Six of the runs came in the first inning, as Gordon served up a solo shot to Riley Greene and a three-run homer to Trey Sweeney before finally escaping the frame. Gordon hadn't pitched in the majors since Aug. 21, and despite all the injuries in the Colorado rotation, this performance doesn't seem likely to buy the right-hander another start. Gordon failed to make it through a disastrous first inning that included two errors by the Colorado defense. Gordon walked in a run before being relieved by Peter Lambert, who induced a groundout to limit the damage to four runs. The 26-year-old Gordon uncharacteristically struggled with control Wednesday, throwing only 24 of his 44 pitches for strikes, after he'd turned in a 23:3 K:BB in five previous starts this season. The right-hander will look to improve upon his 7.00 ERA and 1.48 WHIP in his next start, currently scheduled for next week against the Nationals.

It looked like the rookie right-hander was in for a long night after allowing a titanic 448-foot solo homer to Marcell Ozuna in the first inning. However, Gordon settled in nicely after that and collected a career-high seven punchouts in an 89-pitch performance. Overall, the 26-year-old has pitched to a 6.15 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and 23:3 K:BB across 26.1 innings this season. He lines up to make his next start against the Diamondbacks on the road next week.

Gordon allowed one run on one hit and one walk while striking out four over six innings in a no-decision versus the Padres on Saturday.
Gordon was perfect through four innings, but he put the first two batters aboard in the fifth, and a David Peralta groundout knocked in the tying run. Peter Lambert then allowed two runs in the seventh to spoil the Rockies' chances at a win. This was Gordon's best of four starts this season -- he had allowed at least four runs in each of the other three. He's now at a 6.75 ERA, 1.36 WHIP and 16:3 K:BB through 21.1 innings. This was likely enough to earn him another turn through the rotation, though that could change if German Marquez (elbow) doesn't require a rehab assignment.
Gordon will be called up from Triple-A Albuquerque to start Saturday's game in San Diego.

Gordon got off on the wrong foot, allowing back-to-back hits in both of the first two innings, leading to two early runs coming across for San Francisco. The right-hander would then cruise through the next two frames before once again surrendering back-to-back hits to open the fifth. The two teams combined for nine long balls on the night, the highest single-game total in the majors this season, and Gordon took the brunt of it. Harrison Bader in particular had the rookie right-hander's number, blasting a second-inning fastball over the fence in left-center field before ripping a hanging slider down the left-field line in the fourth. Gordon has served up six homers in 9.1 innings over his first two big-league starts, and with German Marquez (elbow) on the verge of coming off the IL, Gordon's likely headed back to Triple-A Albuquerque where he's been tagged for nine homers in 33.2 innings.

Gordon will be called up from Triple-A Albuquerque to start Sunday's game against the Royals at Coors Field, Luke Zahlmann of The Denver Gazette reports.
Ryan Feltner had previously been confirmed as the Rockies' starter for Sunday's series finale, but he'll end up getting pushed back to Monday in Cincinnati, where he's expected to have several family and friends on hand to watch him pitch. The change in the pitching schedule thus opens up a temporary spot in the rotation for Gordon, who will be making his MLB debut Sunday. The 26-year-old rigthy has made seven starts this season with Albuquerque, accruing a 5.35 ERA, 1.48 WHIP and 27:8 K:BB in 33.2 innings. His underwhelming numbers at the Triple-A level in addition to having to pitch in a hitter-friendly environment in Coors Field in his MLB debut makes Gordon an unappealing streaming option for Sunday.
