  • Julian Fernandez: Cut loose by Nationals

The Nationals released Fernandez (undisclosed) on Wednesday. Fernandez had been booted from the 40-man roster last week and has now been cut loose after clearing waivers. The righty had been on the 7-day injured list at Triple-A Rochester with an undisclosed injury, and it's unclear when he might be ready to pitch again.

  • Nationals' Julian Fernandez: Designated for assignment

The Nationals designated Fernandez (undisclosed) for assignment Friday. The right-hander has been on the 7-day injured list at Triple-A Rochester with an unspecified injury for nearly a month, and he's now lost his place on the 40-man roster. Fernandez made three appearances with Washington early this season and gave up one earned runs with a 3:2 K:BB across four innings.

  • Nationals' Julian Fernandez: Shelved at Triple-A

Triple-A Rochester placed Fernandez on its 7-day injured list May 14 due to an unspecified injury. The 31-year-old reliever made three appearances for the Nationals back in late April but has otherwise spent the entire season at Rochester, with whom he's turned in a 3.27 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and 10:5 K:BB in 11 innings across 13 appearances. Since he hasn't appeared in a game in over a month, Fernandez could require a rehab assignment in the lower minors before returning to the Triple-A bullpen.

  • Nationals' Julian Fernandez: Dispatched to Triple-A

The Nationals optioned Fernandez to Triple-A Rochester on Thursday. Fernandez appeared in three games after getting called up to Washington on Monday, allowing three earned runs on four hits and two walks while striking out three batters over four innings. The 30-year-old reliever will now head back to the minors, where he owns a 4.70 ERA through 7.2 frames this season.

  • Nationals' Julian Fernandez: Sent to Triple-A

The Nationals optioned Fernandez to Triple-A Rochester on Thursday. The right-hander closed last season in Washington's bullpen after being claimed off waivers from the Dodgers in August, making three appearances during the final week of the season. Fernandez was unable to secure a place on the Opening Day roster after he surrendered five runs with a 5:3 K:BB over five innings during spring training.

  • Nationals' Julian Fernandez: Scooped up by Washington

The Nationals claimed Fernandez off outright waivers from the Dodgers on Sunday and optioned him to Triple-A Rochester. Though Fernandez will report to the Triple-A level with his new organization, he may not have to wait long to earn a call-up to a Nationals bullpen that's lacking in impact arms. Before the Dodgers expunged him from their 40-man roster Friday, Fernandez had been enjoying a productive run at Triple-A Oklahoma City. He allowed just one earned run in 15.1 innings over his final 14 appearances for the affiliate and compiled a 22:5 K:BB during that stretch.

  • Dodgers' Julian Fernandez: DFA'd by Dodgers

The Dodgers designated Fernandez for assignment Friday. The Dodgers claimed Buddy Kennedy off waivers from Toronto on Friday to compensate for Max Muncy (oblique) moving to the injured list, so Fernandez will end up as the roster casualty necessary to clear space on the 40-man roster. The 29-year-old has surrendered just one run and struck out 17 batters in 12.2 innings since being sent down to Triple-A in early July, which may help his chances of being claimed by another team off waivers.

  • Dodgers' Julian Fernandez: Poised for promotion

The Dodgers will call up Fernandez from Triple-A Oklahoma City prior to Monday's game in Milwaukee, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports. Fernandez has collected a 4.08 ERA and 32:10 K:BB over 28.2 inning this season with Oklahoma City. The 29-year-old's only big-league experience came back in 2021, when he permitted eight runs over 6.2 frames in six appearances for the Rockies. Fernandez is not on the Dodgers' 40-man roster, which is currently full, so the club will need to free a spot.

  • Dodgers' Julian Fernandez: Sent to minor-league camp

Fernandez was reassigned to minor-league camp by the Dodgers on Sunday. Fernandez will head to minor-league camp after participating in spring training as a non-roster invitee, surrendering seven runs on four hits and three walks while striking out two batters over 2.1 innings in three appearances with the Dodgers. The right-hander hasn't pitched in the United States since 2023, and he'll look to stick around the Dodgers minor-league system to start 2025.

  • Dodgers' Julian Fernandez: Receives NRI pact with Dodgers

The Dodgers signed Fernandez to a minor-league contract Friday that includes an invitation to spring training, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports. Fernandez saw some brief action at the major-league level in 2021 but has toiled in the minors and Mexican League since then. The 29-year-old has been a hard thrower in the past and the Dodgers will see if they can harness that velocity.

  • Julian Fernandez: Released by Toronto

Fernandez was released by Toronto on Thursday. Fernandez appeared in seven games with Triple-A Buffalo and struggled to a 10.61 ERA with a 5:4 K:BB in 9.1 innings. The right-hander last appeared in the majors with the Rockies in 2021. Fernandez is now free to sign with any other club.

  • Blue Jays' Julian Fernandez: Joins Toronto on MiLB deal

Fernandez signed a minor-league contract with the Blue Jays on Thursday, Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet.ca reports. Fernandez spent the 2022 campaign at the Triple-A level with the Rockies and had a 6.63 ERA, 1.51 WHIP and 65:32 K:BB across 57 innings. The 27-year-old touches 100 mph with his fastball but has struggled with control throughout his minor-league career.

  • Rockies' Julian Fernandez: Clears waivers

Fernandez cleared waivers and was outrighted to Triple-A Albuquerque on Thursday. Fernandez was designated for assignment Saturday after spending the start of the year with Albuquerque, where he's struggled to a 9.47 ERA in 19 innings of relief. He'll remain at the same level going forward but will no longer be there as a member of the 40-man roster.

  • Rockies' Julian Fernandez: Designated for assignment

Fernandez was designated for assignment by the Rockies on Saturday. Fernandez spent a day on the big-league roster in late April but didn't get into a game. His only big-league experience came last season, when he allowed eight runs in 6.2 innings of relief while striking out four batters and walking four.

  • Rockies' Julian Fernandez: Headed to Triple-A

Fernandez was returned to Triple-A Albuquerque on Saturday. Fernandez served as Colorado's 29th man for its doubleheader against Detroit. He did not appear in either game, and he will now return to a relief role with Albuquerque. Across 6.2 innings this season, he has a 10.80 ERA and 4:4 K:BB.

  • Rockies' Julian Fernandez: Serving as 29th man

Fernandez will be the 29th man on the roster for the second game of Saturday's doubleheader with the Tigers. Fernandez will have a chance to pitch for the Rockies for the first time this season, and once the game concludes he will presumably rejoin Triple-A Albuquerque.

  • Rockies' Julian Fernandez: Returns to Rockies

Fernandez (elbow) was returned to the Rockies on Saturday. Fernandez was plucked by the Giants from the Rockies in the Rule 5 draft back in December of 2017. He suffered an elbow injury prior to the 2018 regular season and has spent the entire time since then recovering from Tommy John surgery, first with the Giants and then with the Marlins after being claimed off waivers in November of 2018. Since he didn't spend any time on a big-league roster within two years of being drafted, he's now back in Colorado per Rule 5 rules.

  • Marlins' Julian Fernandez: Tosses side session

Fernandez (elbow) threw a 20-pitch bullpen session in Florida on Monday, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports. Fernandez underwent Tommy John surgery in April in 2018 and took a big step forward Monday by making it through a brief side session. Although he likely has at least a few months left of rehab, this is a good sign for the right-hander, who figures to toss at least a few more bullpen sessions before advancing to facing live hitters.

  • Marlins' Julian Fernandez: Shifts to IL

The Marlins placed Fernandez (elbow) on the 60-day injured list Wednesday. A November waiver pickup, Fernandez was already expected to be sidelined for at least the first two months of the season while continuing to recover from April 2018 Tommy John surgery. The move to the 60-day IL confirms that Fernandez still has a ways to go in his rehab, which could extend through the All-Star break. Since the 23-year-old was previously a Rule 5 selection of the Giants last winter before sitting out 2018 following the elbow injury, he'll have to stick on Miami's active roster once activated from the IL or get offered back to the Rockies, the organization that originally signed him as an amateur free agent in 2012.

  • Marlins' Julian Fernandez: Scooped up by Miami

The Marlins claimed Fernandez (elbow) off waivers from the Giants on Monday. The Giants declined to add the 23-year-old back to their 40-man roster earlier this month while he continues to recover from Tommy John surgery, which prevented him from pitching at any level in 2018. Considering Fernandez underwent the elbow procedure last spring, he should be available to pitch again at some point in 2019, though he'll almost certainly be stashed on the Marlins' 10- or 60-day disabled list to begin the campaign. Because the Giants previously poached Fernandez from the Rockies in the Rule 5 draft last winter, the Marlins will have to keep the right-hander on the roster throughout the season or offer him back to Colorado. Fernandez didn't accrue any MLB service time while the Giants kept him on the DL all of last season.
