  • Angels' Jose Marte: Returns from injured list

Marte (shoulder) was activated from the injured list and outrighted to Triple-A Salt Lake on Thursday. Marte underwent surgery on his right shoulder in mid-September and is presumably still recovering. He could be ready to throw by spring training, though no official timeline has been announced by the team.

  • Angels' Jose Marte: Undergoes shoulder surgery

Marte had successful right shoulder surgery in mid-September, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports. Marte's placement on the injured list Aug. 10 was due to a viral infection, and he was transferred to the 60-day IL on Aug. 30. The righty reliever reportedly "felt something in his shoulder" while trying to build up his arm strength, which resulted in the decision to shut down his throwing and have him undergo shoulder surgery, per MLB.com. It's unclear whether Marte will be ready to pitch when spring training comes around next year.

  • Angels' Jose Marte: Won't return in 2024

The Angels transferred Marte (illness) to the 60-day injured list Friday. Marte was placed on the 15-day injured list Aug. 10 due to a viral infection, and with Friday's shift to the 60-day IL, he won't be eligible to return during the 2024 regular season. The right-hander logged a 2.33 ERA in 19.1 big-league innings this season, a huge improvement on the 8.14 ERA he generated in 24.1 innings over the prior three years. The 28-year-old should be healthy in time for spring training.

  • Angels' Jose Marte: Joining active roster

The Angels recalled Marte from Triple-A Salt Lake on Saturday. The Angels' 26-man roster had an opening following a trade Saturday that sent Carlos Estevez to the Phillies in exchange for a pair of minor-league pitchers. Marte will fill that opening for his second MLB stint of the season. The 28-year-old right-hander pitched 12.2 innings during his first stint and logged a 3.55 ERA and 1.11 WHIP.

  • Angels' Jose Marte: Optioned to Salt Lake

The Angels optioned Marte to Triple-A Salt Lake on Thursday. Marte will end up as the odd man out of a roster spot as Jack Kochanowicz comes up from Double-A to start Thursday's game against the Mariners. Marte has posted the best numbers of his MLB career this season, logging a 3.55 ERA and 1.11 WHIP over 12.2 innings. He's been similarly as solid in the minor leagues (2.89 ERA in 18.2 innings), so there's a good chance the 28-year-old right-hander rejoins the Halos' bullpen at some point this season.

  • Angels' Jose Marte: Called up Saturday

The Angels selected Marte's contract from Triple-A Salt Lake on Saturday. Marte will join the major-league roster for the first time this season, replacing Adam Cimber (shoulder) in the bullpen after Cimber was placed on the 15-day injured list Saturday. Marte has appeared in 19 games with Salt Lake this year, compiling a 2.89 ERA and 1.10 WHIP with 19 strikeouts over 18.2 innings. Ehire Adrianza was released in a corresponding move to open a spot for Marte on the 40-man roster.

  • Angels' Jose Marte: Back with Halos

Marte signed a minor-league contract with the Angels on Monday, Robert Murray of FanSided.com reports. Marte was non-tendered by Los Angeles in November, and he'll now return to the organization on a minor-league deal for the 2024 season. The right-hander figures to provide bullpen depth as needed, though he's struggled to find his footing in the big leagues so far in his career.

  • Jose Marte: Hits open market

Marte was non-tendered by the Angels on Friday, MLB.com reports. Marte gave up nine runs while walking seven in 9.1 innings of relief for the Angels in 2023 and he struggled to a 7.36 ERA with the big club in 2022. The 27-year-old reliever averaged 95.2 mph with his fastball last season, which represents a career low over three MLB seasons.

  • Angels' Jose Marte: Optioned to Salt Lake

The Angels optioned Marte to Triple-A Salt Lake on Wednesday. Marte has allowed 10 runs -- nine earned -- in 9.1 major-league innings this season. Kelvin Caceres will fill the vacant spot in the Angels' bullpen ahead of Wednesday's game against the Rangers.

  • Angels' Jose Marte: Recalled from Triple-A

The Angels recalled Marte from Triple-A Salt Lake on Thursday. After losing four members of their pitching staff via waiver claims Thursday, Marte will come up from the minors to help replenish lost depth in the Angels' bullpen. The 27-year-old righty has spent most of the season working his way back from an elbow injury, and he holds a 7.80 ERA and 2.20 WHIP across 15 major-league innings in his career.

  • Angels' Jose Marte: Activated and optioned

Marte (elbow) was activated from the 60-day injured list and optioned to Triple-A Salt Lake on Tuesday. Marte struck out 10 batters and allowed two hits and two walks over 5.2 scoreless innings across five appearances for Salt Lake since moving his rehab assignment from the rookie-level Arizona Complex League on Aug. 8. He hasn't pitched in the majors this season while recovering from a right elbow stress reaction, and the Angels have opted to give him a little more time at Salt Lake. Marte owns a 7.80 ERA over 15 career appearances in the majors and would likely have to settle for a lower-leverage role out of the bullpen when he's given a chance with the big club.

  • Angels' Jose Marte: Shut down at least four weeks

The Angels announced Monday that Marte was diagnosed with a stress reaction in his right elbow and will be shut down for at least four weeks, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports. Marte had yet to make his Cactus League debut due to what manager Phil Nevin and Angels director of sports medicine Mike Frostad termed as "soreness," but the right-handed reliever is evidently dealing with a more significant issue than the team initially led on. Given that he won't be able to resume throwing until late April or early May, Marte will essentially have to complete his own version of spring training before being ready to contribute out of the Angels bullpen. Bollinger suggests that Marte is a likely candidate to move to the 60-day injured list if the Angels need to clear a spot on the 40-man roster for another player.

Marte was optioned to Triple-A Salt Lake on Tuesday. Marte has a 7.36 ERA, 2.36 WHIP and 15:18 K:BB in 11 innings in the majors across 11 appearances. Rob Zastryzny was recalled to take his place in the bullpen.

  • Angels' Jose Marte: Sent down Saturday

Marte was optioned to Triple-A Salt Lake on Saturday. Marte joined the Angels' bullpen in early July and posted a 5.06 ERA and 1.50 WHIP in 5.1 innings. However, he'll head back to the minors as part of a move after Touki Toussaint was called up Saturday.

  • Angels' Jose Marte: Optioned to Triple-A

Marte was optioned to Triple-A Salt Lake on Monday, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports. Marte made his big-league debut with four appearances down the stretch last year, and he won't make the Angels' Opening Day roster. He covered 7.1 innings for Salt Lake last season and allowed seven earned runs with a 7:5 K:BB.

  • Angels' Jose Marte: Sent to Triple-A

Marte was optioned to Triple-A Salt Lake after Wednesday's game. Marte made his major-league debut with the Angels on Aug. 20, but he was placed on the COVID-19 injured list just two days later. He was activated Sept. 17 and made three appearances since, allowing four earned runs -- all of which came in one outing -- across two innings of work.

  • Angels' Jose Marte: Takes loss in return

Marte (0-1) was tagged with the loss Friday against the Athletics after allowing an unearned run while walking two across 0.2 innings. Marte, who had been out nearly a month for undisclosed reasons, entered the game with one out in the sixth inning but was unable to get the job done due to some command issues. Aside from walking two of the four batters he faced, he only tossed six of his 18 pitches for strikes. Despite this shaky outing, Marte should remain in the Angels' bullpen for the remainder of the campaign.

  • Angels' Jose Marte: Expected back Friday

Marte (undisclosed) is expected to be activated for the Angels' series opener against Oakland on Friday, per MLB.com. Previous reports had Marte possibly returning Sunday, but it now appears that he will be activated ahead of schedule. The right-hander has pitched in only one game with the big club this season and will likely fill a low-leverage role upon his return.

  • Angels' Jose Marte: Could return Sunday

Marte (undisclosed) could be activated for the Angels' series finale against Oakland on Sunday, per MLB.com. Marte's only appearance on the mound for the Angels this season took place Aug. 20. He was placed on the injured list without a designation shortly thereafter, and he wasn't able to rejoin the club until early September. The right-hander has since been tossing bullpens and appears nearly ready to return to the active roster.

  • Angels' Jose Marte: Nearing return

Marte (undisclosed) tossed a bullpen session in San Diego on Wednesday and could be activated in the coming days, per MLB.com. The right-hander has been on the injured list since Aug. 22, and though a reason was never announced, it's likely that he has been navigating COVID-19 protocols. While he's pitched in only one game for the Angels this season, Marte could be given a spot in the bullpen upon his return.
