  • Athletics' Dany Jimenez: Optioned to Las Vegas

The Athletics optioned Jimenez to Triple-A Las Vegas on Saturday. Jimenez has given up six earned runs in two innings over his last two appearances, so the A's will now send him to Triple-A in order to get back on track. Hogan Harris was recalled from Las Vegas to fill the open spot on Oakland's pitching staff.

  • Athletics' Dany Jimenez: Takes loss in IL return

Jimenez (1-3) took the extra-inning loss to the Giants on Sunday, allowing three runs (two earned) on two hits over one inning. He struck out three. Jimenez was thrown right into the mix following his activation from the IL earlier in the day, as he was called on to preserve a 1-1 tie in the 10th after closer Mason Miller had handled the ninth. Jimenez immediately faltered by surrendering a two-run home run to Jerar Encarnacion with Matt Chapman aboard, and he followed it up by conceding a solo shot to the very next batter, Michael Conforto. The right-hander then bore down to record three consecutive swinging strikeouts, but the damage was done. Despite the long-ball issues in his return, Jimenez has typically been one of the most trusted later-inning options in Oakland's bullpen over the last two-plus seasons, and he's therefore likely to continue seeing plenty of hold opportunities, at minimum.

  • Athletics' Dany Jimenez: Scored on in third rehab outing

Jimenez (oblique) allowed two earned runs on two hits, a walk, a hit batsman and a wild pitch over one-plus inning in Triple-A Las Vegas' loss to Oklahoma City on Tuesday. He struck out one. Jimenez saw his ERA dinged for the first time in his three minor-league rehab appearances, as he allowed one run on a wild pitch in the sixth before being charged with a second run after getting the hook following an inning-opening walk in the seventh. The poor control pushed Jimenez's pitch count up to 27, his highest yet by far during his time with the Aviators. It remains to be seen if the Athletics will deem the reliever ready for return despite the rough outing, or whether they'll give Jimenez at least one opportunity to reset himself.

  • Athletics' Dany Jimenez: Another successful rehab appearance

Jimenez (oblique) fired a scoreless, hitless seventh inning during Triple-A Las Vegas' win over Sacramento on Saturday, allowing a walk and recording a strikeout. Jimenez put together a scoreless frame for the second time in as many rehab appearances, working up to 15 pitches Saturday. The right-hander appears to have tolerated his first two minor-league outings well thus far, so he may only need one more, if that, before being deemed ready for activation.

  • Athletics' Dany Jimenez: Lands on IL with strained oblique

The Athletics placed Jimenez on the 15-day injured list Sunday due to a strained left oblique. In his most recent relief outing Wednesday against the Royals, Jimenez recorded a hold while throwing one scoreless inning, but he may have injured his oblique at some point. He's been one of Oakland's best options out of the bullpen since being recalled from Triple-A Las Vegas on May 31, posting a 2.00 ERA and 1.33 WHIP over nine innings. With Jimenez headed to the IL, the Athletics selected Aaron Brooks' contract from Las Vegas in a corresponding move.

  • Athletics' Dany Jimenez: Grabs first save

Jimenez earned the save in Saturday's 11-9 win over Atlanta, allowing one hit while logging a strikeout in the ninth inning. Atlanta made things interesting after Matt Olson led off the ninth with a double. However, Jimenez, making his first appearance in the majors following his demotion to Triple-A Las Vegas in early May, was able to set down the next three batters in order, earning his first save of the campaign. Mason Miller, the A's regular closer, was likely unavailable Saturday after pitching two innings Thursday. However, Jimenez could find himself slotted back into a high-leverage role due to Lucas Erceg (forearm) being placed on the IL. Overall, the 30-year-old Jimenez sports a 3.45 ERA with a 1.47 WHIP and 12:13 K:BB across 15.2 innings this year.

  • Athletics' Dany Jimenez: Recalled Friday

Jimenez was recalled from Triple-A Las Vegas by Oakland on Friday. Jimenez will rejoin the Athletics just a month after being sent down to the team's Triple-A affiliate. The 30-year-old righty has appeared in 15 games with Oakland this year, recording a 3.68 ERA and 1.50 WHIP across 14.2 innings.

  • Athletics' Dany Jimenez: Effective since demotion

Jimenez, who was optioned to Triple-A Las Vegas on Tuesday, fired two perfect innings with four strikeouts over his first two relief appearances with the Aviators on Friday and Sunday. He also recorded a save in the latter outing. It's a small sample, but the decision to demote Jimenez after a couple of uneven outings earlier in May appears to have been a prudent one. The right-hander has breezed through his first pair of minor-league appearances, and if he continues on a similar track, Jimenez could soon find himself back on the big-league roster.

  • Athletics' Dany Jimenez: Falters again Tuesday

Jimenez (1-1) was charged with a loss and a blown save against the Cardinals on Tuesday, allowing two earned runs on a hit and two walks over one-third of an inning. Jimenez was entrusted with preserving a 2-1 lead when he entered in the sixth inning, but he immediately worked himself into trouble by allowing the first three hitters he faced to reach safely via a single and a pair of walks. Jimenez would go on to surrender back-to-back RBI sacrifice flies to allow the Cardinals to pull ahead by a run, which would prove the final margin of victory. The normally reliable right-hander has been a bit more vulnerable than usual of late, being saddled with blown saves in two of his last three outings while giving up a total of three runs on four hits over 2.2 innings in that span.

  • Athletics' Dany Jimenez: Gets ninth-inning opportunity

Jimenez (1-0) picked up the win Sunday against Cleveland, giving up one hit and one walk in one scoreless inning. He didn't log a strikeout. Jimenez was in contention for the closing role throughout the spring, but it appeared as though Mason Miller would be the first to get high-leverage ninth-inning duties. However, after Miller gave up two runs in one inning of work Saturday, Jimenez was handed the ball Sunday and took the A's home for their first win of the campaign. Considering the fluid closing situation and the lack of overall save chances, fantasy managers should be hesitant to rely upon any of Oakland's arms for save production.

  • Athletics' Dany Jimenez: Takes second loss Wednesday

Jimenez (0-2) took the loss against the Twins on Wednesday, allowing two earned runs on three hits and a wild pitch over one inning. Jimenez wasn't up to the task of preserving the 4-4 tie he inherited when entering in the eighth, allowing Max Kepler and Trevor Larnach to reach safely via a single and double, respectively, to lead off the frame, before advancing the latter to third on a wild pitch and then allowing him to cross the plate via Ryan Jeffers' run-scoring sacrifice fly. The right-hander's stumble snapped an extended stretch of strong performances for Jimenez, who'd generated scoreless appearances in 13 of his previous 14 trips to the mound, including six straight.

  • Athletics' Dany Jimenez: Back with big club

The Athletics recalled Jimenez from Triple-A Las Vegas on Sunday. Jimenez saved 11 games for Oakland a season ago, but he's struggled to return to form in 2023 after suffering a strained right shoulder in mid-April that cost him significant time. He was activated from the 60-day injured list earlier this month but made just one appearance out of the big-league bullpen before he was optioned to Las Vegas. Since reporting to Triple-A, Jimenez has looked much sharper, striking out nine over 4.1 no-hit innings across four appearances to earn the call back to Oakland. Trevor May looks to have solidified himself as Oakland's closer for the moment, but Jimenez could quickly rise up the depth chart and emerge as a key setup man.

  • Athletics' Dany Jimenez: First rehab appearance set

Jimenez (shoulder) is scheduled to make his first rehab appearance for Triple-A Las Vegas on Wednesday, the Associated Press reports. The right-hander is slated to be capped at 20 pitches in that initial outing, which will come three months to the day he was placed on the injured list with a right shoulder strain. Jimenez's ability to get through a 15-pitch live batting practice session without issues Saturday apparently gave the Athletics the confidence to have him return to game action, but the 29-year-old is likely set to spend at least a couple of weeks down on the farm given how long he's been sidelined.

  • Athletics' Dany Jimenez: Scheduled for live BP session

Jimenez (shoulder) will throw live batting practice Saturday, Sonja Chen of MLB.com reports. After earning his only save of the season Opening Day, Jimenez had his season interrupted by a right shoulder strain in mid-April. After a fairly long shutdown period, he began ramping up and now appears to be on the verge of embarking on a minor-league rehab assignment. He's no sure thing to return to a high-leverage role, but it's possible he could end up handling ninth-inning duties if the A's trade Trevor May. Jimenez is not arbitration eligible until 2025, making him less likely to be dealt in a fire sale.

  • Athletics' Dany Jimenez: Transferred to 60-day IL

The Athletics transferred Jimenez (shoulder) from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day IL on Wednesday. The transaction clears a spot on the 40-man roster for right-hander Mason Miller, who was summoned from Triple-A Las Vegas in advance of his first MLB start Wednesday versus the Cubs. Jimenez had been placed on the 15-day IL on Tuesday with the right shoulder strain, but his move to the 60-day IL now ensures that he'll be sidelined until at least the latter part of June. Trevor May was also placed on the 15-day IL on Wednesday while dealing with anxiety, likely leaving Zach Jackson as the top candidate to pick up any save opportunities the Athletics may face.

  • Athletics' Dany Jimenez: Can't hold down save Sunday

Jimenez was charged with a blown save in Sunday's loss to the Mets after allowing one run on one hit and three walks over just a third of an inning. Jimenez was able to get Francsico Lindor to ground out to begin the ninth before Pete Alonso tied things up with a monstrous blast to center field. Jimenez then proceeded to implode, walking three straight batters before being replaced by Sam Moll who wound up bailing him out after getting Eduardo Escobar to ground into a 6-4-3 double play. The 29-year-old has just one save on the year with the A's having lost 10 of their last 11, but still seems to be in the late-inning mix. After Sunday's outing, Jimenez owns a 5.40 ERA, 1.50 WHIP and a 4:6 K:BB over 6.2 innings.

  • Athletics' Dany Jimenez: A possible option for saves

Jimenez, Trevor May and Jeurys Familia could all be used in closer situations this season, Athletics manager Mark Kotsay told Matt Kawahara of the San Francisco Chronicle on Sunday. JImenez led the team with 11 saves last season, but his year ended with a shoulder injury and he's had velocity issues this spring. The 29-year-old could emerge as the team's best option if he's able to regain his velocity, but for now he's a mediocre reliever in a committee situation on a bad team.

  • Athletics' Dany Jimenez: Struggling with velocity

Jimenez has struggled with his velocity this spring, Matt Kawahara of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. Jimenez was throwing just 88-89 mph in his first Cactus League appearance before bumping it up to 91-93 mph his second time out. That's still down a bit from what he threw in 2022, which is especially concerning since he ended last season with a shoulder injury. Jimenez entered camp as arguably the favorite to close for the Athletics, but he'll probably need to show better velocity in order for the team to trust him in the role. Trevor May, Zach Jackson and Domingo Acevedo are alternatives for the closer job.

  • Athletics' Dany Jimenez: Placed on 60-day IL

Jimenez was placed on the 60-day injured list Saturday with a right shoulder srain. Jimenez last pitched Wednesday versus the Marlins and apparently left the appearance a little worse for wear, as his move to the 60-day IL with the strained shoulder ensures he'll miss the rest of the season. He finishes the 2022 campaign with a 3.41 ERA, 1.19 WHIP, 34 strikeouts, 11 saves and four holds over 34.1 innings in 34 appearances with the Athletics. Austin Pruitt had his contract selected from Triple-A Las Vegas on Saturday and will replace Jimenez in Oakland's bullpen.

  • Athletics' Dany Jimenez: Back from injured list

Jimenez (shoulder) was activated from the 15-day injured list Tuesday. Jimenez has been sidelined by a strained shoulder for the past six weeks, but he'll rejoin the Athletics' active roster Tuesday after making two minor-league rehab appearances. The 28-year-old has a 4.38 ERA and is 11-for-13 in save chances this season, and he should be in the ninth-inning mix alongside A.J. Puk and Zach Jackson after Lou Trivino was traded to the Yankees.
