Player Outlook
Aidan Miller was seen as one of the best pure hitters from the prep class in 2023, and he has lived up to that billing, but the big development in 2025 is that he's now a major threat on the base paths. The righty-hitting shortstop was assigned to Double-A for his age-20/21 season and got off to a slow start, logging a .655 OPS over the first seven weeks. However, he heated up with the weather, slashing .284/.425/.484 with 10 homers, 43 steals (on 56 attempts), a 20.9 percent strikeout rate and a 17.6 percent walk rate over his final 77 games, including an eight-game run at Triple-A to close the campaign. Miller is just scratching the surface as a power hitter, and his 39.2 percent groundball rate and 50.5 percent pull rate suggest he'll get the most out of his raw power in games. He won't run as much as he did in the minors in 2025, but even if Miller cuts his stolen-base attempts in half, he could be a rare third baseman who regularly steals 20-plus bases. If the Phillies can trade Alec Bohm this offseason, Miller could make the Opening Day roster. He's a quality defensive shortstop, so Miller could play anywhere on the dirt where there is a need.

  • Phillies' Aidan Miller: Reassigned to minors camp

The Phillies reassigned Miller (back) to minor-league camp Thursday, Lochlahn March of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports. Miller has been held out of Grapefruit League play this spring due to a back issue, and it's unclear when he might be ready to play in a game. The top prospect has a good shot to debut at some point this season for the Phillies, but he'll need to get healthy first.

  • Phillies' Aidan Miller: No timeline to resume hitting

Phillies manager Rob Thomson said Wednesday that there's no timetable for when Miller (back) will resume swinging a bat, Lochlahn March of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports. Miller has been receiving treatment for lower-back soreness and is ramping up his activity level in the weight room. However, with no timeline for when he'll be allowed to hit again, it sounds like it could be a while before we see the top prospect in Grapefruit League action. Miller entered camp as a long shot to make the Phillies' Opening Day roster, and the back injury makes it close to a foregone conclusion that he's ticketed for Triple-A Lehigh Valley to begin the campaign.

  • Phillies' Aidan Miller: Dealing with back soreness

Miller is battling lower-back soreness and will be receiving treatment during the week, Scott Lauber of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports. It's not quite clear when this issue popped up for Miller, but the team is understandably proceeding with caution to ensure the injury doesn't get worse. The 21-year-old received an invitation to big-league camp and has an outside chance to make the Opening Day roster, but this injury won't help his chances. Miller can be considered day-to-day until the team has another update to share.

  • Phillies' Aidan Miller: Nets invite to spring training

The Phillies have extended Miller an invitation to big-league camp during spring training. It's the second straight year with a big-league camp invite for Miller, who slashed .264/.392/.433 with 14 home runs, 59 stolen bases and an 82:123 BB:K over 116 games between Double-A Reading and Triple-A Lehigh Valley in 2025. The 21-year-old has only played shortstop in pro ball and Trea Turner has that position locked down with the major-league club, so Miller is likely to return to Lehigh Valley to begin the 2026 season.

  • Phillies' Aidan Miller: Pulls out of Arizona Fall League

Phillies farm director Luke Murton said that Miller will no longer participate in the Arizona Fall League due to "some nagging things physically," Scott Lauber of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports. There doesn't seem to be any concern that whatever physical issues Miller is dealing with will linger, but the Phillies have decided it's best to give their top prospect some rest. Miller slashed .264/.392/.433 with 14 home runs and 59 stolen bases between Double-A Reading and Triple-A Lehigh Valley in 2025 and could be ready to make his major-league debut with Philadelphia next season.

  • Phillies' Aidan Miller: Climbs to Triple-A

The Phillies promoted Miller from Double-A Reading to Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Monday, Todd Zolecki of MLB.com reports. After earning a pair of promotions in 2024, Miller had up to this point spent the entire 2025 season at Reading, slashing .259/.382/.427 with 13 home runs, 52 stolen bases and a 14.9 percent walk rate over 489 plate appearances. Miller had opened September by going 8-for-19 with two extra-base hits, two stolen bases and a 9:4 K:BB in six games, with his hot start to the month convincing the Phillies that he was ready for a stiffer test. Though Miller is likely to remain at the Triple-A level for the rest of the season, a call-up to the big leagues can't be completely discounted if the hamstring strain that star shortstop Trea Turner suffered in Sunday's loss to the Marlins proves to be a long-term concern. For now, Edmundo Sosa would appear to be the top choice to step in as the Phillies' everyday shortstop if Turner is forced to go on the injured list.

  • Phillies' Aidan Miller: Cut from big-league camp

The Phillies reassigned Miller to minor-league camp Tuesday, Todd Zolecki of MLB.com reports. Miller was one of a handful of cuts the Phillies made as they trim down the number of bodies in big-league camp. The top prospect finished last season at Double-A Reading and is likely headed back there to start the 2025 campaign. Miller is tracking toward a potential debut in 2026.

  • Phillies' Aidan Miller: Bumped to Reading

Miller was promoted to Double-A Reading on Sunday, MLB Pipeline reports. Miller was promoted to High-A Jersey Shore on June 10, and he maintained a 117 wRC+ across 258 plate appearances at the level. A first-round pick in 2023, Miller continues to move quickly through the organization as he'll be only 20 years old when the 2025 season kicks off.

  • Phillies' Aidan Miller: Best hitter in Florida State League

Miller is slashing .337/.420/.570 with four home runs, nine steals and a 19 percent strikeout rate in 100 plate appearances for Single-A Clearwater. Seen as one of the top prep hitters in last year's draft, Miller played only 10 games at Single-A last year, and he has dominated in a return to the Florida State League. Only Nick Morabito, who is over a year older than Miller and has since been promoted to High-A, has a higher wRC+ among qualified FSL hitters, so Miller should be getting his own promotion to High-A in the coming weeks. While most evaluators expect Miller to end up at third base, he has played only shortstop and designated hitter thus far in pro ball.
