  • Phillies' Alan Rangel: Sent back to Triple-A

Rangel was optioned to Triple-A Lehigh Valley after Thursday's 6-1 loss to the Pirates, Matt Gelb of The Athletic reports. Rangel did not factor into the decision Thursday after he pitched four scoreless innings, surrendering three hits and four walks while striking out four batters during his start. He will now head back to Triple-A after combining to allow five runs while striking out 12 batters over 13 frames in three outings following his call-up June 22. Rangel's spot in the rotation is set to appear one more time before the All-Star break, and it remains to be seen if the Phillies go with a bullpen game or call up a spot starter for that game.

  • Phillies' Alan Rangel: Delivers four scoreless frames

Rangel did not factor into the decision Thursday against the Pirates, allowing three hits and four walks over four scoreless innings. He struck out four. Rangel had trouble with his command Thursday, throwing only 54 of his 90 pitches for strikes, though he was able to tiptoe his way through danger to hold the Pirates off the board. The outing was the first traditional start of the season for Rangel, whose previous three appearances came in bulk relief. Overall, the right-hander sports a 3.38 ERA with a 1.31 WHIP and 17:6 K:BB across 16 innings this season. Should he remain in the rotation, Rangel would line up for a road matchup with the Reds in his next outing.

  • Phillies' Alan Rangel: Takes loss in bulk relief

Rangel (0-1) took the loss against the Mets on Saturday, allowing four runs on four hits and two walks with four strikeouts over four innings. Rangel pitched well early but unraveled in a four-run sixth inning he was unable to escape. Through three outings with the Phillies this season, the 28-year-old owns a 4.50 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and 13:2 K:BB across 12 innings. He gave up just one run in each of his first two appearances. Should he remain in the club's rotation plans, he'd line up for a home matchup against the Pirates next week.

  • Phillies' Alan Rangel: Following opener Saturday

Rangel will serve as a bulk reliever in Saturday's game against the Mets, Scott Lauber of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports. Rangel allowed just one run in five innings while following Tim Mayza out of the bullpen Monday, so the Phillies will aim to recreate that success by having the two pitchers work together again Saturday.

  • Phillies' Alan Rangel: Drawing start Saturday

Rangel is slated to start Saturday's game against the Mets at Citi Field. Rangel is set to receive another turn through the Philadelphia rotation, this time as a traditional starter after previously pitching in bulk relief Monday after being recalled from Triple-A Lehigh Valley. The 28-year-old righty excelled while working behind opener Tim Mayza in a 4-1 loss to the Nationals, striking out four over five innings while yielding one earned run on five hits and no walks. Over two extended relief appearances with the big club this season, Rangel owns a 9:0 K:BB in eight innings, but his numbers over a much larger sample at Triple-A have been less impressive (3.99 ERA, 1.31 WHIP and 15.6 K-BB% in 70 innings).

  • Phillies' Alan Rangel: Impresses in bulk relief

Rangel did not factor into the decision Monday against the Nationals, allowing one run on five hits while striking out four over five innings. After opener Tim Mayza allowed a run in the first, Rangel kept Washington's offense in check and provided valuable length for a Philadelphia pitching staff that has been searching for rotation stability. It was just the seventh major-league appearance of Rangel's career after being recalled earlier Monday. He also impressed in his only previous outing for the Phillies this season, striking out five batters across three innings of one-run relief. Given Philadelphia's need for starting depth, Rangel could earn another opportunity as a member of the rotation. He has posted a respectable 3.99 ERA and 73:27 K:BB across 70 innings with Triple-A Lehigh Valley this season.

  • Phillies' Alan Rangel: Slated for bulk relief Monday

The Phillies recalled Rangel from Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Monday. Rangel is expected to work in bulk relief behind opening pitcher Tim Mayza during Monday's road game against the Nationals, per Matt Gelb of The Athletic. The 28-year-old fanned five over three innings of one-run ball out of the bullpen in an appearance for the Phillies earlier this season, and he holds a 3.99 ERA and 73:27 K:BB across 70 frames with Lehigh Valley. With Andrew Painter back in the minors, Rangel could get a chance to stick around in Philadelphia as the fifth member of the rotation.

The Phillies recalled Rangel from Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Tuesday. Rangel has made four starts for Lehigh Valley this season, turning in a 1.66 ERA and 18:10 K:BB over 21.2 frames. The Phillies optioned Rangel to Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Sunday. The Phillies recalled Rangel from Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Tuesday, Lochlahn March of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports. Since his demotion to Triple-A in late June, Rangel has posted a 3.86 ERA and 1.35 WHIP alongside a 17:8 K:BB through 16.1 innings. He'll now rejoin the Phillies' pitching staff as a replacement for the injured Joe Ross (back) and presumably take on a long-relief role.

  • Phillies' Alan Rangel: Moved down to Triple-A

The Phillies optioned Rangel to Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Saturday. Rangel pitched five scoreless innings of relief Friday, but he'll return to Lehigh Valley so the Phillies can add a fresh arm to the bullpen in Daniel Robert. Rangel owns a 4.96 ERA in 69 innings at Lehigh Valley this season.

  • Phillies' Alan Rangel: Brought up from Triple-A

The Phillies recalled Rangel from Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Sunday. Right-hander Michael Mercado was optioned to Triple-A to make room on the 26-man active roster and in the bullpen for Rangel. The 27-year-old right-hander previously made his MLB debut in a three-inning relief appearance June 7 and will likely serve as a lower-leverage arm during his latest stint with the Phillies.

  • Phillies' Alan Rangel: Returns to minors

The Phillies optioned Rangel to Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Saturday. Rangel had just been called up from the minors Friday, and he gave the Phillies three innings of work against Pittsburgh that night, allowing two runs on three hits and two walks while striking out one batter. The righty reliever's return to Triple-A makes room for Philadelphia to call up a fresh bullpen arm from the minors in Daniel Robert.

  • Phillies' Alan Rangel: Headed to big leagues

The Phillies recalled Rangel from Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Friday. Rangel will provide some immediate help to the Phillies' bullpen ahead of Friday's bullpen game against the Pirates. He'll be making his MLB debut if he gets into a game. The 27-year-old has a 5.02 ERA in 57.1 innings spanning 12 starts for Lehigh Valley this season. Seth Johnson was optioned in a corresponding move.

  • Phillies' Alan Rangel: Optioned to Triple-A

The Phillies optioned Rangel to Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Monday, Scott Lauber of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports. Rangel made two appearances for the Phillies in spring training and allowed one run on two hits and one walk while striking out two across three innings. He'll begin the 2025 regular season in Triple-A, but the 27-year-old reliever could see some time in the majors at some point this season if the Phillies need to bolster their bullpen.

  • Braves' Alan Rangel: Sent back to minors

Atlanta optioned Rangel to Triple-A Gwinnett on Tuesday. Unless Atlanta loses another pitcher to an injury or needs a fresh arm out of the bullpen in the final week of the season, Rangel is unlikely to resurface in the majors again in 2022. The 25-year-old right-hander didn't get the chance to make his MLB debut after being called up from Double-A Mississippi on Saturday, but he already picked up his fair share of work in the minors this season. He started 26 games for Mississippi, turning in a 5.26 ERA, 1.51 WHIP and 139:50 K:BB across 114.2 frames.

  • Braves' Alan Rangel: Called up Saturday

Rangel was recalled from Double-A Mississippi on Saturday. Rangel has spent the year at Mississippi and has posted a 5.26 ERA and 1.51 WHIP in 114.2 innings over 26 starts. Although he's served exclusively as a starter in the minors this year, it's possible that he takes on a long-relief role for Atlanta since Bryce Elder is available to claim a rotation spot after Spencer Strider (oblique) was placed on the 15-day injured list.
