Ruddy Giron: Released by Padres
Giron was released by San Diego on Monday, David Jay of MadFriars reports.
Giron enjoyed a solid half-season with Low-A Fort Wayne in 2015, slashing .285/.335/.407, but sputtered to a .222 average at the same level the following season and never generated much steam elsewhere. The 23-year-old hit .202 with an ugly 3:23 BB:K in 84 at-bats between High-A Lake Elsinore and Double-A Amarillo last season.

Padres' Ruddy Giron: Promoted to High-A
Giron was promoted to High-A Lake Elsinore on Friday.
The move has little to do with Giron earning a promotion and more to do with the fact that Lake Elsinore needed another shortstop on the roster with Javier Guerra (undisclosed) on the DL. Giron slashed .222/.284/.304 with just two home runs in 106 at-bats at Low-A Fort Wayne prior to this promotion, essentially fading off the dynasty league radar.

Padres' Ruddy Giron: Disappointing in Single-A
Giron is batting just .180 with only three stolen bases and no home runs through 57 games for Low-A Fort Wayne.
Giron has struggled this season after a solid 2015 where he hit .285 with nine homers as a starting shortstop in Fort Wayne. He'll need to show drastic improvement in order to advance through the minors and fulfill his potential.

Padres' Ruddy Giron: Returns to Fort Wayne lineup after DL stint
Giron was activated from the DL by Single-A Fort Wayne on Thursday.
Giron started at shortstop in his first game back and promptly went 0-for-5 with two strikeouts, lowering his average to .196. The shortstop was only hitting .216 with six RBI prior to his return. His backup, Peter Van Gansen, batted .241 with three RBI as his replacement. Giron will need to show improvement if he is to keep the starting role.
