Phillies' Jake Thompson: Signs minors deal with Philly
Thompson signed a minor-league contract Tuesday with the Phillies, Matt Gelb of The Athletic reports.
Thompson was cut loose from the Red Sox organization in May after struggling to a 5.40 ERA, 2.00 WHIP and 6:5 K:BB through 10 innings of relief this season at Triple-A Worcester. The 28-year-old right-hander will join up with the Phillies' Double-A affiliate in Reading.

Jake Thompson: Inks minors deal with Philly
Thompson signed a minor-league contract Tuesday with the Phillies, Matt Gelb of The Athletic reports.
This is a reunion of sorts, as Thompson spent parts of four seasons in the Phillies organization between 2015-2018. The 29-year-old right-hander was most recently working out of the rotation for Leones de Yucatan in the Mexican League. He'll head to Double-A Reading.

Angels' Jake Thompson: Gets chance with Halos
Thompson agreed to a minor-league contract with the Angels earlier this month, Chris Hilburn-Trenkle of Baseball America reports.
Thompson will join the Halos for spring training after an underwhelming 2019. He opened the past season with the Lotte Giants of the KBO League before being cut by the South Korean club and latching on with the Tigers on a minor-league deal. Thompson was at least able to end his campaign on a high note with an eight-inning, 13-strikeout performance for Double-A Erie on Aug. 30, so the Angels will presumably give him a look this spring and determine if he's a viable rotation option for their Pacific Coast or Southern League affiliates.

Tigers' Jake Thompson: Returns to affiliated ball
Thompson signed a minor-league contract with the Tigers on Thursday and was assigned to High-A Lakeland.
After transitioning to a full-time relief role last spring, Thompson failed to find much success at the Triple-A Toledo or major-league level across stints in the Phillies and Brewers organizations. Upon hitting free agency after the 2018 season, Thompson opted to head to the Korea Baseball Organization, where he posted a 4.74 ERA and 1.23 WHIP in 62.2 innings before being released in June. He'll now return stateside for work, joining the organization that originally selected him in the second round of the 2012 first-year player draft.

Jake Thompson: Finds work in Korea
Thompson agreed to a one-year, $900,000 deal with the Lotte Giants of the Korea Baseball Organization on Thursday, Dan Kurtz of MyKBO.net reports.
Thompson's transition to a full-time relief role last season didn't go as well as hoped, as he put up a 4.96 ERA and 1.53 WHIP over nine appearances for the Phillies before being designated for assignment in August. He latched on with the Brewers soon after but never appeared at the big-league level before he was dropped from their 40-man roster. Since Thompson wasn't likely to garner anything more than a minor-league deal had he remained stateside, he'll opt for greater financial security by going overseas in 2019. Still just 24 years old, Thompson has plenty of time left to resurface in the big leagues down the road.

Brewers' Jake Thompson: Designated for assignment
Thompson was designated for assignment by the Brewers on Friday.
The move frees up a spot on the team's 40-man roster for Gio Gonzalez, who was acquired from the Nationals via trade Friday. Thompson has appeared solely for Triple-A Colorado Springs since joining the Brewers, posting a shiny 1.69 ERA across 5.1 innings before being DFA'd. He'll likely report back to the SkySox if he passes through waivers untouched.

The 24-year-old compiled a 4.96 ERA across 16.1 innings of relief with the Phillies this season while posting a 4.60 ERA across 47 innings with Triple-A Lehigh Valley. He'll report to Triple-A Colorado Springs for now.

Phillies' Jake Thompson: Sent back to minors
The Phillies optioned Thompson to Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Thursday.
Thompson lost his spot on the active roster after the Phillies acquired Aaron Loup from the Blue Jays and activated Adam Morgan from the paternity list. After working almost exclusively as a starter for the Phillies in 2017, Thompson has transitioned to a bullpen role this season but hasn't noticed a dramatic improvement in his results. Over nine appearances at the big-league level this season, Thompson has yielded nine earned runs on 14 hits and 11 walks over 16.1 innings.

Phillies' Jake Thompson: Sent back to Triple-A
Thompson was optioned to Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Wednesday.
Thompson continues to live the life of the reliever with options, being sent down for the fifth time this season. He made just one appearance this time around with the Phillies, tossing three key scoreless innings in Sunday's extra-innings win over the Nationals. Expect him to return periodically throughout the season in a low-leverage role.

Phillies' Jake Thompson: Grabs one-out save
Thompson needed just one pitch to record one out and record the save in Sunday's 10-9 win over the Brewers.
It was Thompson's second save of the season and his first since early April. Hector Neris was rocked for four runs in the ninth before Thompson was able to save the day. Thompson owns an ugly 7.00 ERA with nine strikeouts in nine innings this season. Even with Neris struggling, Thompson likely won't gain a relevant spot in the Phillies' committee, especially with the way Seranthony Dominguez is throwing.

Phillies' Jake Thompson: Back in big leagues
Thompson was recalled from Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Saturday.
Thompson has an ugly 7.27 ERA in 8.2 innings at the big-league level this season, though his 2.40 FIP indicates that there's been a lot of bad luck in that small sample. He's been uninspiring in 31.1 Triple-A innings, however, posting a 5.17 ERA. He and Yacksiel Rios will fill low-leverage roles in the Phillies' bullpen, with Mark Leiter being optioned and Luis Garcia (wrist) hitting the disabled list.

Phillies' Jake Thompson: Sent to Triple-A
Thompson was optioned to Triple-A Lehigh Valley after Sunday's game against the Mets.
He was not used out of the bullpen after being recalled earlier in the week, and apparently the Phillies no longer need his services. Thompson's outlook is not promising, as he has been unsuccessful as a starter at Triple-A and as a big-league reliever. His control has been particularly poor at both stops this season (13 walks in 22.2 innings).
