  • Mets' Calvin Ziegler: Returns from IL at High-A

High-A Brooklyn reinstated Ziegler (elbow) from its 7-day injured list Friday. Ziegler didn't make any appearances over the weekend, but he's considered healthy again despite posting a 10.80 ERA, 3.60 WHIP and 5:6 K:BB in 3.1 innings over five rehab appearances between the rookie-level Florida Complex League and Single-A St. Lucie over the past month. The right-hander missed most of the 2024 season and all of the 2025 season after undergoing Tommy John surgery.

  • Mets' Calvin Ziegler: Will undergo Tommy John surgery

Ziegler is set to undergo season-ending Tommy John surgery on his right elbow in the near future, Michael Mayer of MetsmerizedOnline.com reports. High-A Brooklyn placed him on its full-season injured list Wednesday. Ziegler has had terrible luck on the injury front the since the Mets selected him in the second round of the 2021 First-Year Player Draft. He's flashed plenty of promise when on the mound, including this season, when he had a 13:2 K:BB over six hitless innings with Brooklyn. However, the 21-year-old is now looking at a second straight lost season after elbow and quadricep injuries limited him to just one start in 2023.

  • Mets' Calvin Ziegler: Earns save in Spring Breakout game

Ziegler (quadricep) struck out two over a perfect seventh inning to earn the save Friday in the Mets' 4-2 win over the Nationals in a Spring Breakout game. In a game featuring exclusively prospects from the Nationals' and Mets' farm systems, Ziegler was one of the more impressive performers. The 21-year-old closed the 2023 season on Single-A St. Lucie's 60-day injured list after suffering a torn right quadricep tendon while completing his rehab from the surgery he underwent last spring to remove bone spurs from his elbow. He previously missed time with biceps tendinitis in 2022, limiting Ziegler to just 17 total starts over his first two seasons in the professional ranks. He appears fully healthy heading into the 2024 campaign, however, as he displayed a sharp fastball that hit 97 miles per hour Friday and also had his looping curveball working effectively, per Andrew Tredinnick of The Bergen Record.

  • Mets' Calvin Ziegler: Tears quad, done for season

Ziegler (elbow) recently suffered a torn right quadriceps tendon and is expected to miss the rest of the season, Michael Mayer of MetsmerizedOnline.com reports. The 20-year-old right-hander has already been residing on Single-A St. Lucie's 60-day injured list all season after he underwent surgery in March to remove bone spurs in his right elbow. He presumably suffered the quad tear while rehabbing and won't be on track to return to the mound for the second half of the season, as had previously been expected. The lost year of development time is frustrating for Ziegler, a 2021 second-round pick who turned in a 4.44 ERA and 70:35 K:BB in 46.2 innings with St. Lucie during the 2022 season.

  • Mets' Calvin Ziegler: Bone spurs removed

Ziegler is recovering from a surgery to remove bone spurs from his right elbow, Sam Dykstra of MLB.com reports. The 20-year-old righty has logged just 46.2 innings (all last year at Single-A) since being drafted out of high school in the second round of the 2021 draft. As far as elbow surgeries are concerned, this is on the minor side, so Ziegler could return sometime this summer.
