Rubby De La Rosa: Ticketed for free agency
The Dodgers released De La Rosa on Friday.
De La Rosa, who previously spent parts of seven seasons in the majors from 2011 through 2017, joined the Dodgers on a minor-league deal in February following a four-year run overseas with the Yomiuri Giants of Nippon Professional Baseball. After failing to win a spot in the Dodgers' Opening Day bullpen, De La Rosa never joined an affiliate before he was cut loose.

The right-hander hasn't appeared in an MLB game since 2017 as a member of the Diamondbacks. He will provide Triple-A Oklahoma City with some depth for the 2023 campaign.

Dodgers' Rubby De La Rosa: Nets minors deal from Dodgers
De La Rosa signed a minor-league contract with the Dodgers on Friday.
It's a homecoming of sorts for the right-hander, who came up in the Dodgers' system and debuted for them all the way back in 2011. De La Rosa, who turns 34 next month, has spent the last four years as a reliever with the Yomiuri Giants in Japan. He hasn't appeared in a major-league game since 2017.

Diamondbacks' Rubby De La Rosa: Heading to minor-league camp
De La Rosa was reassigned to minor-league camp Tuesday.
De La Rosa is back on the mound for the first time in 18 months after recovering from Tommy John surgery. He'll need more time to get up to speed in the minors, as he allowed three runs in 3.2 innings of spring work.

Diamondbacks' Rubby De La Rosa: Likely headed for Triple-A
The Diamondbacks feel De La Rosa may be best served starting the season at Triple-A Reno, Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic reports.
De La Rosa is pitching again after missing 18 months due to Tommy John elbow surgery -- the second time he's undergone that procedure. He's had a pair of scoreless outings this spring, including one in an appearance against the Reds on Monday, when he flashed a high-90s fastball while striking out the side. By having De La Rosa start at Reno, the organization can easily limit the length and frequency of his appearances. Once the right-hander is eased into the season, De La Rosa can rejoin the Diamondbacks' bullpen, where he's shown flashes of being a dominant late-inning weapon.

Diamondbacks' Rubby De La Rosa: Dials it up in debut
De La Rosa (elbow) walked one batter in a scoreless inning Wednesday against the Padres.
De La Rosa looked good in his first game action since undergoing Tommy John surgery in August of 2018. The 29-year-old reportedly touched 99 mph with his fastball, Nick Piecoro of The Arizona Republic reports. If De La Rosa is able to prove his health, he could carve out a role for himself in Arizona's bullpen.

Diamondbacks' Rubby De La Rosa: Agrees to minor-league deal with Arizona
De La Rosa (elbow) signed a minor-league contract with the Diamondbacks on Wednesday.
De La Rosa was recently released by Arizona on Sept. 1 in order to free up a 40-man roster spot, but will rejoin the organization heading into the 2018 campaign. The right-hander is unlikely to see any time on the mound this upcoming season after undergoing Tommy John surgery -- for the second time -- in late August.

Rubby De La Rosa: Released by Diamondbacks
De La Rosa (elbow) was released by the Diamondbacks on Friday.
The Diamondbacks were in need of a spot on the 40-man roster, so they decided to take De La Rosa off it, and he in turn decided to become a free agent. The righty recently underwent Tommy John surgery for the second time, so he could be out until 2019, and it remains to be seen what uniform he'll be in next time he is ready to get up on a mound.

Diamondbacks' Rubby De La Rosa: Undergoes successful Tommy John surgery
De La Rosa (elbow) underwent successful Tommy John surgery Tuesday, Nick Piecoro of The Arizona Republic reports.
At 28 years old, De La Rosa has now undergone the procedure twice, with the first coming in 2011. The rehab process should keep De La Rosa out for all of 2018.

Diamondbacks' Rubby De La Rosa: Will undergo second TJS
De La Rosa will undergo Tommy John surgery for the second time in his career.
The right-hander first underwent the procedure in 2011. De La Rosa has fleetingly provided fantasy intrigue for his strikeout ability, but he's had trouble limiting walks and -- more pertinently -- staying healthy. This surgery will occur late enough in this season to wonder whether he'll pitch at all in the 2018 season, so perhaps he's best left for deep fantasy consideration in 2019. For what team he'll pitch may be a different matter.

Diamondbacks' Rubby De La Rosa: Optioned to Triple-A
De La Rosa was sent down to Triple-A Reno on Friday.
With Anthony Banda coming up for Friday's start, De La Rosa will take his place in Reno. The reliever has appeared in just nine games for the Diamondbacks this season, posting a 4.70 ERA and 1.43 WHIP in 7.2 innings. It seems likely that De La Rosa will return to the big-league bullpen in the near future.

Diamondbacks' Rubby De La Rosa: Reinstated from DL
De La Rosa was reinstated from the 10-day disabled list Wednesday.
The right-handed reliever was slated to make a final rehab appearance Wednesday, but the team elected to have him return a tad earlier than expected. After missing the better part of July while recovering from shoulder inflammation, De La Rosa will likely slot back in as a middle reliever in the Arizona bullpen, where he posted a 5.40 ERA over just five innings before being sidelined.

Diamondbacks' Rubby De La Rosa: Next rehab appearance to come Wednesday
De La Rosa (shoulder) will make his fourth rehab appearance Wednesday with Triple-A Reno, the Associated Press reports.
It will be the fourth rehab appearance for De La Rosa, who served up three runs (two earned) over an inning of relief in his previous outing Saturday. If De La Rosa is able to turn in a better performance Wednesday, he could be activated from the 10-day disabled list at some point during the Diamondbacks' weekend series with the Cardinals.

Diamondbacks' Rubby De La Rosa: Still waiting on third rehab appearance
De La Rosa (shoulder), who has made two rehab appearances at Triple-A Reno since landing on the 10-day disabled list July 6, didn't pitch for the minor-league affiliate Friday as expected.
With rain falling Friday in Colorado Springs, Reno's game Friday was called following the top of the eighth inning, which may have explained why the left-hander went unused. There's been no indication that De La Rosa experienced any sort of setback with his shoulder, so the expectation is that he'll pitch for Reno at some point this weekend before potentially returning from the disabled list thereafter.

Diamondbacks' Rubby De La Rosa: Will make rehab appearance Saturday
De La Rosa (shoulder) will pitch one inning in a rehab game Saturday with the Diamondbacks' rookie-level club, the Associated Press reports.
De La Rosa hit the 10-day disabled list shortly before the All-Star break with right shoulder inflammation, but it doesn't seem to be a serious concern. While it's possible De La Rosa will require another rehab outing or two beyond Saturday, it shouldn't be long before he rejoins the big club.

Diamondbacks' Rubby De La Rosa: Heads to DL with shoulder inflammation
De La Rosa (shoulder) was placed on the 10-day disabled list Thursday.
The Diamondbacks will replenish their bullpen depth by recalling Jake Barrett in a corresponding move. De La Rosa had been mostly effective since being called up to the Diamondbacks but did suffer one rough outing against the Cardinals that ballooned his ERA to 8.10 before settling down over his next two appearances. The Diamondbacks are officially calling his injury shoulder inflammation, so he'll likely be shut down until the swelling subsides. There figures to be a firmer timetable for his return before the Diamondbacks hit the All-Star break.

Diamondbacks' Rubby De La Rosa: Takes loss after surrendering three-run homer
De La Rosa was charged with the loss Thursday against the Cardinals after giving up three runs on two hits and two walks in one inning.
After dominating in his first three appearances of the season with the big club, De La Rosa ran into some turbulence Thursday that cost the Diamondbacks a series win. After retiring the first two batters of the seventh inning with the Diamondbacks holding a one-run lead, De La Rosa surrendered a double, issued an intentional walk and then served up a three-run homer to Randal Grichuk that proved to be the decisive blow. One poor performance won't prompt manager Torey Lovullo to shy away from using De La Rosa in future high-leverage scenarios, but the loss will nonetheless delay the right-hander's potential move up the bullpen depth chart.

Diamondbacks' Rubby De La Rosa: Looks strong in first three appearances
De La Rosa tossed a perfect eighth inning in Monday's 6-1 win over the Phillies, striking out two batters.
De La Rosa's start to the season was delayed until May while he recovered from stem-cell treatments to address a UCL sprain, but he looks plenty healthy now. After having mostly served as a starter in his last two seasons with the Diamondbacks, De La Rosa will now work exclusively in relief, a role he could thrive in thanks to his premium velocity. He's already ridden his upper-90s fastball to five strikeouts in three appearances with the Diamondbacks, who added him to the 40-man roster after he posted a 23:4 K:BB in 15.1 innings at Triple-A Reno. If De La Rosa can maintain that success over his subsequent games, he could end up settling into a key setup role.
