  • Brad Miller: Cut by San Diego

The Padres released Miller on March 13. After agreeing to a minor-league deal with the Padres on March 6, Miller was in camp for just one week and went 0-for-6 with three strikeouts in Cactus League play before being cut loose. The 34-year-old spent the previous season in the Rangers organization, posting a .667 OPS over 67 plate appearances.

  • Padres' Brad Miller: Latches on with San Diego

Miller signed a minor-league contract with the Padres on Tuesday that includes an invitation to spring training, AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reports. Miller slashed a measly .212/.283/.324 over the last two seasons with the Rangers while battling some injuries. The 34-year-old had an .812 OPS across the three seasons prior to that, however, so the Padres will give him a shot to see if he has anything left in the tank. Miller will compete for a reserve role.

  • Rangers' Brad Miller: Moves to 60-day IL

The Rangers transferred Miller (hamstring) to the 60-day injured list Friday. A strained left hamstring forced Miller to the injured list Aug. 2, so his move to the 60-day IL will keep him out through the end of the regular season. Evan Carter was selected from Triple-A Round Rock in a corresponding move and will fill Miller's spot on the 40-man roster.

  • Rangers' Brad Miller: Begins rehab assignment

Miller (hamstring) will begin a rehab assignment Friday with Double-A Frisco. Miller will likely continue the rehab stint through the weekend before returning to the Rangers' active major-league roster early next week. He's been on the injured list since Aug. 2 because of a left hamstring strain.

  • Rangers' Brad Miller: Placed on 10-day IL

Texas placed Miller on the 10-day injured list Wednesday with a left hamstring strain. The good news here is that Corey Seager (thumb) has been activated from the IL in a corresponding roster move and will return to the Rangers' starting lineup Wednesday night against the White Sox. Miller suffered the hamstring strain in Tuesday's win over Chicago and seems likely to be out for at least a couple of weeks.

  • Rangers' Brad Miller: Enters lineup

Miller started at designated hitter and went 2-for-3 with a walk, a double and two runs scored in Sunday's 8-4 win over the Dodgers. Miller made his first start since he was activated from the injured list in late June. The infielder/outfielder has just six plate appearances during that stretch. With both Corey Seager (thumb, IL) and Adolis Garcia (hand) unavailable, Miller could see an uptick in opportunities.

  • Rangers' Brad Miller: Activated from injured list

Texas activated Miller (oblique) from the 10-day injured list Friday. Miller is back to fill a bench role for the Rangers after missing three weeks because of a right oblique strain. The 33-year-old utilityman has slashed just .208/.304/.333 in 22 major-league games (56 plate appearances) this season.

  • Rangers' Brad Miller: Begins rehab

Miller (oblique) started at first base and went 0-for-2 with Triple-A Round Rock on Tuesday. Miller began a rehab assignment by playing five innings with the Express. It's unclear what awaits Miller when he's ready to return to Texas. The utility player made just one start and had a total of 10 plate appearances during the month of May before landing on the injured list May 31.

  • Rangers' Brad Miller: Cleared for rehab games

Miller (oblique) is beginning a rehab assignment Tuesday with Triple-A Round Rock. Miller is nearing the end of his recovery from the right oblique strain that sent him to the injured list June 3, retroactive to May 31. He could be an option again for the Rangers this coming weekend.

  • Rangers' Brad Miller: Goes on IL with oblique strain

Miller was placed on the 10-day injured list Saturday, retroactive to May 31, with a right oblique strain. Miller suffered the injury a few days ago and seems likely to miss at least a couple of weeks. Ezequiel Duran (oblique) has been activated off the IL in a corresponding move and will return to the Rangers' starting lineup Saturday versus the Mariners.

  • Rangers' Brad Miller: Gets rare start

Miller served as the designated hitter and went 0-for-4 in Tuesday's 5-0 loss to Seattle. Miller entered Tuesday's game with just two plate appearances since his previous start April 26. He's part of a rotation in left field and DH that includes Ezequiel Duran, Robbie Grossman, Travis Jankowski (hamstring, IL) and Josh Smith. Duran and Smith have been getting at-bats at shortstop while Corey Seager (hamstring) is on the IL, but Seager starts a rehab assignment this week and could be re-evaluated early next week. That means the two fill-ins at short could become part of the left field/DH mix as early as next Monday.

  • Rangers' Brad Miller: Held out against righty

Miller was held out of Thursday's lineup against right-hander Gerrit Cole of the Yankees. Even with players unavailable at two positions he can handle defensively -- Josh Jung (hand) at third base and Travis Jankowski (hip) in left field -- Miller could not crack the starting nine against Cole. The veteran has taken 44 of his 45 plate appearances this season against righties, but even with the platoon advantage, Miller has one hit over his last 14 at-bats and is batting .184 through 13 games.

  • Rangers' Brad Miller: Losing work versus righties

Miller is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Royals. The lefty-hitting Miller has now started just once in the Rangers' last five games, with three of those four absences from the lineup coming versus right-handed pitchers. The veteran appears to have been displaced as the team's primary designated hitter, with the Rangers instead rotating a number of players between that spot in the lineup while opening up more time in the outfield for the likes of Ezequiel Duran, Josh Smith and Bubba Thompson.

  • Rangers' Brad Miller: Sitting Wednesday

Miller will take a seat Wednesday as the Rangers wrap up their series with the Orioles. Miller will get a breather after he went 1-for-5 with a walk and a strikeout over the first two games of the series. Mitch Garver will draw the start at designated hitter and bat seventh versus Baltimore.

  • Rangers' Brad Miller: Resting versus lefty

Miller is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Phillies. With lefty Bailey Falter taking the hill for Philadelphia in the series finale, the lefty-hitting Miller will bow out of the starting nine. Mitch Garver will replace Miller as the Rangers' designated hitter.

  • Rangers' Brad Miller: In Saturday's lineup

Miller will serve as the designated hitter in Saturday's game against the Phillies. Miller gets a second straight against a right-hander. He popped a home run in Thursday's opener as the DH and should be a lineup regular against righties.

  • Rangers' Brad Miller: Pops Opening Day homer

Miller started at designated hitter and went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in Thursday's 11-7 win over the Phillies. The lefty-hitting Miller slotted into the Opening Day lineup against Philadelphia righty Aaron Nola. The Rangers should rotate players through the DH spot this year as Miller shares the role with catchers Jonah Heim and Mitch Garver, as well as other starters who might need a partial rest day.

  • Rangers' Brad Miller: Launches third HR

Miller went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Saturday's spring game against the Padres. Miller swatted his third spring home run and second in the last three games. As spring training winds down, Miller is in the mix for a bench spot, likely as a designated hitter and a backup at multiple positions. Joining Miller in the competition are Ezequiel Duran and Josh Smith (thumb), players that also have experience in the infield and outfield.

  • Rangers' Brad Miller: Role becomes clearer

After Texas manager Bruce Bochy named Robbie Grossman's the team's primary left fielder, Miller appears destined for a platoon at designated hitter, Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News reports. The lefty-hitting Miller, who had an .831 OPS against right-handed pitching from 2018-21, looks like an ideal complement to the right-handed hitting Grossman (career .698 OPS against righties), but that will not materialize early on. That leaves Miller to pick up any spare at-bats in left field when Grossman isn't in the lineup or sharing DH with catchers Mitch Garver and Jonah Heim. Miller battled a hip injury in 2022, posting a career-worst .590 OPS in 81 games. He could also get squeezed for playing time from Josh Smith, who offers similar positional versatility.

  • Rangers' Brad Miller: Likely to play versus righties

Miller is likely to serve on the strong side of a platoon between left field and designated hitter, Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News reports. Miller was dreadful in his first season with the Rangers, putting up a lowly .590 OPS over 81 games. He dealt with a nagging hip injury and also a neck issue which would seem to at least partly explain his struggles. Miller is healthy now and his track record suggests he should be a solid option against right-handed pitching. He's probably a better fit at DH, but the 33-year-old will be one of a host of competitors for playing time in left field for the Rangers.
