Nationals' Nomar Mazara: Inks minors deal with Nats
Mazara signed a minor-league contract Friday with the Nationals.
Mazara was in camp with the Orioles this spring before getting cut loose March 27. He has picked a good landing spot in Washington and has a solid chance of getting back to a semi-regular role at the MLB level. The 27-year-old outfielder will report to Triple-A Rochester for now.

Nomar Mazara: Released by Baltimore
Mazara was released by the Orioles on Monday, Steve Melewski of MASNSports.com reports.
Mazara wasn't going to make the Opening Day roster and exercised his opt-out. The 27-year-old hasn't hit much this spring or at the major-league level for a few years now, so he'll probably have to settle for a minor-league contract wherever he winds up.

Orioles' Nomar Mazara: Joining Orioles' camp
Mazara signed a minor-league deal with the Orioles on Tuesday, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports.
Mazara is still just 27 years old and should theoretically be at his peak, but it's been several seasons since he's held down a regular role. He appeared in 55 games for the Padres last season, hitting a modest .264/.316/.352 with two home runs. Mazara's career 89 wRC+ simply isn't good enough for him to be a starting corner outfielder, but it's just passable enough that he could continue to bounce around in a bench role. The Orioles would represent his fifth team in five seasons if he manages to make an appearance.

Nomar Mazara: Becomes free agent
The Padres released Mazara on Tuesday.
Mazara cleared waivers after the Padres designated him for assignment over the weekend, but rather than sticking around in the organization at Triple-A El Paso, he'll seek out opportunities elsewhere. Prior to losing his spot on the 40-man roster and 26-man active roster, Mazara saw action in 55 games for the Friars and slashed .264/.316/.352 with two home runs and 18 RBI across 171 plate appearances.

Padres' Nomar Mazara: Loses 40-man spot
Mazara was designated for assignment by the Padres on Saturday.
After losing his spot as a regular starter in the outfield and going hitless in just six plate appearances since Aug. 3, Mazara has now lost his spot on the 40-man and 26-man rosters. Mazara has a batting average of .264 on the season and his highest OPS since 2019 (.668), so it is possible that he gets claimed off waivers by another team.

Padres' Nomar Mazara: Loses out on everyday role
Mazara remains out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Dodgers.
Mazara will sit for the fifth game in a row, and his time as a regular player for San Diego appears to be over after the Padres recently acquired Juan Soto to take over as their everyday right fielder. Since Mazara doesn't bring much defensive value to the table and isn't a platoon option as a left-handed hitter, it wouldn't be surprising if he was ultimately moved off the active roster. Over 167 plate appearances with the big club this season, Mazara has slashed .271/.323/.361 with two home runs and 18 RBI.

Padres' Nomar Mazara: On bench versus lefty
Mazara is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Dodgers.

The righty-hitting Jose Azocar will replace Mazara in right field, and the two should continue to form a platoon at the position until Wil Myers (knee) is ready to return from the 10-day injured list.
