Top Balbino Fuenmayor News

  • Nationals' Balbino Fuenmayor: Signs with Nationals

Fuenmayor agreed to a minor-league contract with Washington on Wednesday, Chris Cotillo of SB Nation reports.

Fuenmayor spent the 2017 season in the Mexican League following a pair of seasons at Triple-A for the Royals. The 28-year-old has never appeared in a major-league contest, but slashed .291/.325/.405 in 101 games with Triple-A Omaha in 2016. He will likely serve as organizational depth for the Nationals moving forward, and should begin the upcoming season back in the high minors.

  • Braves' Balbino Fuenmayor: Inks minor league deal with Braves

Fuenmayor signed a minor league contract with the Braves on Friday, Matt Eddy of Baseball America reports.

"The Great Balbino" doesn't have much prospect pedigree, but he certainly left his mark back in 2015 when he bashed 17 home runs and 28 doubles between the Double-A and Triple-A levels of the Royals organization. His production tapered off a bit last season, so between that and Freddie Freeman occupying first base at the major league level, Fuenmayor will likely spend another season in an organizational depth role.

  • Royals' Balbino Fuenmayor: Struggles finding rhythmn

Fuenmayor is batting .250 with a .305 on-base percentage through 31 games with Triple-A Omaha.

In the 16 games he played at Triple-A Omaha in 2015 before going down with an injury, Fuenmayor posted a .377/.371/.580 line with six doubles and two home runs. This season has been a different story, as he's hit just six doubles with one home run in 31 games. He'll have to show signs of improvement soon, for Ryan O'Hearn, his counterpart at Double-A Northwest Arkansas, is quickly climbing through the ranks of the organization. Since being called up to Northwest Arkansas on May 2, O'Hearn has a .293/.354/.467 line with two home runs and five doubles.
