Marlins manager Clayton McCullough said Monday that Mack is dealing with a stiff neck but should return to the Grapefruit League lineup in a couple days, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.
McCullough noted that if it were the regular season, Mack would most likely play through the injury. Mack has appeared in seven games this spring for Miami, going 3-for-18 with one home run at the dish. He's third on the Marlins' catching depth chart and will begin the season at Triple-A Jacksonville, barring an injury to Agustin Ramirez or Liam Hicks.

Mack went 1-for-3 with a grand slam in the Marlins' Grapefruit League game against the Phillies on Tuesday.
The fifth-inning blast came off minor-league pitcher Andrew Walling, but it was still a statement of intent from Mack that he's not interested in heading back to Triple-A Jacksonville to begin the season. The top catching prospect slashed .252/.323/.463 in 98 games last year with the Jumbo Shrimp, slugging 18 homers, and his defense looks ready for the majors already, although he was charged with a throwing error on a pickoff attempt Tuesday. Mack's biggest hurdle to a spot on the 26-man roster is the fact that Agustin Ramirez and Liam Hicks are ahead of him on the depth chart, but Ramirez still has a lot of work to do on defense to prove he's capable of sticking behind the plate long term. A rough start to 2026 with the glove for the 24-year-old could open the door for Mack to make his MLB debut early in the season.

The 22-year-old backstop walked it off for the Jumbo Shrimp in the bottom of the 10th inning, giving Mack his 20th homer of the year between Double-A and Triple-A. He's gone yard in four straight games, and over his last 12 contests for Jacksonville he's slashing .325/.383/.950 with 10 of his 13 hits (two doubles, a triple and seven homers) going for extra bases. The presence of Agustin Ramirez ahead of him on the organizational depth chart complicates his timeline, but Mack appears ready to make his big-league debut in 2026, and he could be competing for a 26-man roster spot in spring training.

His contributions didn't end with his bat -- the catcher also guided four Jumbo Shrimp pitchers to a combined no-hitter and 14 strikeouts over nine innings. Mack appears to be finding his groove again after a month-long slump from late May into June that saw him slash .133/.216/.173 with a 29.5 percent strikeout rate in 88 plate appearances. Over his last four games, he's gone 9-for-18 with a double and two homers. With Agustin Ramirez leading a trio of backstops on the big-league roster, the Marlins have the luxury of not rushing Mack to the majors, but he could be ready to contribute in Miami later on this season.

The 22-year-old catching prospect began the season at Double-A Pensacola to get everyday playing time while Agustin Ramirez handled duties behind the plate at Jacksonville, but Ramirez's promotion to the majors allowed Mack to rise a level as well. The 31st overall pick in the 2021 First-Year Player Draft is also drawing good grades for his defense, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports. "He's getting off great throws", catching coach Joe Singley said Sunday. "Defensively he's great, and he's doing a great job working with the pitching staff and the coaching staff [in Jacksonville]." Having Ramirez ahead of him in the pipeline blocks his path, not to mention the presence of Nick Fortes and Liam Hicks on the big-league roster, but Mack could be ready to push for a spot with the Marlins in spring training next year.

Mack is slashing .237/.317/.457 with 22 home runs and a 26.1 percent strikeout rate in 109 games for Double-A Pensacola.
The No. 31 overall pick in 2021, Mack hadn't made much noise as a prospect prior to this season. He was quickly promoted from High-A Beloit after hitting .347 with two home runs and as many walks (11) as strikeouts in 13 games, and now he's up to 24 homers on the season in 122 games across the two levels. The 21-year-old lefty-hitting backstop has been 28 percent better than the average Southern League hitter, which is a very strong mark for an age-appropriate catching prospect. Mack has as good a shot as anyone at being Miami's catcher of the future, and he could be a 20-plus homer option at the position during his peak MLB seasons.
