Gurriel has gone 8-for-25 (.320) with six RBI over his last six games. He's logged four doubles in that span, but the homer Tuesday was his first since May 17, before he sustained a hamstring injury. Gurriel is now batting .226 with a .603 OPS, two homers, 19 RBI, nine runs scored, eight doubles and one stolen base over 36 contests this season. He's settled in as the primary designated hitter since Max Kepler returned from an 80-game suspension to take over a platoon role in left field.

Arizona plans to option outfielder Ryan Waldschmidt to Triple-A Reno to clear a spot on the active roster for Gurriel, who has been shelved since May 23 due to a left hamstring strain. Gurriel (hamstring) began a rehab assignment in the rookie-level Arizona Complex League Monday, going 1-for-4 with an RBI single.
Gurriel played seven innings in left field Monday in what was his first game action since he went down with a left hamstring strain nearly three weeks ago. He'll eventually move up to a higher affiliate to continue his rehab and is tracking toward a mid-June return from the 10-day injured list.

Gurriel (hamstring) appears on track to begin a rehab assignment in the rookie-level Arizona Complex League as soon as next Monday, MLB.com reports.
Though Gurriel is eligible to return from the 10-day injured list Tuesday, he'll need some more time to fully heal from the left hamstring injury that he sustained on a sliding catch during a May 22 game against the Rockies. According to the report, Gurriel has resumed running, taking part in outfield drills and taking batting practice against a machine since landing on the IL. He'll likely increase the intensity of his workouts this week before heading out on a rehab assignment and potentially making his return to the Arizona lineup around the middle of June.

Gurriel's hamstring injury is believed to be fairly minor, Nick Piecoro of The Arizona Republic reports. Manager Torey Lovullo said Saturday the hope is Gurriel will be able to return from the injured list when first eligible.
Gurriel injured his hamstring while sliding to make a catch in the outfield Friday, leading to his placement on the 10-day IL. It sounds like both the player and team expect him back when he's first eligible to return on June 2, but in the meantime Tommy Troy will get a look in left field for the Diamondbacks.

It was the first homer of the season for Gurriel, who's had a slow start since being activated off the 60-day injured list in April; however, the bat has showed recent life. He's knocked in at least one run in four of his last five games and is 6-for-20 with three extra-base hits and five RBI during that span.
