Marlins' Cristian Hernandez: Flipped to Marlins
The Marlins acquired Hernandez, Owen Caissie and Edgardo De Leon from the Cubs on Wednesday in exchange for Edward Cabrera, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports.
Hernandez spent the 2025 season at High-A South Bend, slashing .252/.329/.365 with seven home runs and 52 stolen bases. He hasn't reached his potential after being a top international signing in 2021, but Hernandez just turned 22 last month, so he has some time to show progress.

Cubs' Cristian Hernandez: Reaches High-A
Hernandez hit .229 with zero home runs, seven steals and a 19:15 K:BB in 23 games for High-A South Bend.
A high-pedigree international signee from the Cubs' 2020 international signing class that had to wait to sign until Jan. 15, 2021 due to the pandemic, Hernandez has failed to meet very high expectations. Known now more for his defense and speed than his bat, Hernandez has been a passive hitter who struggles to lift the ball (groundball rates over 50 percent) against full-season pitching. He slashed .269/.382/.406 with five home runs, 37 steals and a 22.9 percent strikeout rate in 95 games for Single-A Myrtle Beach and will turn 21 this winter.

Cubs' Cristian Hernandez: Decent start in rookie ball
Hernandez is hitting .292/.365/.385 with two homers, one steal and an 8:21 BB:K for the rookie-level ACL Cubs.
The highly touted 18-year-old hasn't shown off much power or speed yet in his first taste of stateside baseball, but he's been getting his reps in and picking up plenty of base knocks. While Hernandez is going to need plenty of time to fill out and develop his skills in the minors, he's got tantalizing upside and is a must-roster player in any format where fantasy managers can afford to wait on him.

Cubs' Cristian Hernandez: Playing in extended spring training
Hernandez, who has not yet made his stateside minor-league debut, is currently playing in extended spring training games at the Cubs' Arizona complex.
The top international signing in last year's class, Hernandez is just 18 and already clocks in at 6-foot-2, 175 pounds, with his scouting reports landing him in the top 100 on nearly every prospect list. He looked good in the Dominican Summer League last year, too, putting together a .285/.398/.424 line with five homers, 21 steals and a 30:39 BB:K in 47 games. It seems like he's on track to play for the ACL Cubs once rookie ball gets going officially this summer.
