  • Brent Honeywell: Non-tendered by Dodgers

The Dodgers non-tendered Honeywell on Friday, Jack Harris of the Los Angeles Times reports. Honeywell ended the 2024 regular season on the Dodgers' 15-day injured list due to a cracked right fingernail, but he was added to the NLCS roster against the Mets. Honeywell made three postseason appearances, allowing nine earned runs on nine hits and three walks across 8.2 innings. The 29-year-old will enter free agency and look to sign with a team in need of right-handed depth out of the bullpen.

  • Dodgers' Brent Honeywell: Comes off IL, added to NLCS roster

Honeywell (finger) is part of Los Angeles' roster for the NLCS versus the Mets, Mike DiGiovanna of the Los Angeles Times reports. Honeywell ended the campaign on the 15-day injured list due to a cracked fingernail, but the issue appears to have since been resolved. The right-hander played in 18 games for the Dodgers during the regular season, posting a 2.62 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and 17:9 K:BB over 34.1 innings while picking up a win, a save and a hold. Honeywell will take the roster spot of lefty reliever Alex Vesia, who is sidelined due to a rib cage injury.

  • Dodgers' Brent Honeywell: Suffers cracked fingernail

Honeywell was placed on the 15-day injured list Thursday due to a cracked right fingernail. Honeywell has pitched 37.2 innings split between time with the Pirates and Dodgers. He's been effective in a low-leverage role since his most recent promotion Aug. 31, maintaining a 3.21 ERA and 1.00 WHIP across 14 innings.

  • Dodgers' Brent Honeywell: Picks up first win in relief

Honeywell (1-1) picked up the win over the Guardians on Saturday, allowing one hit over two scoreless innings in relief. Honeywell was one of seven pitchers used by the Dodgers on Saturday, coming in to close out the final two innings as the team cruised to a 7-2 win at home. The right-hander retired six of the seven batters he faced over those two frames en route to earning his first win of the campaign. Honeywell had allowed at least one run in three consecutive appearances coming in, and Saturday also marked the first time in his last four outings that he didn't issue a walk.

  • Dodgers' Brent Honeywell: Cast off 40-man roster

The Dodgers designated Honeywell for assignment Sunday. Honeywell was claimed off waivers by the Dodgers on July 13 after being DFA'd by the Pirates one day earlier. In his 10 outings with the Dodgers, Honeywell picked up one save while logging a 2.21 ERA and 1.18 WHIP across 20.1 innings. The 29-year-old could garner some interest on the waiver wire from a team in need of right-handed depth out of the bullpen. In a corresponding move, the Dodgers selected the contract of right-hander Ben Casparius from Triple-A Oklahoma City.

  • Dodgers' Brent Honeywell: Grabs save Thursday

Honeywell picked up the save Thursday against the Giants, allowing one hit and no walks with a strikeout across a scoreless inning. Honeywell was claimed off waivers by the Dodgers on July 13 and had fired seven scoreless innings leading up to Thursday's save chance. Interestingly, Daniel Hudson and Evan Phillips -- the Dodgers' primary ninth-inning options -- pitched the sixth and seventh, leaving Honeywell to snare his first save of 2024. It's unclear if Honeywell will be in line for more save chances going forward, but Phillips has struggled in his past 10 outings with four homers allowed and a 9.35 ERA.

  • Dodgers' Brent Honeywell: Impressive in team debut

Honeywell allowed one hit over three shutout frames during the Dodgers' loss to Detroit on Sunday. He struck out two batters. Honeywell was scooped off waivers by the Dodgers on Saturday and was thrown right into action. He was efficient, throwing 24 of 36 pitches for strikes and retiring the first eight batters he faced. With all the injuries the Dodgers are dealing with in the pitching staff right now, Honeywell could continue working as a multi-inning opener or bulk relief option. He's given up one run in 6.1 innings this season with the Dodgers and Pirates.

  • Dodgers' Brent Honeywell: Getting start in bullpen day

Honeywell will get the start for the Dodgers in Sunday's game against the Pirates in what's expected to be a bullpen day, Bill Plunkett of The Orange County Register reports. After being claimed off waivers from the Pirates on Saturday, Honeywell was formally added to the 26-man active roster ahead of Sunday's series finale. He'll step into a prominent role right away for his Dodgers debut, as he'll be making his first big-league start since 2021. According to Plunkett, manager Dave Roberts said Honeywell is built up to handle about 40 pitches, so the Dodgers will presumably hope to get around two or three innings out of him before turning the game over to the bullpen. Honeywell will likely shift to a long-relief role coming out of the All-Star break.

  • Dodgers' Brent Honeywell: Joins Dodgers

The Dodgers claimed Honeywell off waivers Saturday, Mark Feinsand of MLB.com reports. Honeywell was DFA'd by Pittsburgh on Friday and it didn't take long for him to land with a new organization. Los Angeles will need to clear a spot on the 40-man roster, though a corresponding transaction has not yet been announced. Honeywell allowed one run and posted a 1:2 K:BB over 3.1 innings with Pittsburgh this season.

  • Pirates' Brent Honeywell: DFA'd by Pittsburgh

The Pirates designated Honeywell for assignment Friday, Noah Hiles of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports. Pittsburgh selected the 29-year-old's contract last weekend, but he won't stick in the big leagues after he allowed one earned run with a 1:2 K:BB over 3.1 frames in two appearances. Honeywell could return to Triple-A Indianapolis, where he has a 4.85 ERA in 31 outings this year, if he goes unclaimed on waivers.

  • Pirates' Brent Honeywell: Makes 2024 debut

Honeywell allowed one hit across a scoreless inning Monday against the Mets. Mitch Keller covered eight innings for the Pirates and Honeywell entered the game for the ninth inning with a six-run lead. The outing marked his big-league debut for 2024, and he'll likely serve in a low-leverage role out of the bullpen for the time being.

  • Pirates' Brent Honeywell: Summoned to big leagues

The Pirates selected Honeywell's contract from Triple-A Indianapolis on Sunday. Pittsburgh cleared room on the 40-man roster for Honeywell by designating fellow reliever Justin Bruihl for assignment and on the 26-man active roster by placing southpaw starter Bailey Falter (arm) on the injured list. The 29-year-old Honeywell previously made 40 relief appearances in the majors between the Padres and White Sox in 2023, logging a 4.82 ERA and 1.45 WHIP across 52.1 innings. He's spent the entire season thus far at Indianapolis and hadn't pitched dramatically better (4.85 ERA, 1.36 WHIP, 33:17 K:BB in 39 innings), so he'll likely be ticketed for a low-leverage role out of the Pittsburgh bullpen.

  • Pirates' Brent Honeywell: Invited to Pirates' camp

Honeywell signed a minor-league contract with the Pirates on Wednesday and received an invitation to major-league spring training, Jon Morosi of MLB Network reports. Honeywell logged a 4.82 ERA and 1.45 WHIP over 52.1 innings last season with the Padres and White Sox. He'll have an opportunity to make the Pirates' Opening Day bullpen in the spring, but Triple-A Indianapolis is Honeywell's likely destination.

  • White Sox's Brent Honeywell: Jettisoned from 40-man roster

Honeywell was designated for assignment Wednesday, Vinnie Duber of AllCHGO.com reports. Honeywell was claimed off waivers from the Padres earlier this month after the Friars had removed him from their 40-man roster. He didn't last long on the South Side, coughing up seven runs over 5.2 innings. Honeywell will now go through the waiver process again.

  • White Sox's Brent Honeywell: Claimed by South Siders

Honeywell was claimed off waivers by the White Sox on Saturday. Honeywell was recently designated for assignment by San Diego and will now make his way to Chicago. The 28-year-old had a 3.20 ERA in his first 29 outings for the Padres this season, but he lost his place on the 40-man roster after he gave up seven earned runs across his last seven outings.

  • Padres' Brent Honeywell: Dropped from 40-man roster

Honeywell was designated for assignment by the Padres on Wednesday. Honeywell made the Opening Day roster out of Padres camp this spring and has managed to stay healthy, but the 28-year-old former Rays prospect had surrendered seven earned runs over his last 7.1 innings (seven appearances) dating back to June 30. He heads into DFA limbo showing an overall 4.05 ERA, 1.37 WHIP and 42:20 K:BB across 46.2 innings of relief this year.

  • Padres' Brent Honeywell: Ups and downs this spring

Honeywell has tallied 16 strikeouts through 11.1 innings this spring in the Cactus League. That's the positive angle to Honeywell's performance thus far in exhibition action. The negative is that he has surrendered 10 runs -- eight earned -- on 12 hits (three homers) for an ERA of 6.35. The 27-year-old former Rays prospect signed a split contract with the Padres over the winter ($725,000 in the majors, $200,000 in the minors) and will likely be ticketed for Triple-A El Paso to begin the 2023 campaign.

  • Padres' Brent Honeywell: Signs with Friars

Honeywell signed a one-year deal with the Padres on Friday, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports. Honeywell spent all of last season in the Athletics' farm system, posting a 7.79 ERA and 2.05 WHIP with Triple-A Las Vegas while also rehabbing an elbow injury. When healthy, Honeywell has shown an ability to strike batters out at a high rate, which will help him compete for a spot on the Padres' big-league pitching staff.

  • Athletics' Brent Honeywell: Missing bats with Las Vegas

Honeywell, who was outrighted to Triple-A Las Vegas upon activation from the 60-day injured list Sept. 11, has allowed two earned runs on six hits over 3.1 innings while posting a 5:2 K:BB in his first two relief appearances with the Aviators. Honeywell made a pair of 1.2-inning appearances out of the Las Vegas bullpen against Tacoma on Wednesday and Saturday. The right-hander allowed a pair of solo homers among four hits to the Rainiers on Wednesday, but he bore down to produce a scoreless effort with three punchouts Saturday. Honeywell's complicated, voluminous injury history makes any long-term outlook for him uncertain at best, but the organization hopes he can build some momentum at the tail end of the minor-league season before potentially getting a chance to compete for a big-league roster spot again in spring training.

  • Athletics' Brent Honeywell: Activated, cast off 40-man roster

The Athletics reinstated Honeywell (elbow) from the 60-day injured list Sunday and outrighted him to Triple-A Las Vegas after he cleared waivers, Matt Kawahara of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. The fact that Honeywell went unclaimed upon being exposed to waivers demonstrates just how much the former top pitching prospect's stock has fallen after a series of arm-related injuries in recent seasons. Honeywell, who had been on the IL all season upon sustaining a stress reaction in his elbow in spring training, is healthy again after an extended rehab assignment, but he struggled to regain form during his time in the minors. Between stops at Las Vegas and Single-A Stockton, Honeywell posted an 8.49 ERA and 1.97 WHIP while striking out 11 in 11.2 innings across his eight appearances.
