, and Tampa Bay marks his third different major-league home this season after beginning 2017 with the Angels. Espinosa has slashed .164/.237/.279 with six home runs and 31 RBI in 85 games this season.

  • Mariners' Danny Espinosa: Drives in run in spot start

Espinosa went 1-for-3 with an RBI double in Sunday's 9-1 loss to the Royals in Game 2 of a doubleheader. The veteran infielder drove in the only run of the contest for the Mariners when he opened the scoring with his second-inning two-bagger. Espinosa's struggles at the plate made the trip with him to Seattle from Los Angeles, as he's gone just 2-for-11 in the five games he's seen action in. Furthermore, the 30-year-old's playing time projects to dwindle even further now that Yonder Alonso has arrived in town.

  • Mariners' Danny Espinosa: Struggles in first Mariners start

Espinosa went 0-for-3 with two strikeouts in Wednesday's 4-0 loss to the Red Sox. Espinosa drew the proverbial short straw for his first start in a Seattle uniform with Chris Sale on the mound, but the slugger has been struggling throughout the season. The 30-year-old is now hitting just .067 in July and has struck out seven times in 15 at-bats during the month. However, Espinosa isn't slated to see much playing time in Seattle, with his opportunities likely to be almost exclusively limited to when Robinson Cano gets a day off.

  • Mariners' Danny Espinosa: Inks MLB deal with Mariners

Espinosa agreed to a major-league contract with the Mariners on Sunday, Tim Brown of Yahoo Sports reports. Just three days after being released by the Angels, the switch-hitting second baseman already has a new home (within the same division no less). This deal is an MLB agreement, so Espinosa would likely be in line to assume a reserve role once the pact is officially inked. Espinosa has a lot of pop in his bat for a second baseman, but his strikeout issues make him tough to trust, especially as a bench player.

  • Danny Espinosa: Released by Angels

Espinosa was released by the Angels on Thursday. The Angels ended the Espinosa experiment last weekend, designating him for assignment, and the 30-year-old is now free to explore other opportunities. Espinosa was a net positive at second base, but his struggles at the plate during his time with Anaheim (.162/.237/.276) far overshadowed his contributions in the field. Look for him to latch on with another club on a minor-league deal.

  • Angels' Danny Espinosa: Gets designated for assignment

The Angels designated Espinosa for assignment Sunday. With a .162/.237/.276 batting line over 254 plate appearances this season, Espinosa ranked among the worst-performing regulars in the league, and his nifty defensive work wasn't enough to make up for his empty offensive production. Espinosa's ability to play both middle-infield spots and occasionally hit for some pop could be enough to convince another team to take a flier on him via trade or waivers. However, if the 30-year-old goes unclaimed, he'll likely stick in the Angels organization and report to Triple-A Salt Lake. Barring further upgrades to the position leading up to the trade deadline, the Angels are set to go with a platoon at second base with Nick Franklin and Cliff Pennington.

  • Angels' Danny Espinosa: Hits bench Sunday

Espinosa is not in the lineup for Sunday's game against the Rangers, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports. For the fourth time in the past five games, Espinosa will find himself positioned on the bench. The veteran infielder is currently sporting a brutal .162 average on the season and will be replaced by Nick Franklin at the keystone.

  • Angels' Danny Espinosa: Takes seat Tuesday

Espinosa is out of the lineup Tuesday against the Twins, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports. Espinosa has produced only two hits in his last 24 at-bats, dropping his season average to .166. The veteran looks to be hanging on to the starting job at second base by a thread and may have already settled into a timeshare at the position. He'll be on the bench for the second time in four games while Nick Franklin receives the start at the keystone.

  • Angels' Danny Espinosa: Not in Thursday's lineup

Espinosa will get a day off Thursday, Jeff Fletcher of the Orange County Register reports. Espinosa currently has a six-game hit streak going, but takes the day off Thursday in favor of Cliff Pennington at second base. On the year, Espinosa is hitting just .176/.247/.307 with six home runs and 27 RBI, but due to Pennington's lack of production, will continue to get a majority of starts at the keystone.
