  • White Sox's Luis Gonzalez: Contract purchased by White Sox

Gonzalez's contract was selected by the White Sox on Monday.

Gonzalez posted a strong .307/.368/.498 slash line at the Low-A and High-A levels in 2018 but struggled with Double-A Birmingham last season, hitting .247/.316/.359. While he did steal 17 bases, expectations should be modest for him for now, as he's skipping Triple-A entirely. He'll likely fill a bench outfield role while he remains on the roster, with Adam Engel landing on the COVID-19 injured list in a corresponding move.

  • White Sox's Luis Gonzalez: Joins satellite camp

Gonzalez was added to the White Sox's 60-man player pool Tuesday, James Fegan of The Athletic reports.

Gonzalez spent the 2019 season with Double-A Birmingham, where he struggled a bit, hitting .247/.316/.359 with nine home runs and 59 RBI. He'll be able to continue developing in 2020 as part of the 16 players at the team's satellite camp and will be eligible to join the major-league squad if injuries pile up.

  • White Sox's Luis Gonzalez: Named Player of Week in Carolina League

Gonzalez earned the Carolina League Player of the Week for the week of Aug. 6 through Aug. 12, Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports. He went 7-for-17 (.412) with two home runs, three doubles, six RBI and six runs scored over five games for High-A Winston-Salem

Gonzalez hasn't skipped a beat since earning his promotion from Low-A Kannapolis. The lefty-hitting outfielder has increased his average, on-base percentage and slugging at the advanced level. Gonzalez is in the middle tier of the organization's prospect list, but can do a little bit of everything with the bat and can steal a base or 10.

  • White Sox's Luis Gonzalez: Moves up to High-A

Gonzalez was transferred to High-A Winston-Salem on Thursday, James Fegan of The Athletic reports.

The White Sox made a slew of roster moves, sending a smattering of high-end prospects to the next level including Gonzalez, who was in the midst of an impressive year with Low-A Kannapolis. Over 55 games with the club, he slashed .300/.358/.491 with eight home runs, 26 RBI and seven stolen bases. Expect him to stay with Winston-Salem throughout the remainder of the 2018 season.

  • White Sox's Luis Gonzalez: Picked by White Sox

The White Sox have selected Gonzalez with the 87th overall pick in the 2017 first-year player draft.

While Gonzalez can nearly hit 95 mph on the radar gun with his fastball, the junior from the University of New Mexico will likely play the outfield as a professional. The left-hander had almost twice as many walks as strikeouts in 2017, parlaying that eagle eye at the dish into an OBP of .500. Gonzalez is toolsy, as evidenced by his eight home runs and 14 stolen bases in 55 games for the Lobos. With speed, the ability to handle the bat and even some pop, Gonzalez is a safe pick after the first round of selections.
