Mets' Drew Gilbert: Could miss all of Grapefruit League
Mets manager Carlos Mendoza said Monday that Gilbert (hamstring) may not appear in any Grapefruit League games, but the outfielder is expected to be ready to play when Triple-A Syracuse opens its season March 28, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.
Gilbert was limited to just 56 games at the Triple-A level in 2024, with a hamstring issue costing him nearly three months of action. Though Gilbert was active to finish the season, he acknowledged prior to the start of spring training that he hadn't yet made a full recovery from the hamstring injury, prompting the Mets to take a cautious approach with his usage during camp. Gilbert hasn't suffered any reported setbacks since reporting to spring training, so as long as he's able to get some at-bats in on the back fields of camp in the weeks to come, he should be ready to handle an everyday role in the Syracuse outfield once the season gets underway.

Mets' Drew Gilbert: Still dealing with hamstring issues
Gilbert is still not fully recovered from the hamstring injury that derailed his 2024 campaign, and the Mets are bringing him along slowly in camp as a result, Tim Britton of The Athletic reports. "It's just getting over the hump," Gilbert said this week. "It's nothing serious at this point. Sometimes injuries linger a little bit. Once we get across the finish line, we'll be in a good spot and unleash a little bit."
The 24-year-old outfielder played only 56 games for Triple-A Syracuse last season, slashing a meager .215/.313/.393, and while he was able to suit up for 21 games in the Arizona Fall League this winter, Gilbert's prospect status has tumbled due to the health concerns. He also worked on some swing changes this offseason, but his main goal is just to stay healthy. A strong start to the year at Syracuse could put him in line to make his big-league debut later in 2025, as the Mets' current center field options, Tyrone Taylor and Jose Siri, don't offer much offensive upside.

Mets' Drew Gilbert: Makes return from IL
Triple-A Syracuse reinstated Gilbert (hamstring) from its 7-day injured list Tuesday.
Before sitting out Wednesday's game, Gilbert returned to the Syracuse lineup in Tuesday's 7-6 extra-inning loss to Buffalo, starting in left field while going 1-for-5 at the plate. Gilbert was back in action with Syracuse for the first time since April 6 after missing more than three months while recovering from a left hamstring strain. He made six rehab appearances in the rookie-level Florida Complex League and with Single-A St. Lucie prior to being activated.

Mets' Drew Gilbert: Begins rehab assignment
Gilbert (hamstring) began a rehab assignment Thursday in the rookie-level Florida Complex League and went 0-for-2 with a walk while starting in center field.
The 23-year-old only played seven games with Triple-A Syracuse at the beginning of the season before suffering a fairly significant right hamstring strain. He looks to be on the comeback trail, but he may not report back to Syracuse until after the All-Star break.

Mets' Drew Gilbert: Out until second half of June
The Mets aren't expecting Gilbert (hamstring) to return from Triple-A Syracuse's 7-day injured list until the second half of June, Will Sammon of The Athletic reports.
Gilbert hasn't played for Syracuse since April 6 due to what's evidently a moderate or high-grade right hamstring strain. Before being shut down, the 23-year-old outfielder slashed .240/.321/.360 with two walks and 10 strikeouts in seven games for Syracuse.

Mets' Drew Gilbert: Still in strengthening phase
Gilbert remains without a clear timeline for his return from a hamstring strain, but the Mets are hoping he'll be back in the lineup for Triple-A Syracuse by late May or early June, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.
Senior vice president of player development Andy Green indicated Monday that Gilbert was still strengthening his hamstring, and a return date could come into focus once he begins a running progression. The 23-year-old outfielder hit .240 (6-for-25) through seven games with a home run and a 2:10 BB:K before suffering the injury.

Mets' Drew Gilbert: Managing hamstring strain
Gilbert was placed on the 7-day injured list with Triple-A Syracuse on Sunday due to a mild right hamstring strain, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.
The 23-year-old suffered the injury while running the bases Saturday and will be sidelined for at least the next week, though it's possible he faces a lengthier absence. Gilbert is one of the Mets' top prospects and could make his MLB debut at some point this season with a strong showing at Syracuse.

Mets' Drew Gilbert: Shifting to minor-league camp
The Mets reassigned Gilbert to minor-league spring training Sunday, Tim Britton of The Athletic reports.
Gilbert became one of the organization's top prospects after being acquired from the Astros in the Justin Verlander trade last year, and he went 1-for-9 in Grapefruit League play for the Mets this spring. The 23-year-old had a .984 OPS in 35 games at Double-A Binghamton following the trade, and he'll either return there or head to Triple-A Syracuse to begin the 2024 campaign.

Mets' Drew Gilbert: Will attend big-league camp
Gilbert received an invite to big-league spring training from the Mets, Abbey Mastracco of the New York Daily News reports.
Picked up from the Astros in last year's Justin Verlander deal, Gilbert is the top outfield prospect in the Mets' organization and slashed .325/.423/.561 in 149 plate appearances for Double-A Binghamton following the trade. The 23-year-old could open the season at Triple-A and make his major-league debut later in 2024, but he's a long shot to break camp with the big-league club after the Mets added Harrison Bader last month.

Mets' Drew Gilbert: Shipped to Mets in Verlander deal
Gilbert was traded from the Astros to the Mets on Tuesday along with at least one other prospect in exchange for Justin Verlander, Mark Feinsand of MLB.com reports.
Netting Gilbert in return for Verlander is a nice piece of business for the Mets, as the 22-year-old center fielder is the Astros' best prospect. He dominated at High-A earlier this season (192 wRC+), in part because he was old for the level and playing half his games in the hitter-friendly park in Asheville. Gilbert has been less prolific at Double-A Corpus Christi, slashing .241/.342/.371 with six home runs and six steals, although he has heated up of late, batting .293 with five home runs and a 17.1 percent strikeout rate over his last 99 at-bats. Down the road, Gilbert has a chance to be a leadoff or No. 2 hitter who contributes in all five standard rotisserie categories. He could reach the majors sometime next season.
