Top Brewer Hicklen News

  • Braves' Brewer Hicklen: Demoted to Triple-A

Atlanta optioned Hicklen to Triple-A Gwinnett on Monday.

Hicklen has gone 7-for-19 during his limited chances with the big club, but he hasn't played much lately and his reps would have dipped further with Ronald Acuna coming off the injured list. The 30-year-old will report to Gwinnett, where he will see more regular playing time.

  • Braves' Brewer Hicklen: Sitting in fourth straight game

Hicklen is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Orioles.

Hicklen and Eli White had been sharing reps in right field coming out of the All-Star break, but Mike Yastrzemski has taken over primary duties at that position since being activated from the injured list Tuesday. Yastrzemski will eventually move to left field or designated hitter when Ronald Acuna (hamstring) returns from the IL, which could happen as soon as Monday. Hicklen -- who is out of the lineup for a fourth straight game Sunday -- could be optioned to Triple-A Gwinnett to pick up regular at-bats once Acuna is activated.

  • Braves' Brewer Hicklen: Sitting Monday

Hicklen is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Padres.

Since being promoted from Triple-A Gwinnett on July 11, Hicklen has started in Atlanta's last three matchups versus right-handed pitching, but he's sat the last two times the club has matched up against lefties. Eli White will get the nod in right field Monday, but both he and Hicklen will see their playing time tail off when Ronald Acuna (hamstring) potentially returns from the injured list later this week.

  • Braves' Brewer Hicklen: Second straight start in right

Hicklen will start in right field and bat ninth in Friday's game versus the Rangers.

Hicklen has started in right field against two straight right-handers since he was called up last weekend. However, with Ronald Acuna (hamstring) due back from the injured list any day now, Hicklen could either head to the bench or back to the minors soon.

  • Braves' Brewer Hicklen: Recalled from Gwinnett

Atlanta recalled Hicklen from Triple-A Gwinnett on Saturday.

Since joining the 40-man roster in mid-June, Hicklen has slashed .259/.330/.506 with five homers, 20 RBI, 16 runs and four steals across 91 plate appearances. He'll now join the big club for the first time this season to replace the injured Mike Yastrzemski (elbow). Hicklen and Eli White will likely compete for starts in the outfield until Yastrzemski is healthy.

  • Braves' Brewer Hicklen: Added to 40-man roster, optioned

Atlanta selected Hicklen's contract and optioned him to Triple-A Gwinnett on Tuesday, Lindsay Crosby of BravesToday.com reports.

Hicklen likely had an opt-out clause in his minor-league contract, and Atlanta has chosen to add him to its 40-man roster to prevent the outfielder from leaving the organization. The 30-year-old has mashed at Gwinnett in 2026, slashing .316/.381/.519 with 11 home runs and 21 stolen bases. Hicklen could get an opportunity with the big club if Ronald Acuna's hamstring injury lingers, but he'll remain at Gwinnett for the time being.

  • Braves' Brewer Hicklen: Sent out of big-league camp

Atlanta reassigned Hicklen to minor-league camp Monday.

Hicklen appeared in one big-league game last season but otherwise served as outfield depth at the Triple-A level for the Tigers and Phillies organizations, slashing a collective .221/.318/.403 with 16 home runs and 25 stolen bases over 95 games. After failing to win a spot on Atlanta's Opening Day roster, Hicklen is expected to begin the 2026 campaign at Triple-A Gwinnett.

Hicklen cleared waivers and was outrighted to Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Friday.

  • Phillies' Brewer Hicklen: Designated for assignment

The Phillies designated Hicklen for assignment Tuesday.

The Phillies selected Rafael Lantigua to the active roster Tuesday to make up for the loss of Edmundo Sosa (groin), which pushed Hicklen off the 40-man roster. The 29-year-old has spent the majority of the season as organizational depth at Triple-A, slashing .224/.319/.409 across 386 plate appearances.

  • Phillies' Brewer Hicklen: Traded to Phillies

The Tigers traded Hicklen to the Phillies on Saturday in exchange for cash, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.

The 29-year-old lost his place on Detroit's 40-man roster Wednesday to make room for Troy Melton, but Hicklen will reclaim a 40-man roster spot with his new club. He'll remain in Triple-A, however, where he's slashed .227/.335/.394 across 254 plate appearances.

  • Tigers' Brewer Hicklen: Dropped from 40-man roster

The Tigers designated Hicklen for assignment Wednesday.

He will give up his spot on the 40-man roster to right-hander Troy Melton, whose contract was selected from Triple-A Toledo ahead of his first MLB start Wednesday against the Pirates. The 29-year-old outfielder appeared in one game for Detroit in May but has otherwise spent the bulk of the 2025 campaign at Toledo, slashing .227/.335/.394 with eight home runs and 18 stolen bases over 254 plate appearances.

  • Tigers' Brewer Hicklen: Rejoins Toledo lineup

Hicklen (hamstring) was assigned to Triple-A Toledo on Tuesday and started in right field in the club's 10-5 win over Louisville, going 1-for-3 with a walk and two runs.

Hicklen returned to action for Toledo for the first time since May 11, after a tight hamstring kept him out of commission for a couple of weeks. Though he was never placed on the 7-day injured list, Hicklen was assigned to High-A West Michigan over the weekend for what essentially amounted to a rehab assignment. Hicklen received the green light to rejoin Toledo after playing in two games for West Michigan.

  • Tigers' Brewer Hicklen: Working through hamstring injury

Hicklen was transferred from Triple-A Toledo to High-A West Michigan on Saturday while working through hamstring tightness, Emily Waldon of Baseball America reports.

Hicklen will avoid a stint on the 7-day injured list, but the 29-year-old outfielder will move down to High-A for extra at-bats and is expected to return to Toledo next week. Hicklen is slashing .230/.358/.290 with 13 steals, one home run and four RBI in 120 plate appearances in Triple-A this season.

  • Tigers' Brewer Hicklen: Optioned to Triple-A

The Tigers optioned Hicklen to Triple-A Toledo on Friday.

Hicklen picked up the first two hits of his major-league career Thursday in Colorado but finds himself back in the minors a day later. He's clearing out to make room on the roster for John Brebbia's (triceps) return from the 15-day injured list.

  • Tigers' Brewer Hicklen: Two hits, steal in Game 2 win

Hicklen went 2-for-3 with a walk, a stolen base and two runs scored in an 11-1 win over the Rockies in the second game of Thursday's doubleheader.

The hits were Hicklen's first as a big leaguer, with this being his 10th game in the majors over parts of three seasons. This was his Tigers debut after he failed to appear in a game during a brief stint in the majors in April. The Tigers are dealing with injuries in the outfield, but it's unclear if Hicklen will get a longer look. He started in center field in the nightcap of Thursday's doubleheader, but that's been where Javier Baez has been playing -- and excelling -- in recent weeks.

The Tigers recalled Hicklen from Triple-A Toledo on Thursday.

Hicklen didn't appear in a game during his last stint with the big-league club in April, but he'll get an opportunity to make his season debut in center field during the second game of Thursday's twin bill against Colorado. The 29-year-old has slashed .242/.368/.305 through 114 plate appearances in Triple-A and remains in search of his first career major-league hit.

The Tigers optioned Hicklen to Triple-A Toledo on Friday.

Hicklen was with the big club for only a couple days and didn't make an appearance. The Tigers will announce a corresponding move prior to Friday's game in Minnesota, which is likely to be Gleyber Torres (oblique) being activated from the 10-day injured list.

  • Tigers' Brewer Hicklen: Moving up to majors

The Tigers recalled Hicklen from Triple-A Toledo on Tuesday.

Hicklen will provide the Tigers with an extra right-handed bat off the bench with Detroit placing Manuel Margot (knee) on the 10-day injured list in a corresponding move. The 29-year-old Hicklen has logged just nine total plate appearances in the majors but was a standout performer at the Triple-A level for the Brewers' affiliate in Nashville in 2024, slashing .246/.363/.470 with 22 home runs and 44 stolen bases in 499 plate appearances. Hicklen could serve as a short-side platoon outfielder while he's up with the Tigers.

  • Tigers' Brewer Hicklen: Dealt to Motor City

The Tigers acquired Hicklen from the Brewers on Friday in exchange for cash and optioned him to Triple-A Toledo.

Hicklen was dropped from the Brewers' 40-man roster Thursday in order to create room for Jake Bauers, but the former will reclaim a roster spot upon joining his new organization. The 29-year-old outfielder slashed .246/.363/.470 in Triple-A last season but isn't likely to spend much time in the majors this year.
