  • Phillies' Garrett Stubbs: Set to lose playing time

Stubbs is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Mets. He'll be on the bench for the fourth straight game and is likely to see scant playing time down the stretch after J.T. Realmuto returned to action Friday following a week-long absence. Stubbs will at least stick around as the top backup to Realmuto after the Phillies designated No. 3 backstop Aramis Garcia for assignment Sunday.

  • Phillies' Garrett Stubbs: Knocks four hits

Stubbs went 4-for-4 with a triple, a double, one RBI and three runs scored in Sunday's 11-3 win over Kansas City. Stubbs tripled and scored in the third inning before doubling in a run and scoring again in the sixth. He capped off his big day in the eighth inning with a single and another run scored. Stubbs is now slashing .216/.310/.281 with six extra-base hits through 158 plate appearances this season, but his starting opportunities are expected to remain fairly limited while top backstop J.T. Realmuto is available.

  • Phillies' Garrett Stubbs: Losing work to Realmuto

Stubbs will start at catcher and bat eighth in Wednesday's game against the Twins. Though he's included in the lineup for the series finale in Minnesota, Stubbs has moved back into the No. 2 role at catcher after JT Realmuto was reinstated from the injured list Saturday. Realmuto has been on the bench twice in the Phillies' five contests since his activation, but both of his absences came in day games after night games.

  • Phillies' Garrett Stubbs: Won't face lefty

Stubbs is out of the lineup for Friday's game against the Athletics. As per usual, Stubbs will yield to Rafael Marchan behind the dish with a lefty pitcher on the mound in Hogan Harris. Stubbs is slashing .194/.259/.243 across 112 plate appearances this season.

  • Phillies' Garrett Stubbs: Resting Sunday

Stubbs is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Marlins. Stubbs will get a breather for the series finale after he had started at catcher in both of the previous two contests. Rafael Marchan gets a turn behind the dish Sunday.

  • Phillies' Garrett Stubbs: Belts first homer

Stubbs went 1-for-2 with a solo home run in Saturday's 3-2 loss to the Marlins. The 31-year-old backstop got the Phillies on the board in the third inning by clubbing a Roddery Munoz sinker over the right-field fence. The homer was Stubbs' first of the season, and he's been making a modest impact since J.T. Realmuto (knee) was sidelined, hitting safely in nine of his last 10 games and batting .278 (10-for-36) over that stretch. The RBI was his first since June 2, however.

  • Phillies' Garrett Stubbs: Sitting versus lefty

Stubbs isn't in the Phillies' lineup for Saturday's game versus Arizona. The lefty-hitting Stubbs will take a seat Saturday as the lefty-throwing Tommy Henry starts on the bump for the Diamondbacks. Rafael Marchan will instead start at catcher while batting ninth.

  • Phillies' Garrett Stubbs: Sitting against southpaw

Stubbs isn't in the starting nine for Friday's game against the Diamondbacks, Todd Zolecki of MLB.com reports. With lefty Jordan Montgomery on the mound for Arizona, Stubbs will yield to Rafael Marchan behind the dish. Stubbs is 4-for-19 (.210) since J.T. Realmuto's (knee) injury.

  • Phillies' Garrett Stubbs: Receiving rest Wednesday

Stubbs is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Padres. Stubbs will get some rest in the series finale after he caught three of the Phillies' last four games. Rafael Marchan will settle in behind the plate in Wednesday's day game.

  • Phillies' Garrett Stubbs: Out of lineup Monday

Stubbs is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Padres. Stubbs has now made four starts to Rafael Marchan's three since J.T. Realmuto (knee) landed on the shelf after undergoing meniscus surgery. Marchan will handle the catching duties Monday, forming a battery with starting pitcher Cristopher Sanchez.

  • Phillies' Garrett Stubbs: Idle Friday

Stubbs is out of the lineup for Friday's game against Baltimore. Stubbs will give way to Rafael Marchan for the second time in four games, even with a right-handed pitcher taking the mound for the Orioles. It seems as though Stubbs and Marchan will be in a near 50-50 split behind the plate while J.T. Realmuto (knee) is sidelined unless one of them heats up.

  • Phillies' Garrett Stubbs: Swipes bag in Tuesday's start

Stubbs went 1-for-4 with a stolen base in Tuesday's 4-1 win over the Red Sox. The 31-year-old got the start with J.T. Realmuto (knee) headed for an extended absence, and Stubbs took advantage by pilfering his career-high fourth bag of the season. While he's batting just .179 on the year, six of his 10 hits this season have come in his last five starts. Stubbs is expected to work on the strong side of a platoon with Rafael Marchan while Realmuto recovers from knee surgery that could keep him sidelined until the All-Star break.

  • Phillies' Garrett Stubbs: Batting eighth Tuesday

Stubbs is starting behind the plate and batting eighth Tuesday against the Red Sox, Alex Coffey of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports. The 31-year-old will be making just his 15th start of the season, but he should have a more regular role for the foreseeable future with J.T. Realmuto (knee) landing on the injured list Tuesday. Stubbs has a .173/.271/.192 slash line in 59 plate appearances this season and doesn't offer much fantasy upside.

  • Phillies' Garrett Stubbs: Logs steal in win

Stubbs went 2-for-4 with one RBI, one stolen base and one run scored in Saturday's 8-4 win over the Rockies. Stubbs' playing time remains low as the backup to J.T. Realmuto. This was Stubbs' first multi-hit effort of the season, but he's still just 3-for-24 (.125) in May. The catcher is at a .140/.213/.140 slash line with three steals, two RBI and three runs scored over 47 plate appearances this season.

  • Phillies' Garrett Stubbs: Gets second straight start

Stubbs will start at catcher and bat ninth in Monday's game against the Mets. Stubbs will make a second straight start while J.T. Realmuto is day-to-day with a knee injury. The Phillies expect Realmuto to avoid a stint on the injured list, but with Tuesday's game beginning at 1:10 p.m. ET, the team could opt to hold him out for another contest while giving Stubbs another turn behind the plate.

  • Phillies' Garrett Stubbs: Steals bag in win

Stubbs went 1-for-4 with one run and one stolen base in Monday's win against the Cardinals. Playing in a mere two games since Opening Day, the 30-year-old has gone 2-for-7 with a run and a stolen base. Currently locked in as No. 2 catcher behind J.T. Realmuto, Stubbs' position could be reevaluated when Rafael Marchan returns from his back injury.

  • Phillies' Garrett Stubbs: Reaches agreement with Phils

Stubbs avoided arbitration Friday with the Phillies on a one-year contract. Stubbs slashed just .204/.274/.283 over 41 regular-season games in 2023 and drew only one postseason plate appearance, but the backup catcher figures to return to that role behind J.T. Realmuto in 2024.

  • Phillies' Garrett Stubbs: Notches steal Sunday

Stubbs went 2-for-3 with a walk, one RBI, a stolen base and two runs scored in Sunday's 9-1 win over the Mets. Stubbs got into just seven games after the start of September, serving as backup to workhorse catcher J.T. Realmuto. The multi-hit effort Sunday was just the second such game for Stubbs all season. He slashed .204/.274/.283 with one home run, 12 RBI, 15 runs scored and two stolen bases across 125 plate appearances. Stubbs will likely see minimal playing time in the postseason.

  • Phillies' Garrett Stubbs: Picks up rare start

Stubbs will start at catcher and bat ninth in Wednesday's game against the Diamondbacks. With top backstop J.T. Realmuto receiving a breather for the day game after a night game, Stubbs will crack the starting nine for just the eighth time in 49 contests on the season. Stubbs, who owns a .588 OPS over 30 plate appearances in 2023, will likely remain one of MLB's most lightly used backup catchers so long as Realmuto is healthy.

  • Phillies' Garrett Stubbs: Works behind plate Saturday

Stubbs went 0-for-1 and caught an inning behind the plate in Saturday's 16-3 loss to the Rangers. Stubbs' status for Opening Day initially appeared to be in some doubt after he experienced right knee irritation earlier in March during a stint with Team Israel in the World Baseball Classic, but he was able to erase any concerns about his health by catching six innings in the Phillies' exhibition finale last Tuesday. He ended up making his season debut Saturday, but that was only because starting catcher J.T. Realmuto was pulled from the game early due to the Phillies trailing by 10 runs.
