  • Rockies' Chance Adams: Back with Rockies as NRI

Adams signed a minor-league contract with the Rockies on Monday that includes an invitation to spring training, Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports.

Heyman says Adams will earn a salary of $740,000 if in the big leagues. The 29-year-old missed the 2022 season following Tommy John surgery and came back in 2023 to post a 3.86 ERA and 21:10 K:BB over 32.2 innings at Triple-A Albuquerque in the Rockies organization. He will compete for a gig in the Rockies bullpen but will probably begin 2024 back at Albuquerque.

  • Royals' Chance Adams: Outrighted to Triple-A

Adams was outrighted to Triple-A Omaha on Friday.

Adams made six relief appearances during his first season with the Royals in 2020, but he was inefficient once again, allowing nine earned runs on 15 hits and no walks while striking out six over 8.2 innings. He'll be cast off the 40-man roster to make room for several prospects who will be protected from the Rule 5 draft.

  • Royals' Chance Adams: Back in big leagues

Adams was recalled by the Royals on Monday.

Adams made just one appearance in his previous stint on the Royals' roster, allowing three runs on four hits while recording just five outs. He now owns an 8.57 ERA in 34.2 major-league innings, meaning he's unlikely to fill anything but a low-leverage relief role during his time with the club. Ian Kennedy (calf) landed on the injured list in a corresponding move.

  • Royals' Chance Adams: Returns to alternate site

Adams was optioned to the alternate training site Wednesday.

The 26-year-old was recalled over the weekend and struggled in his team debut Monday, allowing three runs on four hits across 1.2 innings. Adams could rejoin the big-league roster later in the year, but for now he'll participate in workouts at the alternate site.

  • Royals' Chance Adams: Struggles in Royals debut

Adams allowed three runs on four hits across 1.2 innings pitched in Monday's loss to the Cardinals. He struck out one.

Adams was making his season debut after being recalled Sunday. He came on to pitch the sixth inning and immediately gave up a single to Brad Miller and two-run homer to Paul Goldschmidt. He retired the next three Cardinals in order but gave up another run before being pulled with two outs in the seventh.

  • Royals' Chance Adams: Called up to big club

The Royals recalled Adams from their alternate training site Sunday.

Adams will provide Kansas City with a fresh multi-inning arm out of the bullpen after the Royals needed four relievers to cover the final five innings of Saturday's 7-2 loss to the Twins. The 26-year-old right-hander, who made 13 relief appearances for the Yankees in 2019, has yet to make his Kansas City debut.

  • Royals' Chance Adams: Sent back down

Adams was optioned to the Royals' alternate training site Sunday.

Adams' shuffle between the major-league roster and alternate camp continues. The right-hander was called up by Kansas City on Saturday but will be optioned for the second time in three days. He began the season on the injured list for an undisclosed reason and still hasn't made an appearance in the majors this year.

  • Royals' Chance Adams: Recalled by Royals

Adams was recalled from the Royals' alternate training site Saturday.

Adams was optioned to the Royals' alternate training site Friday, but he'll rejoin the active roster just one day later after Nick Heath (hamstring) was placed on the 10-day injured list. The right-hander spent the start of the season on the injured list with an undisclosed injury and is unlikely to pitch in important spots.

  • Royals' Chance Adams: Activated and optioned

Adams (undisclosed) was reinstated from the injured list and optioned to the Royals' alternate training site Friday.

An undisclosed issue sent Adams to the injured list to start the year, though he wasn't particularly likely to break camp with the team even if healthy. He's thrown just 33 career big-league innings, struggling to an 8.18 ERA.

  • Royals' Chance Adams: Sent to IL

Adams (undisclosed) was placed on the injured list Thursday, Jeffrey Flanagan of MLB.com reports.

It's unclear what Adams is dealing with or how long it will keep him sidelined. He figures to fill a low-leverage relief role once he's healthy.

  • Royals' Chance Adams: Traded to Royals

Adams was traded to the Royals from the Yankees on Monday in exchange for Cristian Perez, Mark Feinsand of MLB.com reports.

Adams saw limited major-league action in each of the past two seasons, but he was designated for assignment in order to make room for Gerrit Cole on the 40-man roster. The right-hander was very productive at Double-A and Triple-A in 2017, but he has declined over the past two years, recording a 4.57 ERA with a 1.39 WHIP over 200.2 innings at the Triple-A level in 2018 and 2019. It wouldn't be surprising to see the 25-year-old see some low-leverage bullpen situations in the majors with the Royals sometime in 2020, but he'll have to rebound if he hopes to play a more significant role.

  • Yankees' Chance Adams: Bumped off 40-man roster

The Yankees designated Adams for assignment Wednesday.

Once one of the organization's most prized pitching prospects, Adams' development plateaued after he churned out a 2.89 ERA, 1.08 WHIP and 103 strikeouts in 115.1 innings with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre in 2017. He appeared in 13 games with the big club in 2019 but worked exclusively in relief, giving up 24 earned runs on 39 hits and 11 walks over just 25.1 innings. If Adams clears waivers, he'll likely stay in the organization and open the 2020 campaign back at Triple-A.

  • Yankees' Chance Adams: Recalled by Yankees

Adams was recalled from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Sunday.

Adams has worked sparingly with the big-league club throughout the season, serving a role as a multiple-inning reliever. He hasn't been particularly effective, allowing multiple earned runs in four of his eight appearances. That's resulted in a 7.48 ERA and 1.85 WHIP, so it's unlikely he sees any type of role in high-leverage situations.

  • Yankees' Chance Adams: Sent back to minors

Adams allowed five runs on 10 hits and three walks while striking out two over 3.2 innings Thursday night against the Indians. He was optioned to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre after the game.

Adams was lit up by Cleveland on the way to a 19-5 loss in the series opener, though his team was already facing a big deficit when he entered the game. The 25-year-old has now given up at least one run in each of his last six outings, resulting in a demotion. He's accrued a 7.48 ERA and 1.85 WHIP with a 16:10 K:BB over 21.2 innings this season in the majors.

The Yankees have yet to announce a corresponding roster move. Adams served as the 26th man for New York's doubleheader against the Red Sox over the weekend, allowing two runs on three hits over two innings. The soon-to-be 25-year-old has given up 11 runs across 14 big-league innings this season.
