  • Rangers' Andrew Heaney: Handed 14th loss

Heaney (5-14) took the loss Sunday against the Mariners, allowing three runs on seven hits and a walk while striking out three over five innings. All three runs against Heaney came in the opening frame when Mitch Garver crushed a first-pitch fastball out to center field. Heaney had to work around some traffic on the bases in the second, third and fifth innings but ultimately held the Mariners scoreless after the three-run first. The seven hits allowed were the most by Heaney since he allowed seven on July 26 and he's now given up a home run in back-to-back starts. He's also lost to Seattle in all three meetings this year. For the season, Heaney owns a 3.89 ERA, 1.21 WHIP and 152:40 K:BB in 150.1 innings. He lines up to face the Mariners again at home over the weekend.

  • Rangers' Andrew Heaney: Collects fifth win

Heaney (5-13) allowed four runs (three earned) on three hits and a walk while striking out eight over six-plus innings to earn the win over the Angels on Sunday. Heaney yielded a three-run home run to Charles Leblanc in the fourth inning and allowed the first batter of the seventh to reach on an error. Jose Leclerc let that runner score, but the Rangers were able to hold their lead, allowing Heaney to secure his first win since July 21. The veteran southpaw is now at a 3.84 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and 149:39 K:BB over 145.1 innings over 29 appearances (28 starts) this season. He's projected to make his next start at Seattle.

  • Rangers' Andrew Heaney: Tames Yankees in no-decision

Heaney allowed three hits and a walk while striking out eight over five scoreless innings in a no-decision versus the Yankees on Tuesday. Heaney pitched well in a tough matchup, throwing 54 of 86 pitches for strikes. He's kept runs off the board in three of his last nine appearances, and this was the third time in four outings he struck out eight batters. The southpaw is now at a 3.81 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and 141:38 K:BB through 139.1 innings over 28 appearances (27 starts). Heaney's next start is projected to be at home versus the Angels. With news of Jon Gray (foot) and Tyler Mahle (shoulder) being shut down for the year, Heaney is likely to finish the campaign as a starter.

  • Rangers' Andrew Heaney: Effective over five innings

Heaney allowed a run on five hits and a walk while striking out two over five innings in a no-decision in the Rangers' 3-1 victory over the White Sox in a game that was suspended Tuesday and completed Wednesday. Heaney allowed one run or zero in three of his five outings in August, including each of his last two appearances. He was able to pitch Wednesday as he didn't get an opportunity to pitch prior to the game getting suspended in the top of the first inning Tuesday. Heaney is now at a 3.95 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and 133:37 K:BB over 134.1 innings through 27 starts this season. The southpaw threw 71 pitches (44 strikes) Wednesday, and while his spot in the rotation would come up for a home start versus the Athletics on Sunday, it's possible the Rangers will use a spot starter to keep Heaney on regular rest. If that happens, he'd be pushed back a day into a much tougher matchup at home versus the Yankees.

  • Rangers' Andrew Heaney: Five scoreless frames vs. Pirates

Heaney allowed five hits and a walk over five scoreless innings in a no-decision Wednesday against Pittsburgh. He struck out eight. It was a strong rebound effort from Heaney after the southpaw surrendered seven earned runs over nine innings in his previous two starts. However, Heaney failed to come away with a win, as the Rangers couldn't get a run across until the bottom of the ninth. Overall, Heaney's 4-13 on the year with a 4.04 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and 131:36 K:BB across 129.1 innings. He'll look to build on Wednesday's outing in his next start, which projects as an enticing road matchup against the White Sox.

  • Rangers' Andrew Heaney: Stuck with 13th loss

Heaney (4-13) yielded four runs on five hits and a walk over 4.1 innings Friday, striking out eight and taking a loss against Minnesota. The big blow against Heaney came when Carlos Santana took him deep for a three-run shot in the fifth inning. The veteran southpaw is now 0-3 with a brutal 6.66 ERA over his last five starts, and he has just one win since the start of July. Heaney owns a 4.20 ERA with a 123:35 K:BB through 124.1 innings this season. His next start is lined up to come at home against the Pirates.

  • Rangers' Andrew Heaney: Handed 12th loss

Heaney (4-12) took the loss Sunday against the Yankees after he gave up four runs (three earned) on five hits and two walks over 4.2 innings. He struck out four. The left-hander labored throughout the contest and had given up two runs through his first four frames, but he departed with runners on the corners with two outs in the fifth inning and had those baserunners added to his tally when Giancarlo Stanton clubbed a three-run homer off Jose Leclerc. It's the second time in Heaney's past three starts that he's failed to complete five innings, and he's surrendered 10 runs (nine earned) between those two short outings. He has a 4.05 ERA, 1.23 WHIP and 115:34 K:BB across 120 innings this season and tentatively lines up for a matchup with Minnesota this weekend.

  • Rangers' Andrew Heaney: Sputters in St. Louis

Heaney (4-11) took the loss against the Cardinals on Wednesday, allowing six runs on six hits and one walk while striking out two batters over 4.1 innings. Heaney yielded a tolerable seven baserunners, but six of them came around to score. The southpaw surrendered three runs on three hits and a walk in the second inning, then gave up a hit to three of the four batters he faced in the fifth, with each of those baserunners eventually coming around to score. The six total runs tied a season-worst mark for Heaney, who had been pitching pretty well coming into Wednesday, posting a 2.78 ERA over his previous six starts. The veteran hurler will look to bounce back in his next start, which is tentatively slated to be at home against Houston.

  • Rangers' Andrew Heaney: Gives up four runs in no-decision

Heaney didn't factor into the decision Friday against the Blue Jays, allowing four runs on seven hits and a walk over five innings. He struck out four. Most of the damage against Heaney came early Friday, as Toronto scored three times on a pair of doubles in the first inning. It's the first time since April 25 that Heaney's been charged with more than three earned runs in a start -- he'd posted a 2.81 ERA in his last 15 outings prior to Friday. Overall, the left-hander is 4-10 this year with a 3.77 ERA, 1.26 WHIP and 105:30 K:BB across 105 innings. Heaney's currently in line to face the Cardinals on the road in his next start, assuming the Rangers don't make a move to shake up their rotation before next week's trade deadline.

  • Rangers' Andrew Heaney: Earns fourth win

Heaney (4-10) allowed two hits and three walks over five scoreless innings Sunday, striking out four and picking up a win over the Orioles. Heaney wasn't overly efficient and needed 100 pitches to get through five frames. Still, he kept the Orioles off the board. The southpaw's allowed three or fewer earned runs in 15 consecutive starts since the start of May. During that span, he's gone 4-7 with an impressive 2.81 ERA and 79:20 K:BB. On the year, Heaney owns a 3.60 ERA through 100 frames. His next outing is expected to come in Toronto.

  • Rangers' Andrew Heaney: Hits double digits in loss column

Heaney (3-10) took the loss Friday, giving up three runs (two earned) on five hits and two walks over five innings as the Rangers fell 6-3 to the Astros. He struck out five. The veteran southpaw has been one of the unluckiest pitchers in the majors this season. Heaney hasn't allowed more than three earned runs in an outing since late April, posting a 3.00 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and 75:17 K:BB over his last 72 innings, but due to a lack of support from his offense and bullpen, he has just a 3-7 record to show for it. Heaney's in the final year of his current contract, and if Texas elects to become sellers at the trade deadline -- the defending World Series champs are six games under .500 and 7.5 games back of the final wild-card spot in the AL -- a change of scenery could be in store for the lefty.

  • Rangers' Andrew Heaney: Blanks Tampa in no-decision

Heaney came away with a no-decision in Saturday's 4-3 win over the Rays, allowing three hits and two walks over 5.1 scoreless innings. He struck out seven. The veteran lefty continued a surge that began when the calendar flipped to June. Heaney has given up three runs or less in seven straight starts, delivering a 2.95 ERA, 1.08 WHIP and 46:10 K:BB through 39.2 innings over that stretch -- ratios very reminiscent of his 2022 breakout with the Dodgers. Heaney will look to stay sharp in his next outing, which lines up for a Lone Star Series clash with the Astros in Houston next weekend.

  • Rangers' Andrew Heaney: Dominates Orioles on Sunday night

Heaney (3-9) got the win Sunday against the Orioles, allowing two runs on five hits and no walks while striking out 10 over seven innings. Heaney had his most dominant start of the season, compiling double-digit strikeouts for the first time since he had 11 back in August of 2023. Sunday was also just the second time since May 11 that he's managed to not give up a walk. The Orioles pushed runs across in both the second and fourth innings but otherwise did not threaten and Heaney finished strong by striking out the side in the seventh. He's now allowed three earned runs or less in each of his last 12 starts. His record is deceiving due to the fact that the Rangers had scored a total of 30 runs in his first 15 starts this season. The 33-year-old southpaw will carry a 4.04 ERA, 1.26 WHIP and 85:22 K:BB (84.2 innings) into a start against the Rays over the weekend.

  • Rangers' Andrew Heaney: Loses again

Heaney (2-9) took the loss Tuesday against Milwaukee, allowing two runs on six hits and two walks over five innings. He struck out four. Heaney fell to his ninth loss of 2024, a total that only trails Dakota Hudson. However, seven of those losses have come despite Heaney allowing three or fewer earned runs, a result of inconsistent defense and a Rangers offensive attack that's underwhelmed compared to expectations. Still, Heaney has been a reliable option since the start of May, owning a 3.26 ERA and a 49:11 K:BB in 49.2 innings. The lefty is tentatively scheduled to start Sunday at Baltimore.

  • Rangers' Andrew Heaney: Fans nine in no-decision

Heaney allowed three runs on four hits and two walks while striking out nine batters over six innings in a no-decision against the Mets on Wednesday. Heaney induced 15 swinging strikes in the outing, helping him reach a season-high nine punchouts. The left-hander's strong start was somewhat spoiled by a Pete Alonso two-run homer in the sixth, but Heaney still completed that frame to finish with his fourth quality start of the campaign. The veteran hurler is just 2-8 on the season, but he's offered some stability at the back of Texas' rotation by giving up three or fewer earned runs in each of his past 10 appearances, posting a 3.26 ERA across 49.2 frames during that span.

  • Rangers' Andrew Heaney: Takes eighth loss

Heaney (2-8) allowed three runs on six hits and three walks while striking out four over 4.2 innings to take the loss versus the Mariners on Friday. Heaney gave up a two-run home run to Mitch Garver in the first inning, his fifth homer allowed over his last seven appearances. This was the shortest of Heaney's three starts in June so far. The veteran southpaw is at a 4.19 ERA, 1.32 WHIP and 62:18 K:BB through 66.2 innings across 14 appearances (13 starts) this season. It's unclear how he'll be utilized going forward -- he may lose his place in the rotation soon since Jon Gray returned from a groin injury last weekend and Max Scherzer (back/arm) could be back by the end of the month. Jose Urena, who pitched 3.1 scoreless innings of relief Friday, could also be a short-term option in the rotation if the Rangers grow tired of Heaney's inconsistency.

  • Rangers' Andrew Heaney: Falls to San Francisco

Heaney (2-7) took the loss Saturday against the Giants, allowing three runs on five hits and a walk over 5.2 innings. He struck out five. All three of the runs charged to Heaney came off the bat of Heliot Ramos -- the outfielder opened the scoring with a double in the first inning before adding a two-run homer in the third. The 33-year-old Heaney had earned wins in his previous two appearances (one in relief), delivering 8.1 scoreless innings in that span. Overall, he sports a 4.06 ERA with a 1.27 WHIP and 58:15 K:BB across 62 innings this season. Heaney is currently lined up for a road start next week in Seattle, though he could find himself back in the bullpen due to Jon Gray returning from the IL.

  • Rangers' Andrew Heaney: Stumps Marlins

Heaney (2-6) picked up the win Sunday against Miami, allowing four hits and no walks across six scoreless innings. He struck out seven. Heaney generated his second consecutive win Sunday and turned in his first scoreless outing of 2024 as a starter. The lefty has settled in after stumbling to a 6.26 ERA over five starts in April, owning a 2.43 ERA and 31 strikeouts across 33.1 innings since May 1. Heaney is tentatively scheduled for a home start against the Giants next Sunday.

  • Rangers' Andrew Heaney: Picks up win in relief

Heaney (1-6) earned the win in Tuesday's 4-2 victory over the Diamondbacks, allowing two hits and a walk while striking out one over 2.1 scoreless innings of relief. Heaney essentially piggybacked Nathan Eovaldi, who was returning from a four-week absence with a groin strain. Heaney's last two starts have both been under four innings, so it's possible the Rangers are preparing him for a bullpen role once their rotation is healthier. In the short term, Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News reports that Heaney could be deployed as a long reliever again later in the week due to the schedule giving the Rangers two off days this week. Texas hasn't released its projected starters for this weekend's series at Miami, so it's unclear when Heaney may pitch or start again.

  • Rangers' Andrew Heaney: Remains winless

Heaney (0-5) allowed three runs (two earned) on five hits and two walks over 3.2 innings Friday, striking out five and taking a loss against the Angels. Heaney yielded one unearned run through three innings before serving up a two-run shot to Zach Neto in the fourth. Heaney needed 83 pitches to record just 11 outs, tying his shortest outing of 2024. He's completed at least six innings in three of his nine starts and is still searching for his first win over the year. Heaney will carry a 4.43 ERA into his next matchup, which is lined up to come in Philadelphia next week.
