Reds' Juan Brito: In new organization
The Guardians traded Brito to the Reds on Monday in exchange for cash.
The Guardians designated Brito for assignment earlier in the day, but the Reds were willing to use a 40-man roster spot on Brito for the time being. More of a bat-first prospect than the typical Guardians middle infielder, Brito had been passed over in Cleveland, so a change of scenery is welcome. The 24-year-old switch hitter slashed .237/.351/.394 with nine home runs and seven steals in 83 games at Triple-A with the Guardians organization.

Guardians' Juan Brito: Removed from 40-man roster
The Guardians designated Brito for assignment Monday, Tim Stebbins of MLB.com reports.
A spot on the 40-man roster needed to be freed for the arrival of Jo Adell. Brito posted just a .505 OPS in 15 games for the Guardians earlier this season and has slashed just .237/.351/.394 with nine homers this year at Triple-A Columbus. However, Brito is only 24 and boasts a career .373 on-base percentage in the minors. There will likely be interest in the infielder on waivers.

The Guardians optioned Brito to Triple-A Columbus on Tuesday.
Brito didn't do much during his first stint in the majors, slashing .176/.250/.255 with a 30.4 percent strikeout rate. He's exiting the roster to clear space for the arrival of Travis Bazzana, who will take over as Cleveland's starting second baseman.

The Guardians plan to option Brito to Triple-A Columbus on Tuesday, Zack Meisel of The Athletic reports.
The Guardians plan to promote top prospect Travis Bazzana and are expected to clear a roster spot by optioning Brito, who had rocky first taste of MLB. After being called up to replace Gabriel Arias (hamstring) earlier in April, he slashed .176/.250/.255 over 15 games while committing some defensive miscues. Bazzana is expected to become the team's primary second baseman and could remain there when Arias is ready to return.

After making six consecutive starts following his call-up from Triple-A Columbus on April 7, Brito has now been included in the lineup in eight of the Guardians' ensuing 13 contests. Brito -- who has mustered a lowly .505 OPS over his first 56 plate appearances in the big leagues -- looks like he may have to settle for a part-time role in the middle infield even while the Guardians remain without Gabriel Arias (hamstring).

Guardians' Juan Brito: Misplay leads to runs
Brito started at second base and went 1-for-3 with a walk, a double and a run scored in Saturday's 5-3 loss to the Blue Jays.
Brito doubled and scored in the third inning and walked as part of a ninth-inning rally that fell short. In between, he misplayed a grounder that led to Toronto scoring three runs in the sixth inning, although the play was not ruled an error. Brito has been charged with three errors and has minus-1 Outs Above Average since being called up to the majors April 7, but he appears to have some runway with Gabriel Arias (hamstring) on the 10-day injured list and is working on his defense with an infield coach, per Tim Stebbins of MLB.com. Daniel Schneemann and Angel Martinez are also options to handle the keystone, but manager Stephen Vogt values Schneemann's versatility and likes Martinez more in the outfield.

Brito contributed a two-run double to the Guardians' four-run fourth inning. The hit snapped an 0-for-13 slide and his first extra-base hit and RBI since April 8. He's getting regular playing time while Gabriel Arias (hamstring) in on the injured list, but a slash line of .184/.244/263 leaves Brito vulnerable. He was in Worcester (Mass.) with Triple-A Columbus on Monday when the Guardians called him up to replace shortstop Gabriel Arias (hamstring), who was placed on the 10-day injured list. Brito hopped an early flight Tuesday morning to Cleveland and made his MLB debut in the afternoon. With Arias out of action, Brayan Rocchio moved from second base to short, which opened a position for the switch-hitting Brito, who could step into a platoon at the keystone.

Brito underwent hamstring surgery at the end of last season, so it's unclear whether he's entering camp at full strength. Brito came into spring training with a chance to win the Guardians' second-base job, but he spent all season in the minors and was limited to only 24 games at Triple-A Columbus due to thumb and now hamstring surgeries. It's been six weeks since Brito landed on the injured list, and the estimated recovery time for strains like his is between eight and 12 weeks.
