  • Tim Melville: Heads to China

Melville agreed to a contract July 12 with the Uni-President 7-Eleven Lions of the Chinese Professional Baseball League, CPBLStats.com reports. After being waived by the Rockies in May, Melville elected to head overseas when he failed to receive a spot in the 60-man roster pool of any of MLB's other 29 teams. Melville made seven starts for Colorado in the second half of the 2019 season, posting a 4.86 ERA, 1.44 WHIP and 24:14 K:BB in 33.1 innings.

  • Tim Melville: Cut by Colorado

Melville (rib) said Monday that he was recently released by the Rockies, Kyle Newman of The Denver Post reports. Melville had been attending spring training as a non-roster invitee after compiling a 4.86 ERA and 1.44 WHIP in 33.1 innings across seven late-season starts with Colorado in 2019. The right-hander's long-shot bid for the Rockies' Opening Day roster ended in February, when he suffered a cracked rib that sidelined him for the remainder of spring training. Though he's seemingly healthy again, the Rockies weren't interested in keeping him in the fold and will allow him to pursue opportunities elsewhere.

  • Rockies' Tim Melville: Out with cracked rib

Melville will miss 6-to-8 weeks after suffering a cracked rib, Nick Groke of The Athletic reports. The timeline means that Melville could still be ready to go by Opening Day, as that's still a little over six weeks away. He's unlikely to spend that day on the big-league roster even if healthy, however, as he's not a member of the 40-man roster and owns a 6.75 ERA and a 7.63 FIP in 48 career major-league innings.

  • Rockies' Tim Melville: Outrighted to Triple-A

Melville was outrighted to Triple-A Albuquerque on Wednesday. Melville recorded a decent 4.86 ERA in seven starts for the Rockies last season. That number came with a 6.63 FIP, however, so it's no surprise that the 30-year-old passed through waivers unclaimed.

  • Rockies' Tim Melville: Allows one run in no-decision

Melville took a no-decision during Wednesday's loss to the Giants, giving up one run on four hits and two walks with a pair of strikeouts across five innings. It was a strong outing for the right-hander, who surrendered his only run of the night via an RBI single by Kevin Pillar in the third inning. Melville closes out the season with a 2-3 record, 4.86 ERA, 1.44 WHIP and 24:14 K:BB across seven starts.

  • Rockies' Tim Melville: Takes third loss

Melville (2-3) took the loss against the Mets on Tuesday, giving up four earned runs on six hits over 5.2 innings, striking out two and walking one as the Rockies fell 6-1. Melville's final line wasn't disastrous, but he was done in by the long ball, serving up homers to Amed Rosario, Brandon Nimmo and Pete Alonso and ultimately getting hit with his third loss of the season. The 29-year-old has a 5.40 ERA, 1.48 WHIP and 22:12 K:BB in his six big-league starts this year.

  • Rockies' Tim Melville: Hit hard by Cardinals

Melville (2-2) allowed five earned runs on five hits and two walks while striking out one across three innings to take the loss Thursday against the Cardinals. Melville was sunk by the long ball, as he surrendered four home runs in his three innings of work. While he's now gotten hit hard at home in each of his last two outings -- he's allowed 10 earned runs in five innings -- Melville has pitched very well on the road, yielding just three earned runs across 12.2 frames. However, his next scheduled start is currently Tuesday at home against the Mets.

  • Rockies' Tim Melville: Whiffs eight in win

Melville (2-1) picked up the win against the Padres on Friday, striking out eight while allowing two runs on five hits and a pair of walks across 5.2 innings. The right-hander held the Padres scoreless until the third inning, when he gave up a two-run single to Eric Hosmer. That would be the only damage of the night for the Padres as Melville punched out a career-high eight batters to pick up his second win of the year. The 29-year-old, who was called up August 21 to replace Jon Gray (foot), now owns a 3.66 ERA and 1.42 WHIP across four appearances. He'll take the hill next Thursday against the Cardinals.

  • Rockies' Tim Melville: Gets quick hook in loss

Melville (1-1) took the loss Saturday as the Rockies fell 11-4 to the Pirates, giving up five runs (four earned) on six hits and two walks over only two innings. He struck out one. After two excellent starts to begin his stint in the Colorado rotation, Melville simply didn't have it Saturday -- Kevin Newman took him deep on the first pitch he threw, and it was downhill from there. The right-hander still has a 3.21 ERA since his promotion, but his 1.43 WHIP and 11:7 K:BB through 14 innings suggests he's been more lucky than good. Melville will next take the mound Friday in San Diego.

  • Rockies' Tim Melville: Records five shutout frames

Melville tossed five scoreless innings while allowing five hits with three walks and six strikeouts during a no-decision against the Braves on Monday. Unfortunately, Melville didn't earn the win because the Rockies scored just one run and blew their small lead in the ninth. However, the 29-year-old has been impressive through two starts, yielding just one run in 12 frames. He is 1-0 with a 0.75 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and 10 strikeouts during those two outings. One would think Melville has earned another start, and his turn in the rotation will pop up again Saturday at home against the Pirates.

  • Rockies' Tim Melville: Receives another turn

Melville is scheduled to start Monday's game against the Braves, Manny Randhawa of MLB.com reports. After Jon Gray (foot) and Kyle Freeland (groin) landed on the injured list last week, Melville would have been in good shape to pick up a second turn through the rotation regardless of how he performed in his Rockies debut Aug. 21, but the right-hander earned another start on merit. He claimed the win in a road start against the Diamondbacks, tossing seven innings of one-run ball and allowing only two hits and two walks. The 29-year-old's body of work at Triple-A Albuquerque this season (5.42 ERA, 1.59 WHIP in 96.1 innings) was far less impressive, however, making Melville difficult to trust as he returns to the mound Monday for an outing at Coors Field.

  • Rockies' Tim Melville: Shuts down Diamondbacks

Melville (1-0) allowed one earned run on two hits and two walks while striking out four across seven innings to earn the win Wednesday against the Diamondbacks. Melville was called up to make a spot start after Jon Gray (foot) was suddenly placed on the 60-day injured list. He turned in a strong effort, with a solo home run by Ketel Marte being his only big mistake of the contest. Of note, 13 of his 21 outs came on flyballs, a factor that may hold him back in home starts at Coors Field. It remains to be seen how the Rockies will use Melville going forward, as this was his first major-league start since 2017.

  • Rockies' Tim Melville: Starting in place of injured Gray

Melville had his contract selected from Triple-A Albuquerque on Wednesday and is starting against the Diamondbacks. Melville will join the big-league rotation in place of Jon Gray (foot), who landed on the injured list ahead of his scheduled start Wednesday against Arizona. The 29-year-old right-hander owns a lackluster 5.42 ERA, 1.58 WHIP and 94:40 K:BB in 96.1 innings with Albuquerque this season, so it would be unwise to expect much from Melville in what will be his first big-league start since 2017.

  • Orioles' Tim Melville: Receives invitation to spring training

Melville has been invited to Orioles spring training as a non-roster invitee. After signing a minor-league contract in December, Melville will have the chance to participate in spring training with the big club. Melville's major-league experience has been limited to this point, but hasn't gone well. In his career he's pitched 14.2 innings over 6 games, during which he's allowed 18 runs on 23 hits and 15 walks, giving him an 11.05 ERA and 2.59 WHIP.

  • Orioles' Tim Melville: Inks minor-league deal with Orioles

Melville agreed to terms on a minor-league contract with Baltimore on Friday, Roch Kubatko of MASN Sports reports. Melville spent this past year with three different organizations, finally winding up with the Padres after starting 2017 with the Long Island Ducks of the independent ALPB and then joining the Twins on a minor-league contract in June. The 28-year-old has been largely ineffective at the major-league level since 2016, appearing in just six games but posting a combined 11.05 ERA and 2.59 WHIP with a 15:15 K:BB. He was able to provide a solid campaign at the Triple-A level last year, but it seems highly unlikely that he will make an impact in the majors any time soon.

  • Tim Melville: Heads to free agency

Melville cleared waivers and elected to become a free agent Monday. Melville will test free agency rather than return to the Padres' minor-league system. The 28-year-old compiled a respectable 2.95 ERA across 76.1 innings at the Triple-A level last year, but struggled to a 11.12 ERA in 5.2 major-league frames. He'll likely settle for a minor-league deal.

  • Padres' Tim Melville: Summoned to big club

Melville was recalled from Triple-A El Paso on Monday. Melville will join the Padres after being claimed off waivers from the Twins last month. He compiled a healthy 2.95 ERA and 1.15 WHIP in 76.1 Triple-A innings this season, though he struggled in his only major-league appearance, allowing five runs in 3.1 frames of work. Melville's worked mostly as a starter in the past, and it's safe to assume he'll primarily serve as a mop-up man out of the Padres' bullpen down the stretch.

  • Padres' Tim Melville: Picked up by Padres

Melville was claimed off waivers by the Padres on Saturday. Now that he's a member of the Padres organization, Melville will likely provide organizational depth in the bullpen. The 27-year-old has had limited exposure to the majors over the course of his career, as he's pitched just 12.1 innings over four games in big leagues. In that time he's allowed 16 runs on 12 walks and 20 hits, six of which were home runs.

  • Twins' Tim Melville: DFA'd Tuesday

Melville was designated for assignment Tuesday, Mike Berardino of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports. Melville was recalled from Triple-A Rochester on Monday to take the mound against the White Sox. He turned in a miserable outing (five runs over 3.1 innings) and will now be cast off the 40-man roster. Minor-league arm John Curtiss is expected to occupy the open spot on the roster.

  • Twins' Tim Melville: Hit hard in debut against White Sox

Melivlle (0-1) allowed five runs on four hits and three walks across 3.1 innings to earn the loss Monday against the White Sox. Melville, who held his own through the first three innings of his season debut, struggled in the fourth, when he allowed a three-run home run to Yolmer Sanchez with one out. He was laboring at that point to the tune of 82 pitches -- partly due to a hefty 29 foul balls by the opposition -- and was removed in favor of the bullpen. Melville's line was inflated by the big hit, but this performance did not help his bid to make another spot start this Saturday.
