Jurickson Profar wasn't guaranteed a starting role when he re-upped with the Padres on a one-year deal last offseason, but the veteran outfielder not only maintained an everyday spot in the lineup, he put together his first All-Star and Silver Slugger campaign while blowing away his previous career-best mark with an .839 OPS. Profar has always been adept at making contact and maintaining good plate discipline, and that was evidenced again in 2024 with his 15.1 percent strikeout rate along with a chase rate and whiff rate that were both in the top 90th percentile leaguewide. Where he really made strides, though, was in the quality of his contact -- Profar's average exit velocity (91.1 percent) ranked in the 80th percentile across baseball while his 44.4 percent hard-hit rate ranked in the 71st percentile. Those are stark contrasts to his previous campaigns, as Profar had never before ranked above even the 25th percentile in either category since Statcast was introduced. Such a dramatic improvement naturally begs for an explanation, and the answer for Profar likely lies in a change to his batting stance that also helped produce a career-best 7.2 percent barrel rate. While it needs to be noted that Profar's numbers tailed off to some extent late in the season, it should also be mentioned that he followed a miserable August during which he batted just .196 with a .689 OPS with a bounce-back September that included a .275 batting average and .818 OPS. Profar's outstanding campaign will likely land him a significant pay raise in 2025, and while his lack of speed, non-elite power and poor previous track record prevents him from being among fantasy's most desirable outfielders, he could settle within the top 25 to 30 at the position given his 2024 numbers and the underlying metrics that support them.

  • Braves' Jurickson Profar: Looks healthy in leadoff spot

Profar went 2-for-4 with a double in Thursday's Grapefruit League game against the Phillies. Seeing his first Grapefruit League action since March 8 after recovering from a wrist injury, Profar slotted immediately back into the leadoff spot and wasted no time showing he was healthy by rapping a first-inning two-bagger off Nabil Crismatt. After a breakout 2024 campaign with the Padres, the switch-hitting Profar signed a three-year contract with Atlanta over the winter and should slot in atop a potent batting order for at least the early part of the season, until Ronald Acuna (knee) is ready to rejoin the lineup.

  • Braves' Jurickson Profar: Slated to return to action Thursday

Profar (wrist) is scheduled to return to Atlanta's Grapefruit League lineup Thursday versus the Phillies, David O'Brien of The Athletic reports. Profar hasn't played since March 8 due to a bone bruise in his left wrist, but he resumed taking batting practice this week and will return to game action Thursday. The 32-year-old is slated to play in the rest of Atlanta's Grapefruit League contests as he gears up for Opening Day.

  • Braves' Jurickson Profar: Took batting practice Sunday

Profar (wrist) took batting practice Sunday and could return to Grapefruit League action Thursday, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports. Profar's batting practice came a day earlier than expected, which would seem to be a good sign as he works his way back from a bone bruise in his left wrist. He could be back in Grapefruit League games soon and getting in some extra reps in minor-league contests is a possibility, as well. Profar is expected to be ready to roll come Opening Day.

  • Braves' Jurickson Profar: Could resume swinging bat soon

Profar (wrist) will be limited to tracking pitches for now but could be cleared to resume swinging a bat in a few days, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports. Profar was diagnosed with a bone bruise in his left wrist after having to exit a Grapefruit League game over the weekend. He is not expected to miss any regular-season action, saying Wednesday that he's "very confident" he'll be ready to go Opening Day.

  • Braves' Jurickson Profar: Dealing with bone bruise

Profar was diagnosed with a bone bruise in his left wrist Sunday, and he's not expected to be sidelined for Opening Day, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports. The news comes as a relief for Atlanta, which will already be without star Ronald Acuna (knee) for the start of the campaign. Profar signed a three-year, $42 million contract in January and is poised to operate as Atlanta's primary left fielder after posting an .839 OPS with 24 homers in 158 regular-season games for San Diego last year.

  • Braves' Jurickson Profar: Heading for CT scan

Profar flew to Atlanta on Sunday to undergo a CT scan on his jammed left wrist, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports. The 32-year-old had X-rays come back negative after suffering the injury during Saturday's Grapefruit League matchup with the Pirates, but he's set to receive another round of imaging. The results of Profar's CT scan are expected to be available Monday. If he's unavailable to begin the regular season, Bryan De La Cruz and Jarred Kelenic would likely fill starting roles in Atlanta's outfield, rather than platooning in right field.

  • Braves' Jurickson Profar: Exits with jammed wrist

Profar was removed from Saturday's Grapefruit League game against Pittsburgh due to a jammed left wrist. Initial X-rays on Profar's wrist came back negative, but he will go in for additional testing within the next few days. If the 32-year-old is forced to miss time, an opportunity would open up for Bryan De La Cruz to receive more reps in the outfield.

  • Braves' Jurickson Profar: Candidate to hit leadoff

Profar could hit leadoff for Atlanta until Ronald Acuna (knee) is fully healthy, David O'Brien of The Athletic reports. Michael Harris might also see action at the top of the lineup, but Profar appears to be the team's best leadoff option while Acuna completes his recovery from ACL surgery. In 83 regular-season plate appearances at leadoff for the Padres last season, Profar delivered an eye-popping .451 OBP, helping to fuel his career-high .380 season-long mark in that category. The 31-year-old also scored a career-high 94 runs in 2024, and he could challenge triple digits if he sees significant time hitting ahead of the likes of Austin Riley, Matt Olson and Marcell Ozuna this season.

  • Braves' Jurickson Profar: Agrees to contract with Atlanta

Atlanta agreed to terms on a three-year, $42 million contract with Profar on Thursday, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports. Profar delivered the best season of his career in 2024, slashing .280/.380/.459 with 24 homers and 10 steals in 158 games during the regular season with the Padres. He also hit the ball harder than ever with a 91.1 mph average exit velocity. Profar should become Atlanta's everyday left fielder, which could leave Jarred Kelenic without a starting job once Ronald Acuna (knee) returns.

  • Padres' Jurickson Profar: Resting Sunday

Profar is absent from Sunday's lineup against the Diamondbacks. Profar will begin the Padres' regular-season finale on the bench after going 1-for-8 with two runs scored over the first two games of the series. Unless he pinch hits Sunday, he'll end the 2024 regular season with a .280/.380/.459 slash line, 24 home runs and 85 RBIs (both career highs) across 668 plate appearances. David Peralta will start in left field and bat third.

  • Padres' Jurickson Profar: Goes deep in Sunday's win

Profar went 2-for-3 with a solo homer, two RBI and a stolen base in Sunday's win over the White Sox. Profar knotted the game up in the bottom of the third with a solo home run and then put the Padres ahead for good with a sacrifice fly in the eighth. He now has at least one hit in 13 of his last 15 games but has only driven in four runs despite posting a .345 average during that span. Profar continues to shine in his 31-year-old season, slashing .285/.385/.469 with 24 homers, 85 RBI, 90 runs, 10 steals and a 75:96 BB:K in 646 plate appearances.

  • Padres' Jurickson Profar: Smacks solo homer in loss

Profar went 1-for-4 with a solo homer and a walk in Thursday's loss to Detroit. Profar got the Padres on the board with a 411-foot solo homer off Casey Mize in the first inning and later drew a free pass, extending his streak of games with at least one walk to five. The long ball was Profar's 22nd of the season and his first in September -- he's batting just .125 (1-for-8) with two RBI, five walks and a run scored on the month. The outfielder has really struggled at the plate down the stretch, as he also batted just .196 in August. However, he's somewhat been able to make up for his lack of hitting by drawing 18 walks since the start of August, which has helped him score 20 runs over that span.

  • Padres' Jurickson Profar: Rare day off Monday

Profar is not in the lineup for Monday's contest against the Tigers, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports. It's the first day off since June 22 for Profar, who has just one hit over his last seven games, though he has drawn nine walks over that span. David Peralta will take over in left field while Profar gets a breather.

  • Padres' Jurickson Profar: Goes deep in comeback win

Profar went 2-for-4 with a two-run homer in Sunday's win over the Mets. Profar finally got the Padres on the board with a game-tying two-run blast in the eighth inning and they would go on to walk it off in the ninth. He has at least a hit in four straight games, which also includes an extra-base hit in three straight. The home run was his 21st of the year, a new career-high for the 31-year-old in his 11th season. For the year, Profar is slashing .291/.386/.478 with 79 RBI, 75 runs, seven steals and a 58:80 BB:K in 541 plate appearances.

  • Padres' Jurickson Profar: Hits clutch home run

Profar went 1-for-4 with a three-run homer in Tuesday's win over the Twins. Profar's bat woke up when it mattered most, as he took Steven Okert deep in the eighth to put the Padres ahead 6-5. It was his first home run since Aug. 4 and and his first multi-RBI game since July 31. He's been a revelation for the Padres this season; the 31-year-old is slashing .290/.387/.474 with 20 homers, 76 RBI, 74 runs, seven steals and a 57:76 BB:K in 521 plate appearances.

  • Padres' Jurickson Profar: Records steal Monday

Profar went 1-for-4 with two runs and a stolen base in a 5-3 win against Minnesota on Monday. Profar had been in a cold spell coming into the contest, going 4-for-27 with only one extra-base hit over his previous seven games. Though he had just one base knock against the Twins, he added some useful fantasy production with a pair of runs and a theft. Profar has slowed down a bit after an excellent first half of the campaign, but he's still slashing a solid .290/.388/.469 with 19 homers, 73 RBI, 73 runs and seven stolen bases over 124 contests on the season.

  • Padres' Jurickson Profar: Cleared to start Thursday

Profar (knee) will start in left field and bat second in Thursday's game against the Pirates. Profar was lifted for a pinch runner in the top of the sixth inning of Wednesday's 9-8 extra-inning win after he was hit just below the right kneecap by a 95-mile-per-hour fastball. Per Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune, X-rays on Profar's knee came back negative, and he didn't appear to be limping around the clubhouse following Wednesday's game. As such, the Padres evidently felt comfortable enough with inserting Profar back in the lineup for the series finale.

  • Padres' Jurickson Profar: X-rays negative

X-rays on Profar's right knee came back negative after Wednesday's game against Pittsburgh, AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reports. Profar was forced out of Wednesday's game after he took a pitch off his knee and struggled to run the bases in the sixth inning, but he seems to have escaped the incident without suffering any significant injuries. He's being viewed as day-to-day for now, and Bryce Johnson would be a likely option to start if Profar is unable to play in Thursday's series finale.

  • Padres' Jurickson Profar: Exits after HBP

Profar was removed from Wednesday's game against the Pirates after getting hit in the knee by a pitch, Noah Hiles of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports. Profar took a 95-mph fastball off his right knee in the sixth inning. He was able to limp to first base and remained in the game after being examined by trainers, but the decision to pull him was made after he had a hard time running to second base on a Xander Bogaerts single. The severity of Profar's injury is still unknown, but Bryce Johnson could be in line to make a start in the outfield if the 31-year-old is forced to miss any amount of time.

  • Padres' Jurickson Profar: Swats solo home run

Profar went 2-for-4 with a solo homer, a double, a walk and three runs scored in Sunday's win over the Rockies. Profar got his day going with a solo blast to right in the fifth to extend the Padres' lead to 3-1. He then followed that up with a double in the seventh and a walk in the eighth and scored both times. He now has six multi-hit efforts over his last 12 games and is slashing .319/.429/.681 with five homers, 12 RBI, 11 runs and an 8:8 BB:K over that span. For the year, the 31-year-old All-Star is slashing .300/.393/.491 with 19 homers, 71 RBI, 63 runs, five steals and a 54:68 BB:K in 458 plate appearances. He remains one of 13 qualified players who is currently hitting at least .300.
