McGonigle provided Detroit's first run of the game in the fourth inning on a solo home run, which was his fourth of the season. The rookie infielder then played hero with a walkoff, two-RBI single in the bottom of the ninth to erase a 4-3 deficit. While the Tigers are scuffling at 27-39, McGonigle has been a bright spot with a .291/.394/.426 slash line through his first 63 games at the MLB level, and Sunday's walkoff was also his first in the majors.

Tigers manager A.J. Hinch said on MLB Network Radio that McGonigle will not be in the lineup for Tuesday's game versus the Rays, Jason Beck of MLB.com reports.
It's the first day off since May 4 for McGonigle, who is slashing only .238/.350/.295 since the beginning of May. The Rays are starting southpaw Steven Matz on Tuesday, and the left-handed-hitting McGonigle is sporting a .698 OPS versus lefties (as compared to an .838 OPS against righties).

While Detroit has been struggling recently, McGonigle remains a bright spot. The rookie infielder is now riding a five-game hitting streak and has at least one hit in nine of his last 10 contests. Overall, McGonigle is slashing a robust .291/.395/.427 across 53 games, and it looks like the Tigers have found a reliable leadoff hitter and offensive weapon for years to come.

McGonigle started the scoring with his third home run of the season to lead off the game. The 21-year-old rookie infielder has slowed down a bit with a .222/.349/.306 slash line across his last 10 contests, though his overall slash line of .285/.393/.419 still looks quite good across the board. McGonigle may continue to have some ups and downs as he adjusts to MLB pitching, but he seems to be locked in as Detroit's preferred leadoff option, giving him a fairly high fantasy floor.

While Detroit has been scuffling a bit at 19-24, McGonigle has been a bright spot for the Tigers all year long. The rookie is now batting .301 with an .853 OPS, and he's stolen a base in consecutive games to get to seven steals overall in as many attempts. McGonigle is making a strong push for AL Rookie of the Year honors, though Chicago's Munetaka Murakami is also very much in the mix.
McGonigle is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Red Sox.
The Tigers typically include the left-handed-hitting McGonigle in the lineup against southpaws, but he'll be given a day off for just the third time all season while lefty Payton Tolle toes the rubber for Boston. With McGonigle on the bench, the Tigers will go with Zack Short and Colt Keith as their starters on the left side of the infield.

McGonigle had only one stolen base across his first 25 games of the year, but he's swiped two bases in his last eight contests, and he's yet to be caught on a stolen base attempt.
