  • Marlins' Braxton Garrett: Touching 95 mph in live BP

Garrett was touching 95 mph in a live batting practice session Wednesday, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.

Garrett missed the entire 2025 season after December 2024 internal brace surgery on his left elbow but has no restrictions at the beginning of camp. The left-hander averaged 90.7 mph with his four-seamer in 2024 and has never averaged more than 91.5 mph with the pitch, so the fact that he's already touching the mid-90s early on in spring training is a good sign. Garrett will likely have some kind of workload restrictions in 2026, but he should have a spot in the Marlins' rotation locked up.

  • Marlins' Braxton Garrett: Cleared for start of camp

Garrett (elbow) will be available to pitch this week as spring training gets underway, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.

The Marlins announced Wednesday that aside from Calvin Faucher -- who has yet to report to camp --and the rehabbing Ronny Henriquez (elbow), all pitchers on the 40-man roster are operating with no restrictions to begin camp. Garrett missed the entire 2025 season after undergoing elbow surgery with an internal brace in December 2024, but he told Kevin Barral of FishonFirst.com that he threw "a couple" live bullpen sessions prior to reporting to camp and is scheduled to throw another one Wednesday. Since he's coming off a major injury, Garrett may be eased into Grapefruit League action, but the 28-year-old lefty should have a fairly clear path to an Opening Day rotation spot.

  • Marlins' Braxton Garrett: Expected to be full-go in camp

Garrett (elbow) isn't expected to have any restrictions when spring training begins, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.

Garrett didn't pitch at all in 2025 while recovering from December 2024 elbow surgery that included an internal brace procedure. The 28-year-old southpaw had shown flashes of upside before that, including a shutout of the Diamondbacks in May 2024, and with the Marlins having traded Edward Cabrera and Ryan Weathers this offseason, the team is counting on Garrett to fill one of three openings in the rotation behind Sandy Alcantara and Eury Perez.

  • Marlins' Braxton Garrett: Avoids arbitration

The Marlins and Garrett (elbow) avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year, $1.53 million contract Thursday, Fish on First reports.

Garrett will receive the same salary for a second straight year after he missed all of the 2025 season following UCL revision surgery with an internal brace on his left elbow. The southpaw is a little over a year removed from the operation and it's unclear whether he will be ready in time for Opening Day.

  • Marlins' Braxton Garrett: Begins throwing program

Garrett (elbow) played catch Monday for the first time since having UCL revision surgery with an internal brace on his left elbow in December, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.

Garrett took the first major step in what will be a lengthy rehab process. He will be sidelined for the entire 2025 season but could be ready in time for Opening Day in 2026 if he can avoid any setbacks in the coming months.

  • Marlins' Braxton Garrett: Goes to 60-day IL

The Marlins placed Garrett (elbow) on the 60-day injured list Wednesday.

The transaction clears a spot on the 40-man roster for right-hander Cal Quantrill, who signed a one-year contract with the Marlins in a corresponding move. Garrett underwent UCL revision surgery with an internal brace on his left elbow in December and will be sidelined for the entire 2025 season.

  • Marlins' Braxton Garrett: Out for 2025 after UCL surgery

Garrett will miss the 2025 season after undergoing UCL revision surgery with an internal brace in December, Craig Mish of the Miami Herald reports.

Garrett made just seven starts for the Marlins during the 2024 season due to forearm and elbow problems and his UCL finally gave out. The left-hander had Tommy John surgery previously, so while the December operation was less invasive, it will still be a very lengthy rehab. If all goes well, it's possible Garrett is ready for the start of the 2026 season.

  • Marlins' Braxton Garrett: Settles with Miami

The Marlins and Garrett (elbow) avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year contract Thursday, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.

Garrett avoids an arbitration hearing in his first year of eligibility. He did not, however, avoid elbow surgery, as he underwent a UCL revision surgery with an internal brace last month that will sideline him for the entirety of the 2025 season.

  • Marlins' Braxton Garrett: Dealing with elbow impingement

Garrett was diagnosed with a left elbow impingement last week, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.

Garrett missed multiple months of action with a strained left forearm before suffering a setback with his elbow during a bullpen session in September. He is currently going through a throwing progression at the Marlins' spring training complex in Florida, and the setback isn't considered something that will jeopardize his availability for the start of spring training.

  • Marlins' Braxton Garrett: Suffers setback

Manager Skip Schumaker said Saturday that Garrett experienced discomfort in his elbow during his latest bullpen session, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.

Garrett has been on the injured list since June with a strained left forearm and recently made his third rehab appearance at Triple-A Jacksonville. However, his latest elbow setback may put a dent in his plans to return to Miami before the end of the season. The Marlins will take the lefty in for an MRI, the results of which will help determine whether he can pitch again in 2024.
