  Turner went 2-for-4 with two doubles and two RBI in Thursday's Grapefruit League game against Toronto. Turner finally broke out of his spring slump a bit, but he's still gone just 4-for-24 (.167) with a trio of doubles and RBI over nine Grapefruit League contests thus far. It's not yet settled if Turner will open the season batting first or second in Philadelphia's lineup, but he's all set to reprise his role as the Phillies' everyday shortstop in 2026 either way. Last year, the All-Star shortstop recorded 36 stolen bases, his most since 2018, while hitting .304 with 15 homers, 69 RBI and 94 runs scored and over 589 regular-season at-bats.

• Phillies' Trea Turner: Off injured list

Turner has been sidelined since Sept. 8 due to a strained right hamstring, but he'll rejoin the active roster for Philadelphia's regular-season finale. The Phillies are already locked in as the National League's No. 2 seed, so there aren't any stakes for Sunday's game against Minnesota. However, the contest presents an opportunity for Turner to shake off some rust before the NLDS. Max Lazar was optioned to the Phillies' rookie-level affiliate in a corresponding move.

  Phillies manager Rob Thomson said Thursday that Turner (hamstring) will not be activated from the 10-day injured list Friday, and he's not sure whether the shortstop will return at any point during the weekend series versus the Twins, Scott Lauber of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports. The good news is Turner had another good workout Thursday and Thomson is adamant that his starting shortstop will be ready for Game 1 of the NLDS on Oct. 4. Ideally, Turner will be back at some point this weekend in order to knock rust off before the playoffs, but the primary goal is to have him ready for the postseason. He's been sidelined for much of September with a Grade 1 right hamstring strain.

Turner is not with the team in Los Angeles on Monday for the start of their road trip, and the Phillies hope the star shortstop will return to action before the regular-season finale on Sept. 28 against Minnesota. Philadelphia won't travel back home until the Sept. 23 contest versus the Marlins, so Turner, who's nursing a Grade 1 right hamstring strain, appears unlikely to make his way back into the lineup for at least another week.

Though the injury Turner sustained in Sunday's loss to the Marlins appears likely to keep him out for longer than the minimum 10 days, Thomson noted that the hamstring issue is less severe than the Grade 2 strain that the three-time All-Star suffered a season ago, and the Phillies are hoping that he'll be ready to return before the start of the postseason. Edmundo Sosa is expected to serve as the primary replacement at shortstop while Turner is on the shelf; Sosa will occupy the position and will bat eighth in Monday's series opener with the Mets.
