Nationals' Jonny Venters: Out for season after surgery
Venters (shoulder) underwent surgery in mid-August to address a torn capsule in his left shoulder and will miss the rest of the season, Jesse Dougherty of The Washington Post reports.
Venters has been on the injured list since early July and now won't be able to throw for about four months, so it's no guarantee he'll be ready for spring training, assuming he opts to continue his career. The 34-year-old finished the season with 11 runs allowed and a 12:10 K:BB across eight innings with the Braves and Nationals.

Nationals' Jonny Venters: Moves to 60-day IL
Venters (shoulder) was transferred to the 60-day injured list Wednesday, Jesse Dougherty of The Washington Post reports.
This move comes after Venters suffered a setback during a rehab appearance earlier in the week. The right-hander won't be eligible to return until Sept. 10 following his move to the 60-day shelf. Daniel Hudson, who was acquired from the Blue Jays on Wednesday, was added to the roster in a corresponding move.

Nationals' Jonny Venters: Faces setback
Venters (shoulder) experienced discomfort after two pitches in a rehab appearance Tuesday and will have his MRI reviewed, Byron Kerr of MASN Sports reports.
Venters has been sidelined with a shoulder strain since July 12, and it appears as though his time on the 10-day injured list will last longer than expected after he suffered a setback in his first rehab appearance. The middle reliever carries an ERA of 12.38 with a 12:10 K:BB in 12 appearances for the Braves and Nationals this season.

Nationals' Jonny Venters: Dealing with shoulder strain
Venters was placed on the 10-day injured list with a left shoulder strain Thursday.
The nature of the injury was initially undisclosed but was confirmed as a shoulder strain by the Nationals on Friday. If the issue isn't a severe one, Venters could be back as soon as next Thursday, as the move was made retroactive to Monday, but the team has yet to announce a timeline.

Nationals' Jonny Venters: Out with undisclosed injury
Venters landed on the 10-day injured list with an undisclosed injury Thursday.
The assignment was made retroactive to Monday, so Venters will be eligible to return as soon as next Thursday. The veteran has had a rough time this season when healthy, allowing 16 runs (11 earned) in eight innings of work while posting a walk rate of 20.4 percent between Atlanta and Washington, so the Nationals may not be looking to rush him back.

Nationals' Jonny Venters: Stuck with first loss as Nat
Venters (0-1) took the loss Friday against the Royals, giving up three runs (one earned) on three hits and a walk in the 11th inning while striking out one.
The veteran lefty had to deal with a Ryan Zimmerman throwing error behind him, but Venters had already allowed the winning run to score at that point. He now has a 2.70 ERA, 1.50 WHIP and 5:2 K:BB in 3.1 innings since joining the Nats.

Nationals' Jonny Venters: Called up by Washington
Venters' contract was selected by the Nationals on Tuesday.
Venters allowed 13 runs (nine earned) in 4.2 innings of work with the Braves earlier in the season before getting released. He allowed just a single run in seven innings with Double-A Harrisburg but also walked more batters (six) than he struck out (four).

Nationals' Jonny Venters: Will join big club
The Nationals intend to call up Venters from Double-A Harrisburg prior to Tuesday's game against the Marlins, Grant Paulsen of 106-7 The Fan Washington reports.
Washington is poised to add two veteran relievers to the 40-man and active rosters ahead of the series opener in Miami, with Fernando Rodney also slated to get the call to the big leagues. The Nationals already cleared a spot for one of the relievers by releasing Trevor Rosenthal on Sunday, but another player will still need to be removed from the 40-man roster later Tuesday. Venters failed to find much success in nine appearances out of the Atlanta bullpen earlier this season and didn't seem to get back on track during his time in Harrisburg. He allowed only one run and six hits in seven innings with the affiliate, but the 1.29 ERA was accompanied by a 4:6 K:BB.

Nationals' Jonny Venters: Latches on with Nationals
Venters signed a minor-league contract with the Nationals on Wednesday, Byron Kerr of MASN Sports reports.
Venters has found a new home after his early-season struggles (17.36 ERA, 3.64 WHIP and 7:8 K:BB in 4.2 innings) with the Braves ultimately led to his release in mid-May. The veteran reliever will report to Double-A Harrisburg, where he'll look to find his footing before potentially earning a promotion to the majors.

Braves' Jonny Venters: Notches first save
Venters retired the only batter he faced to record his first save of the season in Saturday's 6-4 win over the Diamondbacks.
Luke Jackson had pitched Thursday and Friday, so Atlanta manager Brian Snitker elected to play matchups in the ninth inning. Jacob Webb got the first two outs before Snitker brought in Venters to face David Peralta, who grounded out to first base to end the game. Venters will likely continue to be limited to a high-leverage LOOGY role, which means even if he thrives going forward, it could be awhile before his 18.00 ERA and 3.67 WHIP get whittled down to respectable levels.

Braves' Jonny Venters: Back from IL
Venters (calf) was reinstated from the 10-day injured list Friday.
Venters looked strong in his last rehab outing with Triple-A Gwinnett, and now he'll return to the big-league club. He had a rough start to the 2019 campaign, allowing six runs and striking out five over 2.2 innings of relief work, but he'll aim to get back on track now that he's returned to health.

Braves' Jonny Venters: Could be nearing return
Venters (calf) has looked sharp during his rehab stint with Triple-A Gwinnett, throwing six scoreless innings with a 5:1 K:BB over six appearances, Gabriel Burns of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.
The southpaw looked like he might come off the IL last weekend, but instead Atlanta elected to be more patient with the veteran reliever and make sure he was 100 percent before activating him, perhaps a wise decision given his injury history. Venters has an inflated 20.25 ERA in 2.2 innings before he got hurt, but if he's back to the form he displayed in 2018, that should come down quickly once he rejoins the big-league bullpen.

Braves' Jonny Venters: Set for one more rehab appearance
Manager Brian Snitker said Venters (calf) will probably make one more minor-league rehab appearance before being activated from the 10-day injured list, David O'Brien of The Athletic reports.
Venters apparently looked good during his first rehab appearance, allowing one walk and one hit in a scoreless inning of relief for Triple-A Gwinnett. If everything goes as planned during his second outing with the Stripers, the veteran southpaw could be cleared to rejoin the big-league bullpen over the weekend.

Braves' Jonny Venters: Close to rehab stint
Venters (calf) is close to beginning a minor-league rehab assignment, David O'Brien of The Athletic reports.
Venters landed on the injured list earlier in the month with a right calf strain but is nearing a return to game action. Seeing as the left-hander hasn't been sidelined for an extended period, he likely won't need too many rehab appearances before being cleared to rejoin the big-league bullpen.

Braves' Jonny Venters: Placed on injured list
Venters was placed on the 10-day injured list Monday with a right calf strain.
This could help explain his struggles to start the season, as Venters has allowed six runs with a 5:5 K:BB through 2.2 innings (six appearances) thus far. He'll be eligible to return as early as April 25 should he prove ready. The Braves are expected to announce a corresponding roster move prior to Tuesday's series opener against the Diamondbacks.

Braves' Jonny Venters: Struggling to find plate
Venters faced two batters Friday, walking one and striking out one in a loss to the Mets.
Entering the game for Kyle Wright in the fourth inning with two outs and two runners aboard. Venters issued a free pass to load the bases before fanning Keon Broxton to escape the jam. The veteran left-hander has made five appearances so far and hasn't worked a full inning in any of them, and while four of his seven outs have come via strikeout, he's also walked five batters and given up two homers. Venters was reasonably effective in his return to the majors in 2018, but if his struggles continue, Atlanta may decide to move on from him.

Braves' Jonny Venters: Healthy, thriving in spring
Venters retired the side in the eighth inning Sunday in the Braves' 7-3 Grapefruit League loss to the Astros.
Venters induced a trio of grounders to put the Astros down in order, continuing what has been an excellent spring for the 33-year-old lefty. Healthy again after a series of injuries prevented him from pitching in the majors from 2013 through 2017, Venters will likely factor prominently in the Braves' setup ranks this season.
