  Pasquantino signed a two-year, $11 million contract with the Royals on Friday to avoid arbitration, Anne Rogers of MLB.com reports. Incentives could increase the value of Pasquantino's new deal to as much as $16 million. The 28-year-old first baseman played in all but two games for the Royals in 2025, slashing .264/.323/.475 across 682 plate appearances while tallying career-high totals in home runs (32), RBI (113) and runs scored (72). He will still have one more year of team control remaining at the end of his contract.

Pasquantino didn't even need to play all nine frames to accomplish the feat, as he was lifted in the seventh for Randal Grichuk when Kansas City was up 10-1. The 27-year-old Pasquantino is enjoying the best season of his four-year career, producing a .269/.326/.476 slash line with 30 homers, 106 RBI and 67 runs scored across 645 total plate appearances.

Pasquantino was pulled from the game following his first-inning at-bat, which ended with a strikeout. Though being removed from a game early is very rarely a positive occurrence, the reason for his exit gives reason to hope that he's not dealing with anything serious. It's unclear if Pasquantino will be able to return to the lineup Sunday for the series finale, however.

Pasquantino appeared to show discomfort after taking a swing in his lone plate appearance. He remained in the contest to finish the at-bat but was replaced by Nick Loftin -- who had started in left field -- at first base for the top of the second inning.
