Player Outlook
Carlos Correa enjoyed a homecoming in 2025, as the Twins did him a solid and traded him back to Houston when they decided to start yet another rebuild in Minneapolis. Correa immediately improved his production with a return to Houston, which is nice since he is guaranteed at least three more seasons in Houston with his current contract and potentially more if he can remain healthy and vest future options in his deal. His last stolen base came in April of 2019, so safely ignore any projection that gives him even one stolen base, but he is otherwise a solid, if not unspectacular, four-category contributor in the other areas. His slow foot speed has not hurt him in the field as much as it does on the bases because he has not exceeded 70 runs scored in a season the past three seasons. Houston's dimensions can help Correa once again get to the 20-home run plateau, and a healthy Yordan Alvarez can help create more RBI opportunities for Correa as well. His 2021 homer and RBI totals are within reach here if all goes well with his body and Alvarez's foot this season.

  • Astros' Carlos Correa: Returning Monday

Correa (neck) will resume playing in the Grapefruit League on Monday against the Cardinals, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports. It's worth noting that Correa will be starting at shortstop during his return to play -- something that may become more common while Jeremy Pena sits with a fractured finger. If Pena's absence extends into the regular season, Correa would slide back over to shortstop while Isaac Paredes starts at the hot corner.

  • Astros' Carlos Correa: Will shift to SS if Pena not ready

Astros manager Joe Espada said Friday on Foul Territory that Correa (neck) would move to shortstop if Jeremy Pena (finger) isn't available for Opening Day. Pena's status for the opener hasn't been determined yet, as he will have his fractured right ring finger reevaluated in two weeks. If he requires a trip to the injured list, Correa will slide over to his familiar shortstop position and Isaac Paredes will be installed at third base. Correa is dealing with a minor injury of his own, having been scratched from Friday's Grapefruit League lineup with a stiff neck, but it's not expected to be a long-term concern.

  • Astros' Carlos Correa: Scratched with neck stiffness

Correa was scratched from Friday's Grapefruit League lineup versus the Nationals due to stiffness on the right side of his neck, Matt Kawahara of the Houston Chronicle reports. Astros manager Joe Espada said of Correa that "we'll see how he feels tomorrow," so it's fair to call the veteran infielder day-to-day for now. Correa had been slated to start at third base Friday, but he is a candidate to slide over to shortstop if Jeremy Pena (finger) isn't ready for Opening Day.

  • Astros' Carlos Correa: Sitting out season finale

Correa is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Angels. With Houston having been officially eliminated from playoff contention following Saturday's action, Correa and other key regulars will sit for the season finale. Ramon Urias will step in at third base in place of Correa, who rebounded with a .290/.355/.430 slash line, six home runs, 21 RBI and 23 runs in 51 games with the Astros after being acquired from the Twins on July 31.

  • Twins' Carlos Correa: Not in Wednesday's lineup

Correa (illness) is absent from the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Red Sox. Correa exited Tuesday's 8-5 loss after feeling lightheaded, although it's unclear if that's the reason for his absence from Wednesday's lineup. He is also rumored to be drawing trade interest from the Astros as Thursday's deadline approaches, per Bob Nightengale of USA Today. Brooks Lee will start at shortstop and bat second in Wednesday's series finale.

  • Twins' Carlos Correa: Receiving afternoon off

Correa is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Dodgers. Correa (ankle) will start at shortstop and bat cleanup Sunday against the Pirates. • Twins' Carlos Correa: Not starting Saturday

Correa (ankle) isn't in the lineup for Saturday's game against Pittsburgh. Correa was diagnosed with a mild sprain in his right ankle after getting hit by a sliding Tommy Pham during Friday's game. It remains to be seen whether his injury will require an IL stint, but it will at least keep him on the sidelines Saturday. Brooks Lee will shift to shortstop to cover for Correa, putting Kody Clemens at second base while Ty France starts at first.
