Sanchez went 1-for-5 with a solo home run and an additional run scored during the Brewers' 9-7 extra-inning loss to the Blue Jays on Tuesday.
Sanchez extended Milwaukee's lead to 4-2 in the seventh inning after he took Braydon Fisher deep to left field for a solo homer. Sanchez has homered in back-to-back games and is up to five long balls on the year, which is tied with Jake Bauers for most on the Brewers. Sanchez has been serving as the team's backup catcher behind William Contreras for most of the season but was the DH against Toronto, and the former should continue to see more playing time until at least mid-May, when Christian Yelich (groin) is estimated to return from the 10-day injured list.

Sanchez didn't start Sunday but was thrust into designated-hitter duties for the Brewers in the bottom of the fifth inning after Christian Yelich (hamstring) was removed from the game. In his second at-bat, the 33-year-old launched his fourth long ball of the season to pull the Brewers back to even after they saw a one-run lead become a three-run deficit just a half-inning prior. Though he's appeared in just nine games and logged 28 plate appearances, Sanchez has been exceptional in the limited sample with a .273/.429/.818 slash line. With the Brewers manager Pat Murphy expressing concern after the game about Yelich's health, Sanchez could be primed to receive more regular playing time if Yelich requires a stint on the injured list.

Sanchez made his first start of the season Sunday at first base as the Brewers opted to sit the lefty-hitting Jake Bauers against White Sox southpaw Anthony Kay, and Sanchez put Milwaukee on the board with a two-run homer in the first inning. Sanchez signed a one-year deal with the Brewers in February after spending the 2025 season with the Orioles, where he appeared in just 30 regular-season games. He could see some regular playing time at first base and behind home plate this season on days where one or both of Bauers and William Contreras are rested or serving as the team's DH.
Sanchez (knee) will DH and bat second in Sunday's spring training game against Kansas City.
Sanchez missed the final months of the 2025 season with a knee injury, but he's seemingly fully recovered from the injury. The veteran catcher returns to Milwaukee after a one-year stint in Baltimore, where he slashed .231/.297/.418 with five home runs, 24 RBI and 13 runs scored across 101 plate appearances. The 33-year-old catcher is slated to back up William Contreras, but could see occasional playing time at DH.

The Brewers signed Sanchez (knee) to a one-year, $1.75 million contract Wednesday, Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports.
Sanchez spent the 2024 season with the Brewers, slashing .220/.307/.392 with 11 home runs over 89 regular-season contests. He was limited to only 29 contests last season with Baltimore due to a knee injury, and it's unclear whether he will have any limitations in camp with Milwaukee. Sanchez should open 2026 as the backup catcher behind William Contreras (finger). He could also see the occasional start at designated hitter versus left-handed pitching.
Interim manager Tony Mansolino said Tuesday that Sanchez (knee) will not return this season, Cordell Woodland of 105.7 The Fan Baltimore reports.
Sanchez hasn't played since July 5 but did begin a rehab assignment earlier this month. However, with Adley Rutschman and Samuel Basallo healthy, it doesn't make much sense to rush Sanchez back in a lost season. Sanchez will wrap up the 2025 campaign with a .231/.297/.418 slash line, five home runs, 24 RBI, 13 runs scored and a 4:27 BB:K across 101 plate appearances. Sanchez turns 33 years old in December and will be a free agent this winter.

Sanchez (knee) is with the team in Baltimore on Friday and will head out on a rehab assignment in five days, Rich Dubroff of BaltimoreBaseball.com reports.
Sanchez has been sidelined since early July due to a sprained right knee, but he's getting close to heading out on a rehab assignment. His current timeline would put him on track to return before the end of the regular season, but he may not have much playing time to come back to if Adley Rutschman (oblique) and Samuel Basallo are healthy.

Orioles' Gary Sanchez: Moves to 60-day IL

The Orioles transferred Sanchez (knee) to the 60-day injured list Friday.
The veteran catcher was ruled out 8-to-10 weeks after being diagnosed with a right knee sprain in early July, so it's not a surprise he eventually made his way to the 60-day IL. Sanchez will be eligible to be reinstated in early September, though it's unclear if he's expected to be available at that point.
