Braves' Chris Sale: Next start pushed back
Sale will make his next scheduled start Wednesday against the Reds, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports.
The veteran southpaw was originally slated to start during the weekend series against the Astros. Instead, Atlanta will go with Tyler Mahle on Friday, Grant Holmes on Saturday and Martin Perez on Sunday, per Jesus Cano of The Athletic. Sale has logged a quality start in each of his last nine outings, posting a 5-3 record with a 2.14 ERA, 0.80 WHIP and 73:6 K:BB over 59 innings in that span.

Braves' Chris Sale: Extends quality start streak Friday
Sale did not factor into the decision in Friday's 6-5 extra-innings win over the Phillies, allowing three runs on three hits and two walks with six strikeouts over seven innings.
Sale allowed a bases-loaded double in the second inning but settled in from there, throwing 59 of 94 pitches for strikes with 11 whiffs. The veteran southpaw has now recorded a quality start in each of his nine outings since the All-Star break, posting a 2.14 ERA during that stretch. He'll take a 2.18 ERA, 0.99 WHIP and 190:31 K:BB across 157 innings this season into a road matchup with the Astros next weekend.

Braves' Chris Sale: Fans seven for 14th win
Sale (14-9) earned the win against the Phillies on Friday, allowing two runs on six hits and one walk while striking out seven across six innings.
Both of the runs Sale gave up were to Alec Bohm, who hit an RBI double and a solo home run in the second and fourth innings, respectively. Those were the only blemishes to Sale's line Friday, with the veteran southpaw recording an eighth consecutive quality start -- recording at least six strikeouts in each of those outings -- and his 18 quality starts this season are tied for fifth most in the majors. Sale is showing no signs of slowing down in his age-37 season, as he ranks second in the National League in ERA (2.10), third in both wins (14) and WHIP (1.01) and fourth in strikeouts (184) across 150 innings. He's lined up to face the Rays at home next week.

Braves' Chris Sale: Dominates Dodgers with shutout
Sale (13-9) earned the win over the Dodgers on Thursday, allowing five hits and striking out 11 batters without issuing any walks over nine scoreless innings.
Sale was magnificent against the defending champions, racking up 20 whiffs while throwing 80 of 109 pitches for strikes. The veteran left-hander logged his first complete game and first shutout since 2019, and it was also just the ninth complete-game shutout by an MLB pitcher this season. Sale entered the contest on a three-game losing streak despite tossing three quality starts during that span, so he took matters in his own hands and got back into the win column even with just one run of support from Atlanta's offense. He's been one of the top hurlers in baseball during his 16th big-league campaign, ranking second among qualified starters with a 2.06 ERA, sixth with a 1.00 WHIP and seventh with 177 strikeouts over 144 innings spanning 24 starts.

Sale (12-9) took the loss Friday, allowing two runs on eight hits over six innings as Atlanta was downed 2-1 by the Brewers. He struck out six without walking a batter.
Matched up against Jacob Misiorowski in a battle of NL Cy Young contenders, Sale delivered his 16th quality start of the season on 94 pitches (68 strikes), but the veteran southpaw didn't get enough offensive support to avoid the loss. Sale has reeled off six straight quality starts since the All-Star break, posting a 2.19 ERA, 0.81 WHIP and stunning 49:3 K:BB in 37 innings over that stretch. Despite those impressive numbers, he'll look to snap a three-start losing streak in his next outing, which lines up to come at home next weekend against the Rockies.

He owns a 2.16 ERA, 1.02 WHIP and 160:28 K:BB across 129 frames this season and lines up for a road matchup with the Twins next week.

Braves' Chris Sale: Takes loss despite quality start
Sale (12-7) took the loss Saturday, giving up three runs on five hits and two walks over six innings as Atlanta fell 5-4 to the Yankees. He struck out eight.
The veteran southpaw dialed up his fourth straight quality start and 14th of the season on 103 pitches (64 strikes), but Sale left the game with his team down 3-2 and Atlanta never found an equalizer. Sale hasn't allowed more than three runs in an outing since April 6, and since the beginning of June he's produced a 2.41 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 71:11 K:BB through 56 innings over his last 10 starts. He'll look to keep rolling in his next trip to the mound, which lines up to come at home next weekend against the Diamondbacks.

Braves' Chris Sale: Start pushed back
Sale is slated to make his next start during Atlanta's road series against the Yankees next weekend, Chad Bishop of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.
Sale was lined up to toe the rubber in Tuesday's series opener against Miami, but he will now be pushed back a few days. The southpaw has posted a 1.23 ERA and 0.59 WHIP with 31 strikeouts over 22 innings in his last four appearances, so Atlanta's decision to push him back in the pitching schedule isn't performance-based and is likely just a measure to build in some extra rest for him during the grueling season.
