  • Twins' Edouard Julien: Sitting versus lefty

Julien is absent from the lineup for Friday's game against the Orioles. It's lefty Cade Povich on the mound for the Orioles, but Julien hardly played lately regardless of the handedness of the opposing pitcher, starting just one of the last nine contests. Ryan Jeffers will be the Twins' designated hitter and will bat seventh.

  • Twins' Edouard Julien: Losing work vs. righties

Julien is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Guardians. Julien looks like he could be moving out of the strong-side platoon role at second base that he's held since receiving a call-up from Triple-A St. Paul in mid-August. He'll hit the bench for the third time in four games Wednesday, with two of those absences coming against right-handed pitchers.

  • Twins' Edouard Julien: On bench Monday vs. lefty

Julien is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Guardians. The lefty-hitting Julien will remain on the bench for a second straight game, this time against a lefty (Matthew Boyd) after he was out of the lineup against Reds righty Rhett Lowder on Sunday. Julien should still see the bulk of the starts at second base until Max Kepler (knee) returns from the injured list, at which point super-utility man Willi Castro may see fewer opportunities in the outfield and instead find a home at the keystone.

  • Twins' Edouard Julien: Absent from lineup

Julien is not in the starting lineup for Sunday's game against the Reds, Aaron Gleeman of The Athletic reports. Julien will begin Sunday's game in the dugout after going 0-for-7 with three strikeouts over the first two games of the series. Kyle Farmer will start at second base and bat eighth against Cincinnati right-hander Rhett Lowder.

  • Twins' Edouard Julien: Avoiding southpaw matchup

Julien is absent from Monday's lineup against the Angels. With the Halos sending southpaw Reid Detmers to the mound Monday, the lefty-hitting Julien will retreat to the dugout. Kyle Farmer will start at second base and bat sixth.

  • Twins' Edouard Julien: Sitting against lefty

Julien is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against Atlanta. The lefty-hitting Julien will bow out of the starting nine while Atlanta sends a tough southpaw (Chris Sale) to the hill. Platoon mate Kyle Farmer will fill in for Julien at the keystone.

  • Twins' Edouard Julien: Racks up four hits in rout

Julien went 4-for-5 with a double and three runs in Wednesday's 11-4 victory against the Padres. Julien entered Wednesday having collected just two hits over 10 at-bats since returning from the minors Aug. 15. He doubled that hit total in the rout over the Padres, notching his first four-hit game since August of last year. He's gaining some traction in the Twins' lineup, starting four of the team's past six games with Brooks Lee on the injured list due to a shoulder injury.

  • Twins' Edouard Julien: Retreats to bench

Julien is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Phillies. Following his promotion from Triple-A St. Paul on Saturday, Julien started at second base for both games of the Twins' series with the Brewers, going 1-for-4 with a pair of walks. Though he should have a regular spot in the lineup against right-handed pitching while the Twins are without Royce Lewis (groin) and Carlos Correa (heel), the lefty-hitting Julien will likely sit frequently against left-handers. Julien will cede the keystone to Brooks Lee on Monday while the Twins take on southpaw Ranger Suarez.

  • Twins' Edouard Julien: Officially demoted to Triple-A

The Twins optioned Julien to Triple-A St. Paul on Monday. Julien put up a 132 OPS+ last season as a rookie and opened the 2024 campaign as the Twins' leadoff man against right-handed pitching. While he started off with an .830 OPS in April this season, he posted a .482 OPS with a 36.5 percent strikeout rate since May 1. Julien could regain a regular role with Minnesota later this season, but he'll head to St. Paul for now as he looks to get back on track. Willi Castro will likely take over as the Twins' primary second baseman, with Kyle Farmer being mixed in against lefties.

  • Twins' Edouard Julien: Demotion could be coming

Julien had a meeting with manager Rocco Baldelli and subsequently met with teammates after Sunday's win over the Astros, which could indicate the second baseman is headed to Triple-A St. Paul as Royce Lewis (quadriceps) is set to return from the 10-day injured list Tuesday, Dan Hayes of The Athletic reports. Julien hit out of the No. 9 hole Sunday and went 0-for-2 with a walk, which dropped his season slash line to .207/.309/.367 through 58 games. The 25-year-old has a 34 percent strikeout rate this year, and the return of Lewis provides an opportunity for Julien to get back on track in a lower-pressure environment. The Twins have yet to make an official announcement regarding Lewis and who he'll replace on the MLB roster.

  • Twins' Edouard Julien: Sitting versus southpaw

Julien is not in the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Yankees. With left-handed Carlos Rodon toeing the rubber for the Yankees, the lefty-swinging Julien will yield to Kyle Farmer at second base. Julien has made just two starts versus southpaws this season.

  • Twins' Edouard Julien: On base three times in loss

Julien went 2-for-4 with a walk, a run scored and a stolen base in Saturday's 10-8 loss to the Blue Jays. The 25-year-old Canadian put together a solid performance in Toronto as the Twins' leadoff hitter. The multi-hit performance was Julien's first since April 27, snapping a slump that had seen him hit just .097 (3-for-31) over the prior 12 games, while the steal was his fourth of the season, establishing a new career high after he swiped three in 109 games last year as a rookie.

  • Twins' Edouard Julien: Out of starting lineup

Julien is not a starter for Friday's matchup against the Blue Jays. The lefty batting infielder will get a break as southpaw Yusei Kikuchi takes the mound for Toronto. Kyle Farmer will start at second base and bat seventh in place of Julien.

  • Twins' Edouard Julien: Reached base three times

Julien went 1-for-2 with two RBI, two walks and a stolen base in Friday's win over Boston. Julien was stuck in an 0-for-11 drought since his last hit April 27. The lefty slugger drove in a run with a third-inning single before drawing a bases-loaded walk in the seventh. He's now slashing .222/.342/.485 with seven homers, 14 RBI and two stolen bases through 31 appearances.

  • Twins' Edouard Julien: Belts two homers in win

Julien went 2-for-4 with two solo homers in Thursday's win over the White Sox. Julien has shown good power early in the season with seven home runs and a .513 SLG, with three of those long balls coming in his past four contests. He's hitting just .213 and has a 31.9 percent strikeout rate, which is a marginal increase on his strikeout rate from last season.

  • Twins' Edouard Julien: Belts fifth homer

Julien went 3-for-4 with a home run, a double, two runs scored and two RBI in Monday's win over the White Sox. Julien doubled in a run during the fourth inning before capping off the 7-0 victory with a solo shot in the seventh. He was stuck in a 3-for-24 skid over his previous seven games since his last long ball April 13. Julien continues to flash his power potential with five home runs and eight extra-base hits through 81 plate appearances. However, his inconsistency has led to a .211/.300/.465 slash line.

  • Twins' Edouard Julien: Starting again versus lefty

Julien will start at second base and bat ninth in Monday's game in Baltimore. Julien has now made two straight starts against left-handers and has been in the lineup for all but two games this season. It might not be the case if the Twins weren't missing Royce Lewis (quad) and/or Carlos Correa (intercostal), but for now Julien looks like an everyday player rather than a strong-side platoon option.
