• Rockies' Kyle Karros: Favorite at third base

  Karros remains the favorite to make the Rockies' Opening Day roster as the starting third baseman, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports. Karros ascended through the minor-league ranks quickly following his selection by the Rockies in the fifth round of the 2023 MLB draft. He made his major-league debut in early August and spent the rest of the 2025 season with Colorado, finishing with a .226/.308/.277 slash line with one home run and nine RBI over 156 plate appearances. Karros hasn't displayed much power at the plate, but his defensive prowess should keep him in the lineup so long as he can make good contact and reduce his chase rate.

  Karros was promoted from Double-A Hartford to Triple-A Albuquerque on Friday, Patrick Lyons of JustBaseball.com reports. The 22-year-old was named MVP of the Northwest League in 2024 after posting an .875 OPS with 15 homers and 12 steals in 123 games for Hartford, and he'll now make his way to the highest level of the minors. One of Colorado's top prospects, Karros has an .861 OPS at Double-A this year and has an outside shot of making his MLB debut before the end of 2025, assuming he continues to hit well at Triple-A.

Thirteen-year big-leaguer Eric Karros has two sons who are legitimate prospects in Kyle and Dodgers pitching prospect Jared Karros. Kyle, a third baseman dating back to his freshman year at UCLA, did a little bit of everything this year while taking advantage of the hitter-friendly environment at Spokane. Karros, a fifth-round pick in 2023 who commanded a $433,500 bonus, has the glove to be a big-league third baseman but it will be an uphill battle for him to prove he can do enough damage offensively to profile at the hot corner.
