Week 26 Preview: Schedule, Sleepers & Two-Start Pitchers

Player Outlook
Jurickson Profar was just four games into his Atlanta career before he got popped with an 80-game PED suspension. Considering how much of an outlier his 2024 season was compared to the rest of his career, it was natural to be skeptical about how productive the 33-year-old would be once reinstated. However, while Profar did not match his 2024 level of production upon his return in June, he was still quite good, finishing with a .787 OPS, 122 wRC+, 14 home runs and nine stolen bases over 371 plate appearances. Profar's plate discipline remained elite with a 15.9 percent strikeout rate and 12.9 percent walk rate, but a spiked flyball rate (31.3 percent) contributed to a dip in batting average. It's difficult to project what Profar will look like in 2026, but he'll be in a favorable home park, part of what should be a solid lineup and will likely hit in one of the first two spots in the batting order.

  • Braves' Jurickson Profar: Healthy after sports hernia surgery

Profar said Sunday that he's operating with no restrictions entering spring training after undergoing sports hernia surgery in November, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports. Though he wasn't known to be nursing an injury heading into the offseason, Profar said that he first began to feel discomfort in his core in September. He proceeded to play through the issue but then felt the discomfort crop up again early in his offseason workouts before opting for a procedure. According to Profar, he required six weeks of recovery time following surgery, but he's back to full health heading into his second season with Atlanta. Despite missing 80 games last season after testing positive for performance-enhancing drugs in late March, Profar was one of Atlanta's more productive bats when available, slashing .245/.353/.434 with 14 home runs and and nine steals across 371 plate appearances. The 32-year-old made all but one of his 80 starts in left field in 2025, but he's expected to serve as Atlanta's primary designated hitter to begin the upcoming season after the team added Mike Yastrzemski in free agency this winter.

  • Braves' Jurickson Profar: Expected to be primary DH

Atlanta manager Walt Weiss said Friday that he expects Profar to be deployed at designated hitter often early in the season, Chad Bishop of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports. Profar will not be a full-time DH, as Weiss likes the flexibility of using others in the spot on occasion, but heading into the season he is viewed as the team's primary option. The switch hitter could shift to left field against tougher southpaws, with the lefty-swinging Mike Yastrzemski going to the bench.

  • Braves' Jurickson Profar: Reinstated from paternity leave

Atlanta activated Profar from the paternity list Thursday. Profar missed the final two games of the series against the Cubs while welcoming a new baby to the family, but he'll be ready for the start of the weekend series against the Mariners. The switch hitter is slashing .253/.386/.471 with nine homers and eight steals in the second half.

  • Braves' Jurickson Profar: Goes on paternity list

Atlanta placed Profar on the paternity list Tuesday. Profar will likely miss the final two games of the series against the Cubs before rejoining Atlanta for the start of a homestand Friday. Jake Fraley and Eli White will likely pick up the slack in left field while Profar is away.

  • Braves' Jurickson Profar: Goes yard twice in Miami

Profar went 2-for-3 with three walks, two solo home runs and two additional runs scored in Wednesday's 12-1 rout of the Marlins. Profar set the tone for the offensive eruption when he took Ryan Gusto deep on the third pitch he saw to lead off the game, before clubbing a Seth Martinez sweeper into the second deck in right field at loanDepot Park to wrap up the scoring in the seventh inning. Profar is up to 12 homers on the season, and six of them have come in the last 10 games -- a stretch in which the 32-year-old outfielder is batting .385 (15-for-39) with three steals, 13 runs, 17 RBI and an 8:5 BB:K.

Profar went 3-for-4 with a double, four RBI and a run scored in Friday's 12-7 loss to the Mets. It was the third three-hit game of the season by Profar, who fell one RBI short of his season high. The journeyman switch hitter has been on fire since the start of August, slashing .303/.442/.645 with 11 extra-base hits, 21 RBI and four stolen bases across his last 95 plate appearances. Profar has also hit safely in 14 of his 20 outings this month as Atlanta's leadoff batter.

Profar went 3-for-5 with two home runs, five RBI, a stolen base and an additional run scored in Monday's 13-9 loss to the White Sox. Profar was relatively quiet at the dish after returning from his suspension in July, posting a .709 OPS last month, but he's really starting to pick up steam in August. The journeyman switch hitter now has five career multi-homer games, and he's hit safely in 12 of his last 17 outings. Profar is slashing a robust .297/.444/.641 with nine extra-base hits, 15 RBI, 16 runs scored and four stolen bases over his last 81 plate appearances.

  • Braves' Jurickson Profar: Goes deep in win

Profar went 2-for-4 with a two-run homer and a walk in Sunday's win over Cleveland. Profar's two-run shot in the sixth inning proved to be the game-winning blast. He snapped an eight-game homerless drought and is up to seven through 44 games this season. Profar has three multi-hit performances over his last seven games, going 9-for-29 (.310) during that span. He's slashing .246/.350/.429 with 17 extra-base hits and 21 RBI through 203 plate appearances.

Profar went 3-for-5 with a double, a run scored, three RBI and a stolen base in Wednesday's win over the Mets. The veteran outfielder drove in multiple runs for the first time since July 10, and through 12 games in August he's slashing .279/.446/.581 with three homers, three steals, eight RBI and 12 runs. Profar's been thriving at the top of the batting order, but with Ronald Acuna (calf) set to return from the IL any day now, it's not clear which of them will handle leadoff duties.

  • Braves' Jurickson Profar: Productive in Friday's loss

Profar went 1-for-3 with a walk, a solo home run and a stolen base in Friday's loss to the Marlins. Atlanta scored only one run on the night, and it came when Profar spoiled Edward Cabrera's shutout bid in the sixth inning. Profar has gone yard three times in the last five games, and he's been setting the table effectively for the team from the leadoff spot -- over his last 16 games, he's slashing .238/.377/.460 with with two steals, six RBI, nine runs and a 13:13 BB:K.

Profar went 1-for-2 with two walks and a solo home run in Monday's 3-1 loss to the Brewers. Atlanta managed only three hits in total against Quinn Priester and the Milwaukee bullpen, but one of them was Profar's blast to lead off the bottom of the first inning. The veteran outfielder snapped an 18-game power drought in the process, and through 16 contests since the All-Star break, he's slashing .203/.346/.328 with two steals, four RBI and eight runs.

  • Braves' Jurickson Profar: Swipes base in win

Profar went 0-for-3 with two walks, a steal and a run scored in Monday's 9-5 victory over San Francisco. Profar notched his first steal of the season when he took second off Giants reliever Camilo Doval in the eighth inning. This marks the 32-year-old's first stolen base since Sept. 22, 2024, when he was a member of the Padres. Since returning from an 80-game PED suspension in early July, Profar has batted .238 (15-for-63) with three homers, 11 runs scored and eight RBI across 15 games.

  • Braves' Jurickson Profar: Could stick in leadoff spot

Profar went 1-for-4 with a walk and a run scored in Friday's win over the Yankees, and David O'Brien of The Athletic reports that Atlanta manager Brian Snitker could consider leaving the veteran outfielder in the leadoff spot even after Austin Riley (abdomen) returns to the lineup. In three games since Riley landed on the IL, Profar has hit at the top of the order and reached base six times, while Ronald Acuna has dropped down to third and gone 3-for-11 with three extra-base hits. Riley typically hits third, but he could find himself lower in the order when he gets healthy. "I kind of like [Acuna] there," Snitker said after Friday's game. "I like that top three right there [with Matt Olson batting second], I think that's pretty good. I've always envisioned [Acuna] being that guy. We'll see, but I don't think Austin's gonna care where he hits either." Since returning to the lineup in early July following an 80-game PED suspension, Profar is slashing .288/.302/.538 with four doubles, three homers, eight RBI and nine runs in 12 contests.

  • Braves' Jurickson Profar: Goes yard Thursday

Profar went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in Thursday's 5-4 extra-innings loss to the Athletics. Profar has hit safely in six of eight games since returning from his 80-game PED suspension. In that span, he's lifted three homers while going 8-for-34 (.235) at the plate. As expected, Profar has settled back in as Atlanta's primary left fielder, and he's delivering notable power. He's also struck out nine times since his return, though none of them came Thursday, so it shouldn't be too long until his timing is all the way back.

  • Braves' Jurickson Profar: Goes yard again Thursday

Profar went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Thursday's loss to the Angels. The veteran outfielder is doing his best to make up for lost time, going yard in back-to-back games after being reinstated from his 80-game PED suspension. Profar should be a hot commodity on waiver wires this weekend as a result, but his second-half production still isn't likely to match the career-best pace he posted in 2024 at 31 years old, when he delivered 24 homers and an .839 OPS over 158 regular-season games for the Padres.

  • Braves' Jurickson Profar: Belts solo homer in return

Profar went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in Wednesday's 8-3 win over the Angels. Profar made his first start since March 30 on Wednesday after serving his 80-game suspension for violating the league's PED policy. He collected his first hit in the sixth on a single before launching a solo shot to right field in the seventh, his first of the season. Profar will serve as Atlanta's everyday left fielder after the team designated Alex Verdugo for assignment. However, if Atlanta can turn things around and make the playoffs, Profar would be ineligible to play in October due to the suspension.

  • Braves' Jurickson Profar: Returns from suspension

Atlanta reinstated Profar (suspension) from the restricted list. He'll start in left field and bat fifth in Wednesday's game against the Angels. Atlanta designated Alex Verdugo for assignment to clear room on the 40-man roster for Profar, who should step back in as the club's everyday left fielder after serving his 80-game suspension for violating MLB's performance-enhancing drugs policy. Despite his long layoff from action, the 32-year-old didn't show any signs of rust during his 13-game rehab assignment with Triple-A Gwinnett, as he slashed .333/.407/.583 with three home runs and an 8:6 K:BB. Profar had batted out of the leadoff spot in Atlanta's first four games of the season before being suspended, but with Ronald Acuna having since returned from the injured list and with Matt Olson thriving of late out of the two hole, Profar is expected to hit in the middle of the lineup moving forward.

  • Braves' Jurickson Profar: Likely to bat in heart of order

Manager Brian Snitker said Sunday that he expects to slot Profar (suspension) in the middle of the Atlanta lineup when the 32-year-old outfielder returns from the restricted list for Wednesday's game against the Angels, David O'Brien of The Athletic reports. "I think we can move [Profar] around in kind of the middle of the order," Snitker said. "The fact he's a switch hitter and all that's gonna work out good." Before he was handed an 80-game suspension March 31 for violating MLB's performance-enhancing drugs policy, Profar had batted leadoff in each of Atlanta's first four games. Ronald Acuna has since returned from the injured list to reclaim table-setting duties, but Snitker had previously said two weeks ago that he expects to deploy Profar as the team's everyday left fielder and No. 2 hitter upon his return. However, with Atlanta receiving good results from Matt Olson out of the two hole lately, Snitker is now more inclined to have Profar slot into the middle of the batting order against both right- and left-handed pitching, which could create more RBI opportunities for the switch hitter. Since beginning his rehab assignment at Triple-A Gwinnett on June 17, Profar has looked dialed in at the plate, slashing .326/.404/.587 with three home runs and an 8:6 BB:K.

  • Braves' Jurickson Profar: Two hits to kick off rehab stint

Profar (suspension) went 2-for-3 with a walk and an RBI for Triple-A Gwinnett on Tuesday. The 32-year-old outfielder has missed most of the season so far due to an 80-game PED suspension, but Profar began a rehab assignment Tuesday and didn't show any rust. He's eligible to be reinstated July 2, and he should immediately slot back in as Atlanta's starting left fielder and two-hole hitter.
