  • Astros' Josh Hader: Picks up sixth save

Hader allowed a hit in a scoreless ninth inning to earn the save in Saturday's 3-2 victory over the Padres. He did not strike out or walk a batter. Hader failed to record a strikeout for just the second time this season, but he still threw 11 of his 15 pitches for strikes en route to his sixth save in as many chances this year. After giving up a run Opening Day, the left-hander has an 11:1 K:BB across 10 scoreless frames in his past eight outings.

  • Astros' Josh Hader: Locks down fifth save

Hader struck out one in a perfect ninth inning Friday to record his fifth save of the season in a 6-4 win over the Padres. The southpaw closer needed 10 pitches (seven strikes) to mow down San Diego's 9-1-2 hitters. Hader has looked like his usual dominant self to begin 2025, converting all five of his save chances and posting a 0.90 ERA, 0.60 WHIP and 13:2 K:BB through 10 innings.

  • Astros' Josh Hader: Quickly nets fourth save Tuesday

Hader picked up the save Tuesday against the Cardinals after throwing a clean ninth inning. He struck out one. Hader quickly dispatched St. Louis on just 10 pitches (seven strikes), getting Jordan Walker to chase a slider for the final out of the contest. The hard-throwing left-hander has been electric to the tune of a 1.00 ERA, 0.67 WHIP and 12:2 K:BB through nine innings while converting each of his first four save opportunities.

  • Astros' Josh Hader: Another scoreless outing

Hader allowed two hits and struck out one in a scoreless ninth inning Sunday against the Angels. Hader had a four-run lead, but he hadn't pitched since Tuesday, so he entered the game in a non-save situation. He allowed a pair of singles but still managed to record his fifth straight scoreless appearance. Hader hasn't recorded a save since April 3, but that hasn't been a result of his performance.

  • Astros' Josh Hader: Notches win in extras

Hader (1-0) tossed two perfect innings, striking out three batters on his way to a win in Sunday's 9-7 extra-inning victory over the Twins. Hader was tasked with keeping the game tied at 7-7 in the bottom of the ninth inning, setting the Twins down in order, including a strikeout. He then returned to the mound for the bottom of the 10th after Houston took a 9-7 lead in the top of the frame and worked around the inherited runner at second to secure his first win of the year. Hader has now allowed one run on two hits and two walks while striking out six batters over five innings in four appearances out of the bullpen this season.

Hader picked up the save in Thursday's 5-2 win over Minnesota, striking out one in a perfect ninth inning. Hader is now 3-for-3 in save opportunities to start the year -- he's allowed one run while striking out three over three innings. • Astros' Josh Hader: More efficient in second save

Hader walked one batter in a scoreless ninth inning Saturday to record the save in a 2-1 win over the Mets. Hader was shaky in his first save opportunity Opening Day, and he got off on the wrong foot Saturday when he walked Juan Soto on six pitches. Hader was able to steady himself by getting Pete Alonso to pop out on the first pitch, and the southpaw closer was able to cruise through the final two batters to earn his second save of the season. Hader is already on track to log a fifth consecutive 30-save season, and he'll look to earn his third of the year during the upcoming three-game home series against the Giants starting Monday.

  • Astros' Josh Hader: Escapes with Opening Day save

Hader earned the save Thursday after giving up one run on two hits and one walk in the ninth inning to close out a 3-1 win against the Mets. He struck out two. Entering the ninth inning up three runs, Hader found himself in immediate trouble after giving up back-to-back singles before allowing a walk to load up the bases. He steadied himself by punching out Hayden Senger, and after giving up a sacrifice fly to Francisco Lindor, Hader managed to close things out by striking out Juan Soto. It took Hader 35 pitches to come away with the Opening Day save, which will affect his availability out of the bullpen Friday and potentially Saturday.

  • Astros' Josh Hader: Makes minor adjustments

Hader worked this offseason on limiting his movements before his windup in an effort to not tip his pitches, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports. Houston failed to make the ALCS for the first time in eight years, with Hader giving up a three-run double to Andy Ibanez as the Tigers were able to break open Game 2 of the American League Wild Card Series and eliminate the Astros early. During the regular season, Hader logged a 3.80 ERA, 0.96 WHIP, 105 strikeouts and 34 saves in 71 innings. In addition to trying to cut down on any pre-windup tells, Hader said he is working on making his changeup a bigger part of his arsenal, although that's something he's wanted to do for years, by his own admission, so it's too early to say this will actually be the year he can rely on anything besides his sinker and slider. Regardless of whether he has a more reliable third pitch, Hader should once again rank near the top of the majors in saves and strikeouts among relievers.

Hader struck out three over 1.1 perfect innings to earn the save in Tuesday's 4-3 win over the Mariners. He's been scored on in five of his last 13 outings and now has a 3.60 ERA, 0.93 WHIP and 104:24 K:BB with 34 saves in 38 chances over 70 innings this season.

  • Astros' Josh Hader: Records 32nd save

Hader picked up the save in a win over the Angels on Thursday, striking out one over a perfect ninth inning. Hader entered the contest with a two-run lead in the bottom of the ninth and fanned Logan O'Hoppe on three sliders before needing just four pitches to retire the final two batters. It was the southpaw's 32nd save of the campaign and he's now recorded at least one strikeout in six consecutive appearances. It was also a nice bounce-back performance for Hader after being charged with his third blown save of the campaign in his previous outing. He now carries a 2.57 ERA in September to go along with a 9:2 K:BB and three saves.

Hader inherited a bases-loaded situation with one out and let all three inherited runners score, but he was able to avoid a total collapse. Caleb Ferguson was charged with all three runs, so Hader was able to log his third scoreless outing over five appearances in September. The closer has 31 saves in 33 chances this year while pitching to a 3.32 ERA, 0.92 WHIP and 96:22 K:BB through 65 innings.

The veteran closer picked up his first save in September to notch 30 in a season for the fifth time in his career. Hader is having a bit of a bumpy finish to the regular season, getting tagged for at least one run in four of his last seven appearances, but on the season he still sports a 3.36 ERA, 0.92 WHIP and dominant 38.2 percent strikeout rate. The 30-year-old sits just five saves away from 200 for his career, a mark he could still reach with a hot couple weeks to wrap up 2024.

  • Astros' Josh Hader: Stuck with loss Monday

Hader (6-7) took the loss Monday, allowing an unearned run on a hit and a walk in an inning-plus of relief as the Astros fell 3-2 to the Phillies in 10 innings. He struck out three. The fireballing closer struck out the side in the ninth inning to preserve a 2-2 tie, but when Hader came out to begin the 10th, a walk to Trea Turner was following by a walk-off single by Bryce Harper. Hader has still gone the entire month of August without giving up an earned run, and over his last 12 appearances he sports a 0.00 ERA, 0.65 WHIP and 15:5 K:BB in 12.1 innings. The southpaw needs two more saves to record his fifth 30-save campaign, and he sits seven short of 200 for his career.

Hader is now working on 11 straight scoreless appearances dating back to July 31. He's allowed just two hits and has posted a 12:4 K:BB while picking up eight saves over that span. He's sitting tied for fifth in baseball with 28 saves to compliment a 3.30 ERA, 0.91 WHIP and 84:19 K:BB in 57.1 innings this season.
