  • Tigers' Tomas Nido: Receives MiLB deal from Detroit

The Tigers signed Nido to a minor-league contract Tuesday. Nido was released by the Cubs in late August just as he was beginning a rehab assignment following a debridement procedure on his right knee. He should be healthy enough to play now and will give the Tigers some organizational catching depth for the stretch run.

  • Tomas Nido: Cut loose by Cubs

The Cubs released Nido (knee) on Friday, Meghan Montemurro of the Chicago Tribune reports. Nido was released to make room for Shawn Armstrong on the 40-man roster. After signing with Chicago in June, Nido slashed .128/.143/.234 with one home run in 50 plate appearances. The 30-year-old catcher could draw some interest on the open market, though he's currently recovering from a debridement procedure on his right knee.

  • Cubs' Tomas Nido: Begins rehab assignment

Nido (knee) went 1-for-2 with a run scored in his first rehab game with Triple-A Iowa on Thursday. Nido is exactly one month removed from a debridement procedure on his right knee but is ready for game action again. He shouldn't need more than a handful of rehab games before returning. Christian Bethancourt has played well as the Cubs' backup to Miguel Amaya, but there could be room for all three catchers when rosters expand.

  • Cubs' Tomas Nido: Resumes baseball activities

Nido (knee) resumed baseball activities Thursday, Andy Martinez of Marquee Sports Network reports. Nido will ease back into things after having a debridgement on his right knee in late July. He's expected back sometime in September and should share the Cubs' catching duties with Miguel Amaya when he returns.

  • Cubs' Tomas Nido: Undergoes knee surgery

Nido underwent a debridgement on his right knee Tuesday, Maddie Lee of the Chicago Sun-Times reports. Nido landed on the 10-day injured list last week with a sprained knee and has now had it scoped. He's expected to be sidelined for 4-to-6 weeks, per Andy Martinez of Marquee Sports Network, so he'll likely be out until September.

  • Cubs' Tomas Nido: To IL with sprained knee

The Cubs placed Nido on the 10-day injured list Friday with a right knee sprain, Taylor McGregor of Marquee Sports Network reports. Nido will be eligible to return in early August but given the nature of the injury, it seems unlikely that he'll be ready by then. Miguel Amaya and Christian Bethancourt will handle the catching duties for the Cubs.

  • Cubs' Tomas Nido: Idle Tuesday

Nido isn't in the Cubs' lineup Tuesday versus the Brewers. While Nido and Miguel Amaya have been splitting time behind the plate recently, Tuesday's game will be the second consecutive one on the bench for Nido, his first set of consecutive absences since June 25-26. Amaya is batting eighth Tuesday after going 1-for-3 with two walks in Monday's 3-1 win over the Brewers.

  • Cubs' Tomas Nido: Pops homer in win

Nido went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Sunday's 8-3 win over the Cardinals. This was Nido's first homer as a Cub after signing with the team June 19. The catcher has hit safely in five of his last seven games, generating three RBI in that span. For the season, he's at a .202/.229/.331 slash line with four homers, 12 RBI, 14 runs scored and four doubles across 133 plate appearances between the Cubs and the Mets.

  • Cubs' Tomas Nido: Sitting again

Nido is out of the lineup for Saturday's game against the Cardinals. Nido is absent from the starting lineup for the fourth time in six games, as the Cubs turn to Miguel Amaya behind the dish Saturday. Nido logged a hit in just one of his first 16 at-bats with the Cubs, but he has since gone 4-for-18 with a pair of RBI and three runs.

  • Cubs' Tomas Nido: Not starting Friday

Nido is out of the lineup for Friday's game against the Cubs. Nido will yield to Miguel Amaya behind the plate for the third time in five games. Nido is 4-for-19 (.211) with three runs scored and two RBI during July.

  • Cubs' Tomas Nido: Hitting bench Wednesday

Nido is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Orioles. Nido had started behind the plate in four of the past five games, but he'll cede catching duties to Miguel Amaya on Wednesday. Since signing with the Cubs on June 19, Nido has put together a .133/.156/.200 slash line with a 31.3 percent strikeout rate, so his hold on the No. 1 catcher's role may be tenuous.

  • Cubs' Tomas Nido: Hitting bench Sunday

Nido is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Angels. Miguel Amaya is behind the dish for Sunday's series finale, but Nido appears to have at least temporarily settled on top of the depth chart at catcher after he was initially part of a timeshare at the position upon signing with the Cubs on June 19. Nido had started each of the past three games, going 2-for-10 with a double, two runs and an RBI.

  • Cubs' Tomas Nido: Signs with Cubs

The Cubs signed Nido to a one-year contract Wednesday, Taylor McGregor of Marquee Sports Network reports. The Cubs will swap out Yan Gomes -- who was designated for assignment -- for Nido. Nido was designated for assignment himself and eventually released by the Mets earlier this month but he quickly lands on his feet in Chicago, where he'll share catching duties with Miguel Amaya.

  • Tomas Nido: Cut loose by Mets

The Mets released Nido on Monday, Jorge Castillo of ESPN.com reports. Nido cleared waivers after being designated for assignment last week and is now free to sign with another organization. The veteran catcher has a career .564 OPS over parts of eight major-league seasons but is viewed as a strong defender, so he could draw interest as a backup catcher elsewhere.

  • Mets' Tomas Nido: Exits 40-man roster

The Mets designated Nido for assignment Tuesday, Mike Puma of the New York Post reports. Francisco Alvarez is back from the injured list and the Mets have elected to keep Luis Torrens around as his backup. Given his $2.1 million salary, Nido might clear waivers and remain in the organization.

  • Mets' Tomas Nido: Remains out of lineup

Nido is not in the starting lineup for Sunday's game against the Phillies. Nido continues to lose work behind the plate to Luis Torrens, with the former sitting for the fifth time in six games Sunday. Torrens went 1-for-3 in Saturday's 7-2 loss, and Nido appears to have lost his grip on the starting job behind home plate.

  • Mets' Tomas Nido: Taking seat Wednesday

Nido is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Rockies, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports. After catching seven innings of the Mets' 6-3 win Tuesday night, Nido will get a breather Wednesday as the NL East rivals wrap up their series with a day game. Luis Torrens will check in behind the plate for Nido on Wednesday.

  • Mets' Tomas Nido: Sitting out Monday

Nido is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Nationals. Nido will take a seat for the second day in a row while the Mets give Luis Torrens another turn behind the plate. Since Francisco Alvarez (thumb) landed on the injured list April 20, Nido has taken over as the Mets' primary backstop, but he hasn't offered much to get excited about for fantasy purposes. Through 31 games this season, Nido is hitting .225 with three home runs, zero stolen bases, nine runs and eight RBI.

  • Mets' Tomas Nido: Swats third homer

Nido went 2-for-3 with a walk and a two-run home run in Wednesday's loss to the Dodgers. The backstop took Elieser Hernandez deep in the fifth inning to get the Mets on the board, but a late collapse by the bullpen led to a 10-3 loss. Nido is slashing .233/.260/.370 in the majors this year with three homers and seven RBI in 28 games, and with Francisco Alvarez (thumb) ready to begin a rehab assignment, the clock is ticking on his time in a prominent role for the Mets.

  • Mets' Tomas Nido: Resting Wednesday

Nido is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Guardians, Tim Healey of Newsday reports. With the Mets wrapping up their series in Cleveland with a day game, Nido will receive a breather after catching eight innings of Tuesday's 7-6 loss. Omar Narvaez will spell Nido behind the plate Wednesday.
