  • Athletics' Will Klein: Shelved at Triple-A

Triple-A Las Vegas placed Klein on its 7-day injured list Aug. 31 with an unspecified injury. Acquired from the Royals at the trade deadline, Klein initially reported to Oakland and made three appearances for the big club before being optioned to the minors Aug. 17. He gave up three earned runs on six hits and five walks over 5.1 innings across four outings prior to landing on Las Vegas' IL.

  • Athletics' Will Klein: Sent to Las Vegas

The Athletics optioned Klein to Triple-A Las Vegas on Saturday. Klein gave up five earned runs on two hits and four walks while recording one strikeout in 1.2 innings across three appearances since the Athletics acquired him from the Royals at the deadline as part of the return for Lucas Erceg. The 24-year-old righty walks too many batters (16.3 percent walk rate at Triple-A, 15.8 percent walk rate in the majors) to work in high-leverage situations anytime soon.

  • Athletics' Will Klein: Acquired by Oakland

The Athletics acquired Klein, Jared Dickey and Mason Barnett from the Royals on Tuesday in exchange for Lucas Erceg, Mark Feinsand of MLB.com reports. Klein has allowed four runs in 5.2 frames during his brief time in the majors this season. He's put up a 30.7 percent strikeout rate but also a 16.1 percent walk rate in the minors. Klein had been on the Royals' major-league roster, but it's not clear whether he'll report to Oakland or Triple-A Las Vegas.

  • Royals' Will Klein: Sent back to Triple-A

The Royals optioned Klein to Triple-A Omaha on Monday. Kansas City will swap Klein out of its bullpen for right-hander Dan Altavilla, whose contract was selected from Omaha ahead of Monday's game against the Yankees. Klein was unlikely to be available out of the bullpen for at least a couple of days anyway after he had given up two runs on six hits and two walks over 2.2 innings between relief appearances Friday and Sunday versus the Mariners.

  • Royals' Will Klein: Picks up first big-league win

Klein (1-0) struck out one in a perfect inning to earn the win Sunday over the Padres. Klein worked the ninth inning while the Royals were down 3-1, and they rallied for a walk-off win in their half of the frame. The rookie right-hander has displayed some promise with five strikeouts over his first three innings in the majors, though he's also allowed two runs and four hits. Klein figures to operate in a low-leverage role as long as he's on the Royals' 26-man roster. He's pitched to a 1.93 ERA, 0.95 WHIP and 23:14 K:BB over 23.1 innings at Triple-A Omaha this season, showing significant growth from 2023.

Kansas City recalled Klein from Triple-A Omaha on Friday. The 24-year-old righty will rejoin the Royals after being optioned down in late April, while southpaw Daniel Lynch gets sent down to Omaha in a corresponding move. Klein has seen just one inning with Kansas City this year and logged two strikeouts with no runs allowed.

  • Royals' Will Klein: Sent back to minors

The Royals optioned Klein to Triple-A Omaha on Monday. Klein struck out two in a scoreless inning Sunday versus the Tigers in what was his major-league debut. He eventually has a chance to play an important role in the Royals bullpen this season, but for now Klein, will head back to Omaha to make room for Monday's starter, Jonathan Bowlan, who was called up from Triple-A in a corresponding move.

  • Royals' Will Klein: Optioned to Triple-A

The Royals optioned Klein to Triple-A Omaha on Friday. Klein was added to the Royals' 40-man roster in November after posting a 5.66 ERA and 1.85 WHIP across 35 innings in Triple-A last season. He struck out six batters over 3.2 scoreless frames during spring training, but he will need to prove he can find consistent success in the minors before getting the call to join Kansas City's bullpen.
