  • Braves' Austin Riley: Lands on 10-day IL

Atlanta placed Riley on the 10-day injured list Tuesday with a fractured right hand. Riley is expected to miss 6-to-8 weeks, with his regular season effectively coming to an end as a result of an injury he suffered when he was hit by a pitch in Sunday's game against the Angels. Atlanta signed Gio Urshela to take over Riley's roster spot, and he should also be in line to absorb most of the starts at third base the rest of the season.

  • Braves' Austin Riley: Set to miss 6-to-8 weeks

Atlanta announced Monday that Riley was diagnosed with a fractured right hand following an MRI and is expected to miss 6-to-8 weeks. Initial testing on Riley's hand after he was hit by a pitch Sunday was inconclusive, but Monday's MRI revealed the third baseman is dealing with a fracture. The 6-to-8-week timeline all but guarantees Riley won't return before October, with Atlanta's final regular-season contest being exactly six weeks away from this past Sunday. Atlanta currently holds the NL's third and final wild-card spot, so there's a chance Riley could be back for postseason play. In the meantime, Luke Williams will likely step in as Atlanta's primary option at the hot corner.

  • Braves' Austin Riley: X-rays inconclusive

Riley (hand) is set to undergo further evaluation after initial X-rays and testing were inconclusive Sunday, Justin Toscano of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports. Riley was forced to exit Sunday's game against the Angels after being hit by a pitch in his right hand. There should be a clearer timeline for his potential return to the lineup Tuesday, as Atlanta is off Monday.

  • Braves' Austin Riley: Exits after HBP

Riley was removed from Sunday's game against the Angels after being hit by a pitch on his right hand, Justin Toscano of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports. The third baseman initially stayed in to run the bases after being struck on the hand by a 97-mph sinker in the top of the first inning, but he was replaced in the field by Luke Williams for the bottom of the frame. Riley is likely headed for X-rays, leaving his availability up in the air heading into Tuesday's series opener versus the Phillies.

  • Braves' Austin Riley: Drives in three in loss

Riley went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run, an RBI double, a walk and two total runs scored in Wednesday's 8-5 loss to Milwaukee. Riley has gone 15-for-40 (.375) with three homers and 10 RBI over his last 10 games. He twice gave Atlanta the lead Wednesday, but Milwaukee was able to offer a response each time. For the season, Riley is up to a .264/.331/.467 slash line with 16 homers, 50 RBI, 56 runs scored, 25 doubles and no stolen bases over 99 games.

  • Braves' Austin Riley: Slugs 15th homer

Riley went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Thursday's win over the Marlins. The third baseman got Atlanta on the board by taking Max Meyer deep in the first inning. Riley is coming off a strong July that saw him slash .280/.324/.527 with five homers and 14 RBI in 24 games, but with only 15 long balls on the year, he'll need to stay hot down the stretch to reach 30 for a fourth straight season.

  • Braves' Austin Riley: Racks up four hits in win

Riley went 4-for-5 with one RBI and one run scored in Tuesday's 5-1 win over the Brewers. Riley has four multi-hit efforts and five hitless games over 10 contests since the All-Star break. This was his best of that span, though all four of his hits Tuesday were singles. The third baseman is batting .284 (25-for-88) over 23 games in July, lifting him up to a .259/.326/.452 slash line for the year. Riley has added 14 home runs, 43 RBI, 52 runs scored, 22 doubles and two triples across 92 contests. Barring a late surge, he'll miss the 30-homer mark for the first time since the abbreviated 2020 campaign.

  • Braves' Austin Riley: Mashes 14th homer

Riley went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run, a walk and an additional run scored Sunday against the Mets. Riley entered Sunday's contest mired in a 2-for-21 slump but collected two hits, including his 14th dinger of the season. Riley left the yard for the fifth time this month but still carries a substandard slash line of .254/.323/.452 over 381 plate appearances and remains on pace to finish with fewer than 30 homers for the first time in four seasons.

  • Braves' Austin Riley: Reinstated from paternity leave

Atlanta activated Riley (personal) from the paternity list Thursday. Because of a pair of rainouts, Riley missed just one game while spending the maximum three days away from the team on paternity leave. He'll be back in the lineup for Atlanta's series opener Thursday against the Mets.

  • Braves' Austin Riley: Officially lands on paternity list

Atlanta placed Riley on the paternity list Monday. Riley was removed from Monday's 4-1 loss to the Reds in the ninth inning after his wife went into labor, and he's now officially on the paternity list as he welcomes a new arrival to the family. He is expected to be back with Atlanta for the start of its series Thursday against the Mets, per David O'Brien of The Athletic. Nacho Alvarez is handling third base Tuesday while Zack Short occupies second base.

  • Braves' Austin Riley: Goes yard again

Riley went 1-for-3 with a walk, a two-run home run and a second run scored in Friday's loss to the Phillies. Aaron Nola let a sinker catch too much of the plate in the fourth inning, and Riley drove it over the wall in center field for Atlanta's first runs of the night. The third baseman has an extra-base hit and at least one RBI in four straight games, and over his last 20 contests he's slashing .362/.438/.797 with six doubles, eight homers, 17 runs and 17 RBI.

  • Braves' Austin Riley: Swats homer No. 10

Riley went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Tuesday's 5-3 loss to the Giants. The third baseman took Hayden Birdsong deep in the second inning to open the scoring on the night. Riley's bat has woken up in a big way over the last few weeks -- since June 14, he's slashing .356/.441/.780 in 68 plate appearances with seven of his 10 homers on the year and 12 of his 32 RBI.

  • Braves' Austin Riley: Stays hot Friday

Riley went 2-for-4 with two walks, a solo home run and a second run scored in Friday's 8-1 win over the Yankees. The 27-year-old slugger has flipped the switch in June. Riley has at least one extra-base hit in six of his last seven games, batting a blistering .545 (12-for-22) over that stretch with four doubles, four homers, nine runs and nine RBI. After a rough, injury-plagued start to the season, the power surge has pushed his slash line up to .251/.324/.420.

  • Braves' Austin Riley: Power surge continues

Riley went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run and a second run scored in Sunday's loss to the Rays. The third baseman erupted out of a slump to homer in three straight games against Tampa Bay, racking up six hits and eight RBI in the three-games weekend series. Even with the power surge, Riley has only six home runs and 28 RBI on the season, but he's topped 30 homers and 90 RBI in each of the past three seasons. The 27-year-old is capable of going on a tear that would have him back on his usual pace before the end of June.

  • Braves' Austin Riley: Cranks three-run homer

Riley went 1-for-2 with a three-run home run and two walks in Saturday's 9-2 victory against the Rays. Riley broke the game open in the seventh frame with his three-run shot to center field that gave Atlanta an 8-1 lead. It was the second straight contest with a long ball for the third baseman following a 23-game homerless stretch (and a 45-game span during which he went deep only once). Riley may finally be getting his power on track, but with just five long balls through 233 plate appearances, he'll be hard-pressed to reach 30 homers for the fourth straight season.

  • Braves' Austin Riley: Belts fourth homer

Riley went 3-for-4 with a home run, a double, two runs scored and three RBI in Friday's win over Tampa Bay. Riley hit an RBI double in the first inning before hammering a two-run homer in the second. It was just his fourth homer of the year and first since May 3, snapping a 23-game drought. During that homerless streak, he posted a brutal .462 OPS. Riley is now slashing .230/.296/.357 with 17 extra-base hits and 23 RBI through 54 games.

  • Braves' Austin Riley: Struggles continue Thursday

Riley went 0-for-5 with a strikeout in Thursday's win over the Orioles. The third baseman's been dropped down to fifth in the order, even with lefty-hander Cole Irvin on the mound for Baltimore on Thursday, but it hasn't helped wake up Riley's bat. His last homer came May 3, and in 16 games since he returned from an intercostal strain he's slashing just .161/.212/.194 with two RBI and a 4:17 BB:K. Riley's track record says he will heat up at some point this summer, and his Statcast profile suggests there's a great deal of bad luck contributing to his numbers this season -- he's in the 91st percentile in max exit velocity, 90th percentile in bat speed and 82nd percentile in hard-hit rate.

  • Braves' Austin Riley: Bats second in return

Riley went 0-for-4 with a strikeout in Monday's loss to the Nationals. Seeing his first game action since May 12, Riley looked a bit rusty but appeared fully recovered from an intercostal strain. The third baseman hit second in the order with lefty Mitchell Parker on the bump for the Nats, and that could be his new home in the batting order against southpaws with Atlanta shuffling things around in the wake of a season-ending knee injury for Ronald Acuna. Through 167 plate appearances this year, Riley is slashing a disappointing .238/.311/.377 with three homers and 18 RBI.

  • Braves' Austin Riley: Absence continues as expected

Riley (side) is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Pirates. Atlanta manager Brian Snitker said Friday that Riley likely won't return to action until Monday versus Washington, so it's no surprise the third baseman will sit for the 13th straight game due to an intercostal strain. Zack Short will receive another start at the hot corner in the series finale at Pittsburgh.

  • Braves' Austin Riley: Sitting as expected

Riley (side) isn't in Atlanta's lineup for Saturday's game against the Pirates. Manager Brian Snitker said Friday that Riley is likely to sit out until Atlanta begins its series against the Nationals on Monday, so the third baseman's absence Saturday isn't too surprising. Zack Short will continue starting at third base while Riley misses his 12th consecutive game.
