Player Outlook
A former shortstop, Tai Peete has emerged as a strong defensive center fielder in 2025, but his hit tool is still questionable. Peete flirted with a 20/20 season at High-A in his age-19 season (he turned 20 in August), finishing with a .217/.288/.404 slash line with 19 home runs and 25 steals in 125 games at High-A. While he was well below league average (79 wRC+), he has still shown reason to be patient in deeper dynasty leagues. His .282 BABIP was partially to blame for his mediocre slash line, and he encouragingly logged career-high flyball (39.5 percent) and pull (49.7 percent) rates while being the fifth-youngest qualified hitter at High-A. Peete will presumably head back to High-A in 2026 with a chance to spend most of the year at Double-A if he can trim last year's 30.6 percent strikeout rate.

  • Cardinals' Tai Peete: Traded to St. Louis

The Cardinals acquired Peete from the Mariners on Monday as part of a three-team trade involving the Rays, Adam Jude of The Seattle Times reports. Peete, Jurrangelo Cijntje and Colton Ledbetter will head to St. Louis while Ben Williamson is shipped off to Tampa Bay and the headliner of the trade, Brendan Donovan, goes to Seattle. Peete was selected by the Mariners with the 30th pick of the 2023 First-Year Player Draft and spent the entire 2025 season with High-A Everett, where he slashed .213/.285/.401 with 25 steals (in 36 attempts) and 19 home runs in 530 plate appearances. Peete, a former shortstop, is now a quality defensive center fielder with power and speed, and he won't turn 21 until August.

  • Mariners' Tai Peete: Flirting with 20/20 season

Peete is slashing .216/.284/.403 with 18 home runs and 25 steals in 121 games for High-A Everett. Peete, who is playing his first full season in center field, is flirting with a 20/20 season at High-A in his age-19 season (he turned 20 in August). While he has been well below league average (77 wRC+), he has still shown reason to be patient in deeper dynasty leagues. His .283 BABIP is partially to blame for his mediocre slash line, and he encouragingly logged career-high flyball (39.1 percent) and pull (50.2 percent) rates for the AquaSox. Peete will presumably head back to High-A in 2026 with a chance to spend most of the year at Double-A if he can trim this year's 30.9 percent strikeout rate.
